  1. Nullbound the lip I can't roll with the side skirts and rear skirt on it but thanks for the suggestion.
  2. Thanks Jon there are so many searches but this one has good info.
  3. I don't know I'm not at my car right now it is in the shop but today I ordered some new control arm bushings and some new link kits. So I will see if that does the trick.
  4. Sorry 1978 280z 15 Inch Weld Whells 235/60/15
  5. It seems my rearend is shifting forward is this caused by bad bushings in the control arms? My tires are way too close to my fender and scrubbing the lip of the fender not so bad before but I just had the springs and struts changed (Illuminas and lowering springs) and now they are catching the lip. Oh and the driver side is worse than the pass side. Help
  6. UPDATE: I have since got all of the wiring done and everything seems to be working fine except the speedo and tach. Trans went out the friday before the reynolds meet and is now in the shop. Again a BIG Thanks goes out to all who posted helpful tips in this post. Thanks again guy's.
  7. Transmisson went kaapoww. What kind of parts do you guy's use in the 700r4 I had mind built about a month ago with corvette parts but it could not hold up to the torque I have and he said he would build me another but this one was mine. He suggest putting a t350 but then I would not have overdrive. Any ideas???
  8. UPDATE--- Put the spacers under the crossmember (don't know if that is going to cause bumpsteer or not) the jtr book say's these provide clearance between the steering rack and the harmonic balancer not true on the 78 where the steering rack is mounted to the cross member it drops the whole thing. Then made some spacers to go under the motor mounts to lift the engine back up. Put the harmonic balancer on that come with the kit and fired it up NO VIBRATION man does that make me happy just drop the radiator a little to keep it from hitting the hood and adjusting the trans cable and that should be it for the moment at least I will be able to drive it.
  9. My car is not lowered yet so bumpsteer is not an issue. I am going to use spacers under the frame rails where the cross member mounts to the frame and add some spacers to the motor mounts to raise the motor back up I then should have enough space between my rack and balancer that I can use the one that come with the kit. Will update soon....
  10. What if I use the spacers under the frame rails and put some spacers under the motor mount brackets will that work.
  11. In progress of doing that right now should know tomorrow thanks for the sugestion will update as I know something. I have the spacers that are in the jtr book for putting under the front cross member and the body rails but on the 78 280z the rack is bolted to the top of the cross member along with the motor mounts so I don't see how it will lower the rack without lowering the engine too.
  12. Still haven't found what I am looking for so I will try to modify the stock one.
  13. RPMS--- I don't see where you will have the same problem I am having if it is just a stock 350 call jegs and let them know what you have and what you bought and they should be able to help you.
  14. Ok called the machine shop and he said they could not balance one to the other so I will try to install the one that come with the kit. I will have to lower my rack but I was looking at that and it looks like it will drop the rack and mounts together because the rack is mounted to the cross member I have the spacers that go under the frame as per jtr but just don't see how they will work yet.
  15. Thanks for you advice grumpyvette and others I will take them both to the machine shop monday.
  16. Ok here is what I got. A complete 383 stroker kit balanced. pistons, rods, crank, fly wheel, harmonic balancer all balanced as a kit. I changed the balancer so it would not hit my steering rack. I bought a street dampner for a 400 externally balanced. Should I have tried to make the other balancer work by using a spacer like in the jtr book?
  17. We'll I Put the exhaust on the car and started it up again and notice a vibration in the engine. Idle is good but when I give it some gas I feel it. Kinda fells like the harmonic dampner or in the fly wheel. The kit I used came balanced (a 383 stroker kit) but I changed the balancer to a street dampner for clearance. I did use a external balance dampner. Any suggestions.
  18. Thanks Mike kZ I will try them
  19. We'll I did a search but really did not come with much so I will ask. I need to find a bracket for the ac that I can bolt up to a sbc I have a r4 pancake compressor and need a bracket. The one I have is a stock bracket but will not fit over the s&s headers because it is for regular manifold exhaust. I would perfer a bracket that bolts up to the stock position or one that bolts up in a low mount position on the drivers side and ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
  20. I hope to be a both meets I live closer to reynolds than atlanta so we will see. My exhaust will be in tomorrow and hopefully this weekend I will be stang hunting .
  21. yes davyz the first engine I ever built I'm running a lunati cam , stealth intake, trick flow heads, holley 750 carb, aluminum water pump, 4 bolt main 350 block with a stroker kit, keith black pistons, black magic fan, 4 row radiator and the list goes on. I have been getting together parts for this car since 2001 and finally have seen my patience paying off. Thanks again to this forum and the knowledge of it's members.
  22. We'll today was the day. Finished putting in the electric fan, adjusted the valves and put the water in the rad. Put a 5 gallon jug of cam 2 in it turned the key and let the fuel find it's way to the carb turned the key and....... varoom yea baby. It fired up the first time. I got so excited I thought I was going to pee all over myself....But I refrained myself.....man that engine sounded strong.. 383 chevy ...with 700r4 trans.. After a small encounter with my wiring not being right on the alternator everything is in working order. Monday I will take it to the muffler shop and see what kind of exhaust I want to put on it ..Kinda leaning toward side pipes like the older corvette's had.. depends on the price will update after the exhaust is on.. Thank's to all the guy's on this site for there expertise over the years I have been reading and putting together parts for this swap. Could not have done it without the info you have elected to share.. Thanks again, Charles

    POR 20

Has anyone ever used POR 20 on headers it's either that or send them to jet hot to be coated. I have used POR 15 with good results but am unsure on POR 20.
  24. I would like to know too. I have the s&s long tube headers but there is not much room on the pass side and am running trick flow heads with angle plugs.
  25. Thanks guy's for the info the motor is now sitting in the car I have a digital camera with pictures but don't know how to put one on the hybridz site. I put the motor and trans in the car as one but will have to take the trans back out to pound a little on the pass side to allow for the servo on the 700r4 also to take the s&s headers back off so I can send them to be coated at jet hot. I too have the black magic fan and am going to run adjustable serpentine belts if I can find any out in the junk yards and info would be greatly appreciated and if you have anything you can email me about please do. chasbarker@juno.com
