I believe Linde pioneered TIG welding and plasma cutting, and also trademarked Heliarc. They were the Ingersoll Rand of welding equipment. Esab bought them out some time ago. Getting parts would be my only concern.

Exactly what johnc said. Cuts are fast, but almost always requires dressing/grinding for welding and fitment. I have a Thermal Dynamics cutmaster 38 and like the 120/240V auto sensing feature. It will cut 3/8 decently. I wish the head was a little smaller. I'd gladly trade the newfangled ergonomic gun handle for the old Linde small head type, much easier to see your work.
Somebody needs to invent a backyard waterjet. That would be awesome!

Jody, You broke a part and posted pics and your experience... You didn't trash Ross, or his product. In my mind you owe nobody an apology.

I totally agree, and I for one appreciate news hitting the board first, in it's un-edited purity. Obviously such happenings would be better for business taken off line, but I don't think that's in the spirit of the board (I could be wrong). Being an enthusiast, while I do care if it's the best product out there, I care even more if there's been a documented breakage. We all like making informed decisions, isn't that what sites like this are all about?
Hopefully others won't feel as if they shouldn't speak up about product limitations...

Maybe someone sat on it. I went throught exactly the same thing, and it was no fun getting it straight on a black car.
You should try and get the roof metal from "oil canning" as much as possible before you re-apply bondo. A friend recommended fiberglassing some balsa wood strips to the underside of the roof to stiffen it. Fortunately, I got it pretty tight with hammer and dolly. Took some time chasing the soft spot around and around.... but I got it tight eventually.
Bondo was no picnic. I got one of these http://www.nationaldetroit.com/tools/tooldetail.aspx?model=900 which helped out immensly. You'll learn a lot doing such a big panel. Good luck!

Here's an idea I haven't tried. Lay a nut on the end and plug weld (MIG) it to the broken stud/easy out through the nut hole. Even if the stud is deeper than the surface by a few thread it "should" still work. Worth a try I think.

Whatever tire you buy DO NOT buy Goodyear. I have alwyas had bad luck with Goodyears. Feathering, noisy, and vague. I have had three sets on two different cars before I vowed never again. I had the Eagles and the Eagle F1's.
Which exact tires did you have, because I want to get these:

I've always respected Car and Driver for their test, but if you have first hand experience I would reconsider.

My car came in 1 day late. Not a big deal and maybe typical. Driver ran into weather too.
OK Auto Carrier, Inc. was my subcontractor, based out of Federal Way WA. I picked it up at their terminal which resembled a wrecking yard rather than a holding facility for cars. The big issue to consider is that they won't cover ANY damage to the underside of the car which I think is BS. There were a couple cracked plastic clips on the bottom of my car, but frankly I can't say with absolute certainty that they did it. I think they did...
I can't say I'd use them again if I had to do it all over. But they were really fast compared to everyone else (5 days vs. 20), and the price was right. If you get it enclosed, that's probably best since the ramps look a lot less steep than the open transporter, but I really don't know. Most of the other shippers have multiple terminal transfer points, and that is were all the damage occurs in loading and unloading.
They're close to you. If I were you, I'd check out their operation in person and get a better feel for their operation and look at their contract. The place looks scuzzy... but they are legit. You could probably get a cheaper price than me since you might be able to cut out the middle man.
I have no affiliation or connection with them, other than I was a previous customer.
