hood vents: ideas...
JIM73240Z replied to OlderThanMe's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
i would do a hood scoop like that if i was running a v8, no question about it. with the l6, there is no room for a feature like that. that is why we are looking at other vent areas. as far as the wing goes, the safest spot in my garage right now is on my car. it is just sitting there not bolted on so. i have not even bolted it to the fg hatch yet to even start to adjust the wing to close to level. it is on my long list of things to do. there's a ton of things on that list. jimbo -
hood vents: ideas...
JIM73240Z replied to OlderThanMe's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
dragging this thread from it slumber. i have taped on my hood and fenders several areas to make vents. the hood is a fg hood from 280zone. nice by the way. i plan on cutting 1/2" wide vents to get air out of the engine. also the hood has the snorkel that i think is more geared for the v8 guys but i am thinking that a hole in the front that goes straight out the back might draw out more air. kind of a flow through. the vents in the fenders aould look similar to these only i will cut out each one instead of the panel http://www.raceace.com/products.html or these http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/product/765/Carbon_Fiber_Ducting_And_Sheets here is a pic of my hood any comments? let the bashing begin. ready, set, go jimbo -

with the weight of the car on the wheels, sthe tires were rubbing against the fenders. i had to cut out the few places out so that it will roll. got the car outside for some fresh air. vac and sweep under the car to get all of the metal shavings and grinder disk dust out of the garage. i was going to get the front air dam installed before the flairs went on but i looked at mikellys closely and saw that his air dam is over the flairs. so on with the show i guess. i still need to add about 100#'s in the back to simulate the fuel and diff. 300#'s in the cabis to simulate me and the trans and other crap. i need about 100#'s more in the front to simulate the engine and other crap in the engine compartment. that should get me close to total car weight. not exact but pretty close. set the ride height and marks where the flairs go. here is where i think i am going to put in the fender vents and the hood vents. for the fender vents i will cut along the bold lines and bend up to let the air out. on the hood, i will cut out the solid shaded areas and cover the bottom with a wire mesh to keep some of the crap out. also the scoop portion of the hood will be opened up to try to create a low pressure zone in the hood to evac more air out the back of the cowl. my thoughts anyway. always more work to be done. untill next time, if there is a next time. same bat time, same bat channel. jimbo -
ok. that makes sence. thanks jimbo

that 2 part epoxy need to be warm to mix. there is similar stuff for construction that is impossible to squeeze when it is below 40 degrees. since you probably did that at 5:30 in the morning it is going no where. you could take it inside the house and let it warm up. start mixing it and then go out to the garage to lay the bead when you are ready for it. that would be a better way. btw, how did you do at the autox at firebird? jimbo

more work is done. the car is off of jack stands for a little while. need to set the ride height. will be at 7" from bottom of rockers to ground. i also weighed the stock hatch and hood. the hatch with glass is 36# and the hood is 34#. the beta fg rear hatch WITHOUT lexan is 9#. i figure a couple of #'s for the lexan. total of maybey 13#'s. the fg hood from 280zone is right at 20#. starting to fab the passenger seat mounts. will have that in this afternoon. finish the wing mounts and start on some body work. i have most of the holes patched up. just a few more to go. still need to mount the zg flairs. good fun to be had by all. -

i have glass beads in my cabinet. works good for rust removal. leaves a smooth finish jimbo

saw them last week in the box. nice. saves about 5# vs stock. instead of poly bushings for the piviot location, the bushings will hold a rod for spherical busings so no more stiction (sp). these are one of about 6 pair that were made for final mods and adjustments. they look sweeeet. more stuff coming from azcar in the billet bling dept. jimbo

Cyclists, casual bike riders, Seat/Saddle recommendations?
JIM73240Z replied to Sparky's topic in Non Tech Board
anything with titanium rails will be comfy. and may not be too expensive. when i was racing bicycles for a living, i would ride whatever someone gave me, bike or parts. shoes, helmet, and saddle were not a part of my sponsorship hunt because it took forever to find ones that fit me and i did not want to go back. the last year, northwave gave us shoes. could not get a pair that fit me. bell gave us helmets, same thing. some one else gave us saddles, same. i tried but the saddles gave me saddle sores somethin fierce. (if you dont know, its a boil on your ass from chaffing or presseure points. i had one during super week in wisconsin one year so bad that i cut a hole in the seat so that i did not put direct pressure on the sore. fuuuunnnnn). try out as many as you can. if they are not very comy right away, chances are they wont be comfy many mile from now. and exerciser bike seats are not comfy either. some of the best comfort saddles were the narrowest. like the flite carbon seats. try as many outas you can. jimbo -

well the xmas break allowed me to get some work done. got quite a bit of the clean up welding finished. still have to shave all of the side markers and a few holes in the firewall. here are the updates got the beta fg hatch pinned on, the bottom anyway. got to fab mounts for the top pins. got the seat rails fabed and the drivers seat installed for cage install. my fat ass in the seat with a sH!t eatin grin. im so happy, it is starting to look like a car again. all of the suspension is in. steering rack and steering whell is in. i tell you that az z car stuff is awsome. falls together. love it. i cant wait for the new stuff that dave is working on to come out. seen quite a bit of it and it is tasty. think more billit parts:mrgreen: fuel cell dropped in brackets that i made. still need to make the top straps but the cell is in the car and out of my way. still no cage yet. something always come up. as soon as i can though, its going in. next big part while the car is still here is the flairs. i recived the nutserts. i just need to get the car off of the jacks and load up the car with a bunch of bags of sand / concrete to load it and mark where i want the flairs. as soon as i get the cage in and cleaned up. i will prime and paint the interior, engine bay, and under car. then run the ezwire harness and start plumbing. need to order a huge fuel pump but money is tight frome the holidays. had to spend the new years at the un-happiest place on earth, dismay land. kids loved it, i hated it. to many people. took over a half hour to get from its a small world to main street at 11:30 at night. get back to work untill next time. jimbo -

jegs has "a kit" for the datsun that is nhra legal. heavier tubing. but since you have the 2+2, a standard kit will not work without mods. its not like you are afraid of doing any mods. jimbo -
it looks like i will be getting a 20' steel bed with dovetail. i will make longer ramps for it. at 3g its not to bad and no one here has aluminum trailers. everyone says ther is too many warranty problems with them. will look at some more this morning. jimbo

well, she handed me the add to a place that sells them and we are going to look around tomorrow. just looking for things to look for and to avoid. is it better to get the wood planks or a metal decking. i want to get storage compartments. definitly a low trailer. saw some that were tilting. maybe. i dunno. jimbo

for x-mas, the wife got me a car trailer to haul the track car around on. for all of you guys that have hauled these things areound, what should i look for. first off, i highly doubt that i will ever get to the point that i will be traveling multi days to an event. i wouls say that an enclosed trailer is out. i know the z will fit on a 16' but i was going to get the 20' for the extra room and spare tires. any thing i should look for would be greatly appreciated. jimbo

here is another place for injectors. i got the 77# ones for mine. i think i heard some one say that at idle the injectors squirt so much gas that it runs rough. i thought that mega can open an injector for a short period of time but it is more than the engine needs until you get going. i dunno. http://www.racetronix.com/ jimbo

you used 3/8" for both to and from? i was thinking 1/2" from tank and a 3/8" return, although i am still using the l6 but turboed to 600hp (hopefully). your going v8 so i would think that the fuel demand would be roughly the same. jimbo
