  1. I don't know how original or new this is but I do know that it is inexpensive and easy to do.

I spent this past weekend getting my RB25 to fit into my '73 240Z. I should be a little more specific. My RB25DET is out of the R34 Skyline chassis, 1998-2001 is my best guess, it has the coil packs on top of the spark plugs instead of in the rear if the engine. My motor came with the original Skyline mounts which are round and have two bolts to connect to the crossmember. The car is a 1973 240Z, I have the transmission mount with bushings and horizontal bolts that bolt it in place.

That being said, I lowered the angle of the original 240Z mounts on the crossmember by taking a little over 1 inch off of the outter edge of both mounts. The black mark in the pictures shows where I cut the mounts. This allowed for an angle that matches the angle of the actual motor mounts. I tack welded a new piece of steel on the mounts and drilled bolt holes for the motor mounts.

The transmission was just as easy. I had to cut off half, the front half, of the bracket on the inside of the transmission hump to clear the RB transmission. I them made two new brackets and cut a slot in the side of the transmission hump to allow me to place the new brackets 2.5 inches behind the original crossmember mount. I wedled the brackets in place and bolted the original transmission crossmember in place using the original bolts and original transmission mount.

The whole job took just over 1 day and cost me less then $20 to complete.

  2. I just bought my RB25 about a month ago from a guy in Miami. I paid $1600 with tranny and turbo. The wire harness was cut but I have a guy making a new one and I am planning on running the AEM computer instead of the stock ECU. His phone number is 786-286-5302. I know he also had an RB26DETT at the time. I picked mine up so I don't know how much to ship, but Miami is always a fun place to visit more a few days.

  3. Just a quick note for anyone looking for a new differential for their Z. I recently purchased a VLSD R200 on ebay. It included the original driveshafts and I got it at a really good price. It had to be shipped by truck but was still a lot cheaper than some of the ones I've seen elsewhere. My came from a 300ZX but they often sell then from skylines and other nissans as well. The seller is jhot-imports and they have a skyline diff. listed as of today.

    Hope this helps someone out.

  4. I am also new to this site. I have done engine swaps in the past and I use this site mainly for ideas and to get examples of what has been done with a Z. I use the search feature for almost everything that I need to see. The problem that I keep encountering is that upwards of 75% of the posts that I locate contain dead links in them. It doesn't do any good to just tell someone to search the archieves if what you need doesn't exist anymore.

If you feel that people are taking up bandwidth by asking stupid questions then really take a look at what is posted everyday on here. Topics range from religion to Tour de France to everything for sale on ebay and sometimes direct threads dealing with the Z.

I think that sometimes we all seem to forget that we weren't born knowing everything, almost all of us had someone, at sometime, work with and mentor us along the way.

    Just one guy's opinion.

Oh by the way- whoever didn't know what autometer was the other day needs to be banned.

  5. I have been searching the threads and can't seem to find the answer to my problems. I know that this thread has probaly been beaten to death but I'm new here and my project is just getting started.

I am putting an RB25DET into my '73 240z. I know that a few of you have done this swap along with other large horsepower conversions (i.e.- V8, RB26DETT, SR20, etc...). I am shooting for somewhere in the 600HP range. I am wondering what differential seem to work the best?

The information that I seem to be reading is to use an R200 LSD. What are the major differences between the R200's. Can any R200 be used (with slight modification of course)? Is a VLSD out of a newer Nissan (300ZX, Skyline) the way to go? Should I be looking for an R200 from a late model 280Z? Is the biggest problem the driveaxles?

Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.
