  1. ^^ That was more where my question was geared toward. What type of suspension, brakes, etc are you guys who are running road coarses and VARA, etc running on your cars? I want something that will be powerful, light and fast but be able to corner, handle and stop well also. I don't know a lot about the suspension and brake aspect of the Z car, so I would like some help in that regard.
  2. The parts listed are parts that I actually have, save for the LD28 crank and the camshaft. All of the other parts I have.
  3. I recently acquired an early '71 Series I 240Z. It was supposed to be a parts car but I am seriously considering turning it into a street/ road coarse beast as I have most of the parts from my other projects and parts cars to build a complete car. So here is what I have come up with so far. Any additions, suggestions or input is welcome. Early 1971 Series I 240Z, Color code 112 (LIME GREEN?) Engine- 1983 L28 F54 block. Ported and polished P90 head with competition valve job. Competition-prepped LD28 crankshaft. Competition 9mm connecting rods. Forged pistons with 10.5:1 CR (any suggestions?). Competition cam (Suggestions?). Triple Mikuni Phh44 carbs on a Datsun Competition intake (possibly a Kimeari intake?). Either Datsun Competition Overdrive 5-speed or '83 Datsun 5-speed. R200 CLSD. I know there will be a lot more to this list but this is just what I am kicking around in my head.
  4. @ Bernardd, The Auto console, linkages, shifter, etc are in near perfect shape (For a 40 year old vehicle). The car was driven into the garage under its own power, and we have not currently removed anything related to the tranny yet, we have only removed the engine. I will talk to Steve later this evening and see what he says about the parts, and I will get back to you tomorrow.
  5. @ Bernardd- I am sure he would be more than willing to see some parts go to another Z owner rather than throwing them out. Heck he still has the original intake and SU carbs from my 1970 Z as well as a 1975 L28 that was given to me. And he has a 1983 L28 Turbo motor He bought before he ever even owned a Z. What parts are you interested in?
  6. Got a friend with a 1971 240Z that has an auto tranny. He is wanting to upgrade to an triple Mikuni carbed L28 and a 5 speed manual. How involved is the process of swapping from the auto to the manual? He also has another 1971 240Z that is a parts car and a 1983 280ZX as a parts car as well. I am sure there are some HybridZ owners on here who have made this swap, if so please chime in on this please. The swap should be relatively easy and straightforward right? What all parts are needed? Thanks for the help guys and gals.
  7. No I don't but I have a good friend who does. Don't know if that will help tho....
  8. I have been looking for Datsun Z432 emblems for a while. Does anyone know where they can be bought? I have searched google, yahoo, and ebay and the only thing I found was a single 432 emblem on ebay for $100. Any help here?
  9. I am looking for a 1970-1971 240Z, an early model. The car does not have to be perfect, but I would like to find one that is currently drivable or one that would be drivable with a little work. I would also like to find one that is retains the original engine and transmission, but that is not really that important. I would like to stay around $1500-$2500, but I will pay as much as $5000 for the right car. I also have a restorable (it needs a complete resto, but is all there) 1967 Datsun 1600, has a spare 2000 block and transmission, that I would also be willing to use as a partial trade. Please send any info to musicman541@yahoo.com
  10. The only reason that i was considering staying with the 2.4 as opposed to the 2.8 is simply a matter of originality. The car has the original engine and transmission in it and I was concerned about that. However, I think that now i have decided to build an L28 and store the original engine and transmission away somewhere for a future "stock" rebuild. lastly, I see where it was said that the cost of machining between an L24 and an L28 is about the same. Would this hold true if I were building a stroker?
  11. I'm not so concerned about what gas as it will be ran mostly on C16 anyway.
  12. Ok, I have a 1970 240 that is ready to put an engine into and drive. The body has been stripped, media-blasted and primer baked before being painted. Transmission is a Nissan Competition FS5C71B Close-ratio overdrive, rear diff is an R200 with a 4.38:1 LSD. It has custom suspension and Wilwood brakes. This car will be street driven occasionally and taen to track days regularly. I have two different engine options I can go with...but which one? OPTION 1- Rebuild original L24 (E31 block) with Micropolished Crankshaft, Competition prepared rods, forged piston (not sure on brand or C/R yet), Slover- modified E31 head with 44mm intake and 38mm stainless competition valves, Isky Cam with .530" lift 264 degrees duration at .050, triple Mikuni Phh44's on a Datsun Competition manifold. OPTION 2- L28 built with F54 block, Micropolished and Knife-edged LD28 crankshaft, Forged 12:1 Venolia pistons, Slover-modified E-31 head with 44mm intake and 38mm exhaust valves, Isky cam with .595" lift 294 degrees duration at .050, Triple 44mm Mikuni's on Datsun competition manifold. I am sure I am forgetting A LOT but this is what I can think of right now.
  13. I am building a race car that will be as close as possible to a 1970 SCCA C-Production race car, but I will be adding some modern parts in certain areas. What are my options as far as suspension setups that are available for early Z cars? Also, I have looked at several brake options, like the Wilwood products offered from ArizonaZcar. What are some brake options?
  14. I am looking for an early 240Z (1970-1971). I have a 1967 Datsun 1600 roadster, 4-speed with 4-cyl. It is in need of complete restoration, but mostly all there. Late 1966 build date. I would like to either trade the car for an early 240, or sell the roadster and buy an early 240. Also, if anyone has an early 240Z that is rebuildable for $1500 or less, even just a body shell, please let me know.
