  1. I guess that's what I'll probably do. Pull the motor/trans/rad/not rusted body parts, and some interior pieces, and junk the shell. I live in PA though, its tough to come by a good Z that doesn't cost 2 arms and a leg, for example: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/1730127832.html http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/1722815706.html
  2. this is a very old post, but the sad news is that I really didn't have time to do much on this car, and I should probably sell it instead of just sitting there. Would it be worth anything? I'll ID the carb and the trans this weekend, but the engine is (most likely) a '69 327 with a 75cc head from either a 350 vette, LT1, or Z/28.
  3. I'd like to do a lot of rust repair on my super-rusty 280z and while I have a lot of necesarry tools (tig, mig, plasma cutter, grinders, etc, etc) I don't have a garage, and I don't think I should tackle this stuff without one (specially things that affect integrity of the body). For people who work on cars, but for one reason or another do not have a garage, and have something that can't be done outside... what do you do?
  4. Some pic notes: The really rusty floor/framerail is passenger size. The better framerail, decent floor, rust above frame rail / sub frame is on that size, I'm not quiet sure how to repair it. The mounting "kit" is custom it seems (since other kits use front crossmember to mount the engine) - any ideas if that's a good or bad design Trunk seems clean, and I assume the rear part (that's banged in) is spot welded? The center console area is rusty too... The engine doesn't have much clearance at the top, I want to put some kind of an air cleaner there, but don't know if anything will fit. Lastly, I havn't decide where i'm cutting into yet, but I'm definately getting the bad dog framerails, and I might just use sheet metal and try to repair the floor myself instead of buying premade floor pans... and POR 15 everything.
  5. I've made an impulse buy, and purchased a '77 280z, AZ car until 87 or so, and then slowly a rust bucket up in PA. It has a Chevy V8 (327 or 350), a TH350 (hopefully), and some weird custom made conversion kit. The exterior is shitty (repairable), and there's also rust on various other parts of the unibody. Comments on how to repair (other then replacing floors/framerails) are welcome. Here's the album
  6. i probably won't be buying it actually. It's beginning of the winter, and I don't have a garage plus i'm 1/2 way into another project and i probably won't have enough money to put into the car right now. BUT if anybody around philly (it's NE philly suburbs actually) wants to see it, send me an email (kirill AT mokin DOT com)
  7. is there a diagram of the proper jack points for the z?
  8. looked at the car interior: seats are crap, dash is cracked in 3 places uptop, rest seems OK. exterior: decent paint (probably repainted), 3 or 4 places where the paint chipped and rust underneath (body). The door bottoms are bubbly. Bubbly paint around weatherstrippings too. under: frame rails "Seem" solid, a rust hole above the rail close to the front driver wheel well/fender, some rust in the back around the wheel wells. That's I think the worst of rust. maybe i'll go tomorrow put it on a jack see underneath better, try starting it (he says fuel rails are leaking around the injector connectors, that's about it) and take some pics maybe?
  9. I'm going to go see a '77 280z on saturday, that's going to be the first datsun i'm going to look at (close to my house). Havn't driven one before, or sat in one. See one from afar though. hehe. Guy said car doesn't run because of battery, and it was dumping a lot of fuel before he stopped using it. Engine condition doesn't really concern me but I guess it wouldn't be bad if it ran for a bit. Where should I check for rust? What else should I look out for?
  10. p.s. does anybody know of any 240z around philly in good condition (repainted, no/little rust) for under ~5k.
  11. my ins. is statefarm, i am 20 years old, AND i live very close to the 2/3 most dangerous intersections in the country (Philadelphia, PA) so my insurance is natively high... but still $172/mo is equal to what i pay for my other car, and that would be w/ barely any miles and as a pleasure only car. the agent tried lowering car value to nothing, but it had no effect.
  12. I have a question: what's the best way to make your z (say 72 240z) street legal? I called my insurance company, and their quote for only moderate liability (25/50/25) was $172/mo. Seems a little high to me.
  13. i'm not familiar with custom body work (outside of bondo, ha), how do you go about making custom stuff like that?
  14. dan - that's a hot looking car. rear fenders arn't stock, right?
  15. lol, i ment out of the older classic Zs i'm not very familiar with the cars... any good sites to read about the cars, the year differences, stuff like that? Also, where's a good place to find a 240z besides ebay and classified on this site? what's the best 240z year?
