  1. Great work. Very inventive. I wonder where you get all these different parts from cars? Do you have a wrecking yard?
  2. I am speculating about a BMW motor in a Z as well. In canada however the 1997 740iL I am looking at had an automatic transmission. I do like the idea of 280 german Hp in an s30. But it is doubtful that I can find a manual transmission on this side of the pond. Have you considered the problems that the anti-theft may give? How would you solve that issue? I heard that some motors will not allow you to start them without some code or magic words and incantations. Is that a difficult issue to overcome?
  3. I worked up there all winter but I am living in my own house for this job. 12 minute commute versus 1.5 hours on a bus at 5 AM...
  4. Sorry I have been away, I just started a new job and have been dragging my ass home. I work in the oil patch. I actually am building blowout preventers. Oddly, there has been a lot of attention paid to getting them checked and recertified lately. I do like the German motor. Mostly it's feel, partly familiarity, partly relative abundance. They seem to be easier to find than the RB25 or JZ... at least for non-m-powered motors. Found a 1997 328 with a totalled front end for $1500.00 this week. About 140,000 Km on it. Looks like I am finding the engine before I find the car.
  5. Well buddy finally wrote me back. His 'M-power' totalled bmw m6 somehow does not have an S38 in it. But it is still worth 3500.00 CAD, oddly. Waste of time. I want a big inline six, but it would be nice to figure out one that is actually obtainable. All these high-mileage cars, wrecked, that are worth 3000 tp 4000 bucks because they are basically an engine sitting there that people want. What about a 5-series BMW six, 3.5 litre, and then I bolt a turbo on? That way I could probably find an intact car, harness and all, and it would likely have a 5-speed already. Plug a Megasquirt or Wolf ignition and EFI control, and I am in business.
  6. Oh and the Garage of Champions is the new 17 x 28 garage I built myself in the back yard with 10 foot ceilings, heated, 220 power, etc etc etc.
  7. Sorry, I guess you are not a mind reader. It's an S38B35 as far as I can tell from a J-spec M635csi, 1989. I don't know much about RB25 motors, but I do know that there seems to be a lot of enthusiast pressure on them which drives the price up, perhaps more than seems warranted- but like I say, I do not know much. Never even driven one. I am considering from the perspective of the conversion.
  8. I have built The Garage of Champions and now want a project to do out there. I loved Z cars as a kid, and recently sent my BMW 533i to the scrapyard with a kajillion little issues that were chewing away my ass like sitting on an anthill. So today I know where an M-powered BMW is sitting (as far as I know it is M-powered, anyway- no pics yet) and my question is this: Should I grab that BMW straight six and do the conversion on either a 240, 260 or 280z? And if so which one would be easiest, considering I do not have the donor car yet. Just the engine has come up in classifieds near me. Or should I just stick with nissan power and try to find a turbo rb25? BMW has like 300 hp in NA form. Perhaps I am just blue-sky daydreaming, something I am prone to. That is why I wanted to talk to the good people on the forum. Thanks!
