  1. Hey guys I am very new at this but I would like to get some quick opinions from you guys if you don't mind. I did do a search but these questions I could not find. I have a fully rebuilt L28 with an N42 block and an N42 head and an ECU off of a 1980 280zx non turbo. The motor was bored over a bit and new pistons were used, everything on the head and block was pretty much worked on and got the full treatment. I wanted to do a turbo with this set up but a few questions remain. 1. Can or will the combo I have work for a turbo to get up close to around 300hp or 350hp with no problems to the motor. 2. Will the ECU work for this or do I need to get a ECU from a turbo zxt? Any one that can chime in would be greatly appreciated. I could probably find the rest on my own but those are the 2 important questions so far before I get this started. Thanks in advanced.
  2. been wanting to post pics for awhile finally got the time. its a 76 280z, took off bumpers and got 240z front and rear bumpers and front lower spoiler. will get MSA flares and mold onto body. do a complete tear down and rebuild slowly. wanted to get the motor going to drive it for awhile while saving the money for the build then she'll come to a complete hault. fully rebuilt the motor just to get it running. gonna take it to my house and get started on the body and interior. this is my goal but candy red as for the motor.... planning on doing an LS2 swap smog legally. found a shop in Texas that will do it but my dad and I will do most fo the motor transplant the shop will just do all the wireing and finishing touches for the legal smog. long ways to go but will get there.
  3. Hey Tony I want to do the same with my N/A motor, it is an N42 Block with an N42 head but I am willing to build this motor stonger to with stand turbo. your saying if I get the parts needed .... for example turbo and manifold no matter what turbo it is and run descent boost when showing to the ref that it will pass inspection and make it smog legal no matter what internals i am running? now do I need the turbo ecu and wireing or will it pass with an aftermarket managment system such as the megasquirt? and will it pass with an intercooler as well? thanks in advance.
  4. OK here goes.... done with my L28 NA engine got it in the car already... It is a N42 Block with an N42 Head. Converted the auto tranny to a manual from a manual 1980 280zx donor car. From the 280ZX I have a N42 Block and a N47 Head. this is my question, I would like to use either the motor i have in the car now to add a turbo (and yes I did a lot of research on engine managment and what head to use) but it has been done with this block. I guess the whole issue is can the N47 Head be built up to with stand a turbo build up or should I go with the N42. I know I would have to aquire the Turbo and the Manifold, intercooler, bigger injectors and so on but I would really like to build up the N42 Block with the N47 head because I have a car that needs to be smoged every two years and my plan was to swap out engines from mod to NA then back to mod engine after the smog check. I have all the tools the engine hoist and the can do, its just the build of the mototr and the electrical wireing. now with the turbo If i do not change out the computer can i just do a stand alone with a megasquirt with the bigger injectors so when i do the swap back to the NA motor than I don't have to much to worry about electrical. also with the piping i will fab it so that I can remove it when I do the NA swap. ok so 1. can I do the stand alone megasquirt for the fuel management so I dont have to mess with the electrical. 2. The build up on the N47 head..good or not good.. 3. most important question is can I make this conversion good enough to make it a smog legal turbo engine so I don't have to keep doing the swap. I know alot of you guys will say just get the donor car with turbo already and just swap it out but believe me i have looked and nada.. so my other option is to do this. all advices will help me out big time.. thank you guys in advance.
  5. I hope no one minds me asking this question but i would really like to know if it is possible to do a V8 engine swap on a 1976 280Z and have it done right to pass the referee for smog reasons. just wanted to get an idea if it is really a hastle on doing it or is it not that hard but really takes patientce. just wanted to get an idea from those who have done it already before i tackle it straight out. all advice would be gladley taken.
  6. Can any one here help me with struts and coilovers. I was told that alot of people has done MR2 struts in replacement with 280z struts and putting ground control coilovers. But there is some cutting and re welding involved. Can any direct me to this DIY so I can see where it needs to be cut and rewelded. I would really appreciate it. many thanks.
