  1. Better yet, if someone who has done the swap in the sac area would come over with their car and I could rig it up quickly, I would be incredibly, incredibly gracious. I can also pay for gas.
  2. I've finally determined that my car (71 240z w/ L28et) is suffering from a vacuum leak. I got the car in this state, and finally got it to run after messing around with nearly everything. The problem is, I've played around with the vacuum line set up, and have no clue what it should look like. The car is stumbling on acceleration, but it isn't fuel related, my ecu, AFM, and TPS are all good. I've been searching for the past hour, and can't find a good diagram for the Vacuum lines... Can someone please point me in the right direction?
  3. Wow. That is gorgeous... I agree about the stripes continuing onto the airdam. Ugh. This make it so much harder - I was starting to lean towards red too...
  4. I'm not really going to a paintshop... More like, a friend's garage who has plenty of experience painting Hrm, I appreciate the offer, but I think you'd be getting the raw end of the deal. The hood is warped.
  5. I was thinking of doing just that, but the fenders and hood are currently fiberglass. Wouldn't it be strange to have a metal hood?
  6. Definitely plan on blending the fender with the air dam! The car really needs a new paintjob, the pictures cannot capture just how far gone the paint is - peeling, rust under paint, etc. Now I'm looking for a new color - Probably Ferrari Red or Ford Royal Blue. Also will just cut the lip off of the rear flair.
  7. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a lot of Z's in person. I've owned one other besides this one... I'm still chewing over paint. I'm also leaning towards Ferrari Red with black highlights... And it gives me an excuse to name the project 'Z'epar - red armored demon, seducer of women
  8. Picked this one up a few weeks ago, and now I'm debating about what direction I want to take it in. I will definitely remove and fill the rear bumper and blend in where the fenders meet the air dam. I'm thinking of Ford Royal Blue with black highlights on the hood vents, spoiler, and tail light panel... But after looking through pictures I'm not sure. I also plan on shaving the rear flares. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I'm just playing around with ideas right now, but plan to have my Z complete by the end of January, and can throw it into paint anytime.
  9. Yup. Downloaded the manual and ended up spending a few days tracing every wire. Finally found it though! She starts, but now I've run into other problems (of course)... Here's a copypasta from another thread L28ET swap in a 71 240z. Replaced almost everything fuel related (rotor, cap, plugs/wires, fuel pump, injectors). It lets me rev up the car slowly, but dies out with anything more than that. Everything is essentially stock, save a pop off valve and intercooler. Any ideas besides AFM. Strangely enough, the car doesn't immediately die when I pull the TPS sensor, but from what I've read, bad TPS symptoms are different from this.

  11. I'll make sure to post pics when it's done! I'm going to tear it apart and paint everything... She has everything perfect except paint - I'm still in turbo goodness after-glow. Reasonably, I will have this car completely done by the 1st, but will give it some extra time to dry.
  12. Wow. That is absolutely gorgeous - I'm not just saying that to be nice. Very, very nice work. Hrm..... I wonder if I can still pull off black side stripes without black flairs or rims.
  13. Yeah, the flares are rubbing a bit on the rear. Argh. Lol, I wasn't finding too many that were striped, I guess that figures. Should I bother with the black highlighting? As much as I want to make it custom, and my own, I want a general appreciation for what it is, you know? EDIT- See the lip on the rear flare - it looks like a shadow in the picture, but it isnt. I wonder if I could solve the mounting issue if it was just cut from that point.
  14. Alright, so recently bought a 71 240z. I love all the custom work done on the car, but hate, hate hate my rear flares. So my question is, whats the cheapest way to reduce these flares. Could I have my paint guy shave them down, or would it look funny? Another question. I've been looking at so many blues, and I really like darkish blues - Lexus blue, dodge patriot blue, etc. I really liked the Blue Oval Z's Blue, does anyone know PPG code? Lastly, for color styling. I want to go one of two routes. Either I paint the car blue and paint certain parts glossy black - hood louvers, hatch louvers, BRE spoiler, and the rear light panel. Or I can paint it blue with white stripes, ala Blue Oval Z. I'm just worried the hood louvers will look funky with white stripes covering them. Anyone have opinions? Thanks in advance!

  16. Thanks! I will definitely check out/read to death the megamanual. I'm wondering if I got a good deal on this Z. What would you all pay for this car? EDIT- So, after reading the Megamanual, I'm fairly certain I can pull it off. My question now is, will the v2.2 be good enough?
  17. Are they really rare seats? Definitely adds a coolness factor to the car I won't be looking to get rid of them though, they seems to fit better and looks a lot nicer than the Sparcos I have in my garage. So I did a lot of reading into the MS. Although I'm not entirely confident... I think it's something I can take on. I think it's definitely worth it all things considered. I'm not adjusting the piping unless I have a ton of spare time and extra money on my hands - I'd rather upgrade the injectors/ECU first. Does anyone know if I can use a Macbook Pro with XP installed to tune the MS? Also, are there any guides you wish you read when you started MS? I looked into the one here on Hybridz, but its going over my head. I will have this car up and running by Friday at the latest, and I will do some tinkering in the morning. I love the reactions this car gets. Either people hate it or love it. I'm very thankful there's a community out here willing to share the Z experience - makes it a lot easier for me to dump money into an awesome care
  18. Lol, alright... I'll do a lot more research into the MS set up (My wallet is already kicking and screaming) I'll make sure to post the car in the next few weeks after she's all cleaned up and set up the way I want it to be! EDIT - Looking around, I think I might try out the Z31 ECU swap.
  19. @JSM I understand where you are coming from. I really wanted to post for a few reasons: I am a long time lurker, and 1.) I finally had a chance to post something 2.) I get to show off my super sexy Z before she gets cleaned up even more and 3.) to see if there were any mods to start researching/looking into for my specific budget.

  21. Lmao. I'm a little embarrassed about the intercooler piping joke - I've only worked on n/a cars before this, and my logic was more pipe = cooler air. Here's some extra pictures. I plan to change add on to the interior and take away the hideous blue harness, as well as delete the rear bumper and add a ducktail. Shoot. Not looking forward to learning the megasquirt... Anyone have any knowledge about swapping to the Z31 computer? Is it worth it? I was planning to clean up the engine bay as soon as I got it running, which shouldn't be a huge deal. I'm hoping the coil is bad...
  22. Okay! I'll look into the longer intercooler piping. I'm thinking of bringing the boost up to 12psi anyways! I bought it in this condition, the previous owner said that it suddenly died on him but was running well before then. I've been talking on and off with him for about 2 months, and he seems like a pretty straight-forward guy for what it's worth. Alright, I will go through the everything connected to the ECU as well as grounds. Thank you!
  23. Hey all, I know this topic is beaten to death, but I need to know where to go with my budget and unique set up. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I just picked up a 71 240z with an L28et with 5k miles after rebuild. (To quickly veer off topic, It has low voltage to the coil (6 volts), low spark and will crank, but won't start. Any ideas as to what it could be?). Anyway, the mods done so far are an added wastegate, new fuse box, intercooler, boost increased to 9psi, nismo suspension, rollcage, sparco seats, and electronic ignition. I have a low budget, being a student, and have been doing a lot of looking over the biggest bang for the buck for added performance. I'm looking at a new ECU, but motorsport is $600, and megasquirt looks a little to tough for a "dedicated amateur" like myself. Any recommendations for an <$800 budget? Thanks in advance!
