  1. hey guys i have power commander on my bike right now. it is the pc3 so it only controls injection and not ignition. ive been wanting to upgrade to the the new power commader that does control ignition but i was thinkin about trying the megasquirt& spark but so far i havent found anyone who tried it on a bike before and i was wondering what you guys think about it. im not sure if there is enough resolution to tune it as precise as i would like since i will be running just under 13,000rpms and it has12x12 resolution also there are individual coil sticks on the plugs i rso will it hold up the the harsh conditions 130mph+wheelies and 186 top speeds and plenty of vibrations. as far as sensors go i think everything on the bike would be compatable. another issue is size how big is the unit. oh yeah i read something about an update coming out for sequential injector and coil on plug compatability and it will need both a crank and cam position sensor whats up with that? any input on the subject would be greatly appreciatated.
  2. yeah i hear ya there, im gonna keep the gt42 around for a future build though:) . ive got pretty much everything matched up the way i want except forged pistons and the drivetrain for my current build. my 42lb injectors will be enough for now cuz my pistons wont take any more power than i can make already. just need to get the damn thing painted and together. also tim did you ever get your egt down?
  3. ya ive found a 83 280zx about 15mi. away with an automatic that would be good a place to start. i think i can get it for under 500. i saw it sitting in an old pole barn about a year ago when i was driving around and stopped. i was curious about when your power came on tim and ya thats a bit too high for me my cam is only good for 7200rpms. Does anyone make titanium valvetrain components for Z's that would be nice. Seems like i saw them somewhere once. you run a N42 as well dont you tim? whats your cr and what r u running for pistons if you dont mind me asking? 8.08 is what i should be at with the build im working on and i think that should allow me plenty of room for boost w/o detonation wouldnt you say.
  4. sorry had some typos on that last post microtec lt-8 ems and its a 3" thick ic not 2 and 42lb inj are too small just what i got at the moment. im running the 6btm cuz the microtec isn't cdi, i know the lt-8 already has boost retard so i dont the boost retartd function on the 6btm as well but its what i had bought already for something else. what i was shooting for when i set out to build the z was 400-450hp daily driver and am thinking i will stick with the t3/4 hybrid for this build and start amassing parts for a monster drag z in the future more suitable for for the drag strip than running around town.
  5. ya im going to be running an electromotive lt-8 ems tuned with my wb02, msd 6btm cdi with electronic dizzy, ported stock turbo manifold and bead blasted to mirror shine almost, street/track porting nothing too crazy, cc'ed to 3.4cc's larger than stock i think 48cc's, ported n42 intake with 60mm tb, 42lb/hr inj., 24x12x3 intercooler, tuliped and swirl polished ss valves, 280/270 turbo grind cam, lightened the flywheel quite a bit, arp studs throughout, weakest link is the stock dished pistons. i was planning on running 13psi or so until i could afford to have some new one made. but all this still prob wont spin that big ass turbo huh? it says here that its good for 2.0-8.0l engines but i dunno if thats anything to go by or not http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/catelog/Turbochargers/GT42/GT4294_731376_1.htm
  6. Hey guys been slowly pluggin away at my z for a year and a half now and i am starting to the light at the end of the tunnel. i had planed on using a t3/t04b hybrid but today my dad bought a borg warner gta42, more hp quicker spooling time, for his kenworth with a 12.8liter detroit diesel series 60 and as i was taking the old turbo out and i was joking about how he should let me have it and to my amazment he said i could. so the game plan has changed a bit > right now it has a 1.34 a/r turbine housing and .60a/r comp. with 5in inlet 3in outlet approx. i just used measuring tape. i know the turbine housing is huge and is going to spool way high in the rpm range. i want something that will spool up by 3800 at the most really, is that doable with this turbo with a small a/r turbine housing? also i did a search for gt42 to see how many other guys have one and what they are running for injectors with it and didnt find much so any links to posts or more info would be great. also anything on flanges and mounting the heavy beast would be awesome prob going to stick with stock turbo manifold if i can
  7. i saw a video on u tube of a guy with hy35 or something and it sounded bad roasting them at 60 without tryin too hard and smokin a fairly beefy 300zxtt..i havent looked at anything but t series thusfar but im open to new things...what type of holset do 450+ guys use and by the way are 42lb injectors enough to supply those kinds of boosts
  8. Im doing away with the cracked up dirty turbine housing and looking for a t4 housing. What size & trim housing and turbine would be the most efficient with a .60 t04b compressor 3" inlet 2"out. The compressor wheel is 2 9/16in at the base and 1 7/8in at the top +-.03", crapy calipers not sure if it matters though. There are 8 large fins and 8 smaller fins inbetween the larger ones any help identifying it would rock, oh yeah there is an A stamped on the wheel and the tag on the housing says t04b80 if that helps. I would like to push 450+hp without having too terrible long to wait for boost. i imagine a .68 would do the trick?
  9. i was wondering what i had so i went out and took measurments from my wheels..the compressor wheel is 2 9/16in at the base and 1 7/8in at the top of the fins there are 8 large fins and 8 smaller fins inbetween the larger ones..the housing is .60ar aireasearch with a 3in inlet and 2in outlet. the exhaust turbine wheel is 2 3/8in at the base and 2in at the top with 11fins of the same shape and size, should be whatever the standard .63ar t3 from a 280zxt came with..i was reading that some people machine their turbine housing out to fit larger wheels would that be better than going with a t4 hot side and where would i get it done at nobody around here thinks they want to try it. also i just pulled my turbine housing out of the parts cleaner and there are cracks all over so i dont even want to use it...should i find another t3 or go full t4 for less backpressure?
  10. out of curiosity i took the airgun and blew through a damaged t4 turbine housing and it spooled up fast and moved a lot of air but when i tried that with the rajay, wich was in 50x better condition atleast, it hardly moved at all so yeah i think the rajay wouldnt be for me..i was wondering if anyone out there who has driven a t3/t04b hybird and also a full t4 could tell me how much boost they were able to run and when the boost came on, because if im wasting my time and limiting myself with the hybird i might as well go with the full t4 and external wg
  11. if i had could buy any turbo to match my engine and horse power goal of 400+hp goal what would it be? this is a rundown of what i have going on n42 ported/polished cc'ed with tuliped ss valves and a 280/270 turbo grind cam, 8.1:1cr, 60mm tb 42lb/hr injectors, 24x12x3intercooler, 3in dp and exhaust, microtec lt8 ecu and msd cd ignition with boost retard, arp hardware. planning to run e85 and looking into methanol injection
  12. does the rajay spool slower than a t4 and if so is the turbine the reason the rajay spools so slowly because i cant really see a difference between the rajay and the to4b on my dads 81' ac 7020 tractor. i have a set of wheels from an old to4b that came off another tractor could these be put on the rajay to essentially make a to4b. im just spitballing here but also i have a manifold and turbo flange that came with the rajay the manifold looks like a cast iron n/a mainfold that has individual runners that go to the collector and it seems like this might be good to keep the exhaust pulses seperate and cause less turbulance but im no fluid dynamics buff.
  13. i have a rajay .60ar turbo i dont know anything about. i was going to run a t3/t04b. the rajay looks like a to4b so i figured it have a higher boost threshold than the t3/4 hybrid and i was just wondering if anyone knew about when the boost came one on the rajay compared to a t3/04b and how much potential boost i could expect to make from them. i would take measurments if i knew what to take them from in order to identfy the wheels. does the smaller turbine of the t3 make more backpressure than the larger rajay?
  14. sorry i should have explained what i meant about where to unshroud better. should i do the whole perimeter of the chamber or just the area near the valves out to the edge of the fire ring? also i bought the how to book along with a couple of others but i was hoping to hear some nice little tid bits that might help me squeeze the most out of the head. one more thing while im at it, anyone out there know where to get good prices on cross buffs, stones, burr bits and other port polish tools
  15. ok now that it is warm again i have started working on my z again..should be finished this summer although thats what i said last spring..im starting with cc'ing my head its an n42 being run with a turbo by the way. what i needed to know was how far along either sides of the combustion chamber should i remove material from to unshroud the valves, as wide as the the valves are or more than that? also when i blend the valve seat area do i want to radius the edge or just blend a nice transition flat with he seats? is there anything different that i should do with the exhaust valve from the intake? should i do anything around the spark plug besides smooth the threads and what should i do with the side opposite the plug? i have looked at some of braaps posts and others but im not experienced enough to look at it and see what i need to do and i dont want my first real attempt at building head to be a faliure..ohh yeah i had a local guy port polish and cc the head last summer but he didnt cc it or put it on the flow bench so i dont know if he even did any good:mad: and furthermore when i cc it i am worried that i might mess up the valve job he did. what do you guys think can i do it without messing up the valve job?
