  1. Hey, can you hold off on shipping it until the end of the week... Sorry about not responding sooner... I'm pretty much bed ridden and judging from my yellow sputum, some kind of bacterial infection on its way out the door. Not to mention I just bought a new motherboard for my pc which ran me up the wall for 180$ since they didn't have the one I wanted which would have saved me 40 bucks and I could have purchased the crossmember this weekend. Would you mind holding on to it until this upcoming weekend? In the mean time you can pm me your paypal email and when I get the 40, I'll send it your way!

Thank you and I'm terribly sorry for the hassle :/

  2. Hey guys, it's been a while since I posted on the forum and ill be sure to post why in a more relevant thread :D but for the mean time I'm looking for what seems to be a very hard part to find and most people seem to fabricate their own and the ones who do fab their own dont give fantastic instructions to do so yourself but in any case I am trying to find the front most mount for the differential in the s30 ( i have a 73' 240) that also holds the fronts of the control arms in. I think there is a guy on this forum that fabs and sells them but I haven't seen a post from him recently and I didn't find any front diff mounts in the listed parts for sale. Thanks for any replies!

Ps. Sorry if I violated any thread rules, I looked them over again real quick but I seem to break them all the time >.> haha

    Thanks guys

  3. My dad always said the n/a 280 was the most fun car he's ever driven... and he's driven a lot of things. He said it could never keep up with the quattro that he always wanted but it had enough power that he didn't wish he had bought the turbo and he got about 30mpg so he always had his foot in it... partially because the fuel pump was bad haha.

  4. Granted, it's not an s30 but since I rarely ever see on datsun, there is a red 280zx in this town I always go to on the weekends (along with a gunmetal GTR which breaks my neck XD) and every time I see her I just slam on my brakes and watch her go by... I've never been able to catch the guy to talk to him.

If I saw that happening, I'd turn my head til it fell off!

  5. This brought tears to my eyes... lol good luck bro. I've never used POR but I hear good things about it but personally I don't know if I would use it on a unibody car because people say it works better if you paint over the rust and not remove the rust but I don't know, I'm no body work guy, people just say it sticks better. I need to ask the guy I bought mine from where he bought the floor pans, all I know is he called up some old company but he couldn't find the magazine to tell me.

  6. For starters sorry I haven't posted more... I've been so busy with work and my main project I just haven't had any time for my other two toys, but with winter coming up and things slowing down at work I should have some time to get some work done on the z at least.... more on that later though... I mainly just wanted to ask if someone could post me a picture of the underside of a 240 or a diagram so I kind of have a map... not only is this my first ground up car but its also the first unibody I'm doing major work on so I'm not 100% confident yet on where exactly everything bolts up and as much as I try I can't seem to find a good diagram on the net or on any of my shop's programs since they pretty much don't have diagrams past 1985 T.T.... yeah anyways I'm just trying to figure out how to bolt up these control arms and the rack and support and all that on the first go without fighting too much.

    Thanks again!

  7. Well the car you describe is pretty much worth upwards of 3 grand not seeing it... I would jack it up and take a hard look underneath... sadly your bound to find something to bring down the price, look at the tires check the shocks, look it the spare tire well and at the spare, tell her the chassis of these cars always seem to fall out of spec and it will need and alignment once you get the shocks... go overboard.

  8. Maybe I'm the only one that thought this but you said budget build and 400 horse and vg motor in like the same string of words. Your looking at modifying forced induction and that just isnt cheap at all... never... Not being a fan of cross overs, I would have to say two things, beware that 400 horse in a 2000lb car is a bit more than fun haha and you can get a swap kit for a v8 and reach that 400 horse goal for half the price of turbo v6 ... Maybe others have differing reasons but I myself was gonna buy a z31 for 400 bucks and try to make it a fun car but once you get past 83 not only does the aftermarket get smaller but it gets more expensive... My vote is make it rust free and drop a v8 in it and maybe watch a couple videos of z's with v8s and keep in mind that if you romp on it at highway speeds you might just be looking the opposite direction :D... Good luck with getting the car though! - and if your aunt doesn't give you the car that sucks and I'd go swimming around in your local barns and junkyards see what you can find.

SCCA won't cry, they just won't allow you to do it. Or, like someone else said, you may enter an all inclusive class like ITE. If you are trying to better yourself, this isn't the way to do it and the Z car would make short food out of the MR2. For great racing in SCCA and a host of race lengths to choose from, build your Z car to the ITS rules. Power isn't everything and being close to 200 hp ain't nothin to sneeze at. Now, on to NASA. You may time trial your car and compare to the MR2, but wheel to wheel may be difficult. They have a division where you begin in a certain class and end up in another class depending on how many and what type of modifications you have. Remember, the true sanctioning bodies have a job to keep parity. Nobody wants to see a particular car stink up the show week in and week out. So, to be competitive in NASA and SCCA, you must be able to learn the rules and have fun. Otherwise, just look up your local High Performance Driver Education companies and do track days with them.

Yeah I've heard about ITE since I have a friend that ran something like a 400 horse mr2 in that and he said it's no fun since its just big name vettes that eat the competition and all I am truly looking for in my build is about 200 horsepower, and the time trials were also suggested to us and we did not really like the idea of that. So far from everything that we have heard the open race is the most likely course of events. I would like to own a car that requires skill to actually place in a road race, not like like a miata that just eats it up :D but I don't see the point road challenges where cars are putting down massive numbers, I might as well just save up for an LFA XD... I think we might have to limit our road challenges to back roads in maryland haha.

    Thanks for the input guys.

  10. OK, being that there's hundreds of different classes, my question is which one I could possibly look into with the following prerequisites... Like i said before I have a 240 and I'm still deciding on its path but my friend wants to buy an mr2 and me road race with him. My first comment was there was no way seeing as how I was planning on using a carb L28 and from what I've heard, that would make the scca cry with their rule book in hand. After having said this he said I should ask if there was a class even still that a 240 with L28 with modified fuel and stock everything else except for the obvious suspension upgrades required (probably the tokico kit), could compete in with an mr2 with stock everything besides suspension. Thanks for any insight if anyone is a keen competitor. I tried searching through some of the rules but too much info and not enough specificity.

    Thanks

  11. If I might add, for starters I come from the supra scene so I'm the odd man out when it comes to all of my friends. Personally from most of what I've seen it's less headaches and and a marginal amount of more money but in the end people are generally more happy. Buy the gte block for 2gs do swap... my buddy went through 7ms 5ms 1js and the like and in the end after the 10 gs or more he spent trying to get things right and join the club he finally just caved and bought a 2jzgte vvti motor... swap is actually going on as we speak because he blew his head gasket the other day in his ge block... now aside from others experiences, my advice... turbo chargers are the killer, if you can get the motor with the turbo you wont regret it and since you have to get a new ecu anyways a full deal wont be anymore painful where as most supra owners dont get the vvti because the tune requires the vvti ecu and new harness but in your case no big. That's just my advice backed by the whole whopping 2 posts I have on this site xD. Good luck mate with however you do it.
