  1. Springs, struts, and a poly bushing kit...biggest bang for the buck besides wheels and tires. Dont go much lower than 1" from stock though. The tires may rub until you get flares and cut the metal away. Also some brake work is nice if you havent done so. A good pad and shoe upgrade, SS brake flex lines, makes a world of difference. Strut tower bars.... sorry if I listed stuff you already have. If I did you can buy it anyway and send it to me instead..

I second it, gotta have the grip and control on the road to handle all the power you add.

  2. One word of advice ... when lowering the hood down make sure the hood is aligned with the latch properly. It's a pain the A$$ to get it undone (you have to up it up on a lift, go under the car and wrench off the the two bolts which hold the latch), I know, I had to do it last year. Just watch out for the exhaust pipes ... and if you have upgrade the engine and there isn't space to get up there, Hello cutting wheel and new hood :icon54:. Best of luck ...

  3. My ignition is also so worn that it will accept just about any long key (like my old Nissan Sentra key) ... it's on the long list of things to do, but you can try to start my car with the real key, but like L28et, you have to find out how to disable my kill switch .

  4. When I installed my frame rails from Bad Dogs I used the stitch method, but also welded them up full on the outside and most of the way on the inside. I stitched welded because the metal was getting to hot and was warping if you went more than 2 inches at a time ... so I went back and forth from frame rail to frame rail to allow the metal time to settle between welds. I only stitch welded the inside cause I was having a hell of a time getting under my car on my jack stands. I just used some a boat load of silicon to seal up the frame rails and later went over it all in Por-15 then Herculiner Bed Liner ... the bottom of my car is quite rust proof now.

Also, be sure to jack up the car on the frame rail to make sure it is settled well. if you just weld it up free hanging with someone holding it and then raise the car on a lift it will warp the metal.

Here is a question to you all. The original frame rails had a hole in them, I presume to allow water to drain out. The Bad Dog ones don't have this? Would this be a good thing to add or just leave it be?

  5. Please post more photos ... I am looking at getting this wheels later on once I can scrap together the cash. I need some Z porn to look at ... my Z won't be here in Europe till the end of April. I miss driving it ... hell, I miss when it gives me ♥♥♥♥ and I get pissed off and I got to fix it ... come to think of it, these are the exact same things I miss about my wife (who will be arriving shortly before the Z) ... I got a feeling I will be doing a lot of driving at the end of April :-P.

  6. I am been trying to buy a Holset turbo and bidded on a HX35 for a $100 plus $30 shipping. The sellers name was Kayla*Marie. Just before I went on a business trip, I received an email from rameus90300@gmail.com that said ebay told him that even though the auction was not over, I was declared the "default winner" and was I still interested. Since I have never sold anything, I told him sure and emailed my office address.

When I checked my email a couple days later. I had received 3 almost identical emails from this person with an address in Romania. The

original seller in the ebay ad noted that he/she is in Minnesota! Also, the email has the ebay logo, except in the body of the email the "e" and "bay" are slightly spaced too far apart. I have emailed ebay with my suspicions. Also, I got a "you did not win" notice as the turbo sold for $240.00 plus shipping. Needless to say, nothing is going to happen with this auction.

This is your typical "physing" e-mail you can get. The crooks are hoping to get your login info for e-bay and end up doing you an bit of harm. They are now sending them out before the auction is over as 'questions' and also lot's of 'second chance offers'. BTW, it has nothing to do with the original person doing the auction, they were more than likely clueless. The Romanian (Nigerian, or Latvians ...) just use anyones account name and slap it and their auction into the fake e-mail.

  7. Why the hell was I never taught this one in metal shop in High School? We only ever really worked on iron and build trailers. Still, that would have come in handy knowledge back then and I am glad to know it now. We did however get the never move a gas tank without a safety cap ... there was even a patch in the wall with newer cyinder blocks to go along with that story :o

So what is the best way to cut soft metals?

  8. Changing the driving age limit won't change things. Stupidity is a chronic condition which affects all age classes. These two kids were just stupid. Look at how much affect the drinking age being 21 has on alcohol related problems.

Kids need a check in reality. Two years ago I meet an 18 kid here in Belgium and he was all "I love America, I want to go there!" I asked, "Well where would you go?" He said, "I want to go to Los Angeles and be and illegal street racer! I want a fast Honda!" I had to stop the coke from coming out of my nose when I heard that. Man, this kids idea of America was skewed, bits of flashy movies and bad 90's sitcoms that lasted less than a season. He thought To Fast to Furious was real life.

The next line he uttered even made me more disturbed. "Then I want to go to Harlem and play basketball with the (a famous n word)." I will say in dutch, the common word for a black person sounds a lot like it and isn't derogatory, just like saying Caucasian. I set the kid straight about that dream (and use of that word in English, especially in Harlem when you are white) and possibly saved his life at the same time.

  9. Below are some ideas I have made. For the ones with the ring around the outside, I would say the details are raised ... for the large Z have it indented. The one labled 280z can be changed to 240 or 260, but I think the 280 was the only one with this big nasty horn button. I'm not a graphic artist, so these aren't top quality, I'm must better at working with photos, not making them on the computer from scratch.

Please, let's see some other ideas. Cold Fusion is looking to make these in the next few weeks. We can all decide on which designs we like the best and go from there.

  10. Thank you Two40MuscleZ for your post. These two men (if they are boys, they are about to grow up real quick) face a long road no one ever wants to travel.

I almost lostmy two cousins in a freeway accident 4 years ago, not street racing, just a speeding 18 wheeler and an SUV. They still aren't recovered to this day. One of them couldn't come to my wedding because she can't go into a plane because of the confined space.

And to those of you who are waiting for people to "flame" on this post I would ask WHY WOULD YOU EVER LET SOMEONE FLAME A RIGHT THING. Street racing, is ILLEGAL, STUPID and DANGEROUS. There is no place for it. If you support illegal street racing I will be the first to label you a moron and sign you up as an organ donor. If you got the need for speed take it to the track.

They have a lot of cool steering wheels and have their own low profile horn button.

I thought about this, but this is to save some of us some extra cash for other things. I like keeping my Z stock looking, but doing some nice mods where I choose. Once you have the layout programed in the machince the cost will be quite 'cheap' verse a whole new steering wheel. It's not everybody's cup of tea, but I like it :)

I will sit down and come up with some rough sketches of my idea for the horn pad. I've got a nasty cold, so free time for things like this will be a nice change from movie after movie.

  12. I have thought about replacing the HUGE cumbersome stock horn pad (button)on my 280z with something different. I was thinking if someone out there has ever CNC'd one. On my 280z there is a metal attachment which would make it easy to attach.

I am thinking a nice billet aluminum center cap with the Z logo in the middle, quite flat and with a little detail on the side. Would be nice I think ...

Any other ideas would be great ...

  13. Saw your car on Ebay and if someone picked it up they would be a lucky man (or woman). I've seen projects like this come along and now that I look back at all the money I have put into my car (and I haven't even come close to upgrading it like you) that I would have bought your car in a second, but this is all hindsight ... still I wish you luck in getting a good price.

  14. From what I can see in the picture ...

A new fuel rail .... the coil and distributor have been relocated .... The vacuum bottle ... a lot of the exhaust manifold stuff ... relocation of may wires ... I am sure there is more... Can't tell any more without there being a shot from the other side.

This is where I plan to take my car at some point, it's just going to have to wait till I get my suspension and wheels upgraded, but in the mean time I want the car to run better and OEM original Vacuum hoses are old and I want to replace them.

  15. Not even close to a comprehensive list of what needs to happen ... but to start with:

    1) Drain Gas, oil, trans fluid, radiator fluid, brake fluid ... flush each system, you gas tank will have rust in it, I can guarantee you this. It will need to be boiled and treated

    2) tow, drag, get the car to a mechanic (or do these if you already have the knowledge and time). The injectors are going to have problems. They need to be cleaned and repaired or replaced. The engine block might have rust in there, so this needs to be dealt with.

    3) There are lots of Vaccum hoses you will need to have replaced if they are bad, these can affect the drivablity of your car. Also some of the fuel hoses and others might need to be replaced.

    4) There is a good chance the rear brake master cyclinders are full or rust and need to be replaced.

Basically if it's a liquid, it needs to be replaced and it's transport system needs to be checked and replaced/repaired. Once all this happens i suggest you drive the car for at least 3 months and have a pen and paper and write down all those little things you notice the car will need one. Enjoy the car, get a feel for it, then go after any restoration/ mods you want to do to the car. Use the search feature on the site to get help with any of the projects. Hope this helps.

Also check out my 75' and it's refreshing it went throught:

  16. Nissan has to know they go the 350z wrong when the people who love the orignal Z's aren't at all flattered with the new model.

I will say I don't hate the 350, in fact I would own one if I could afford it, but I think it could/should be a different model than a Z. Of course the 350 was probably made to appeal to a demographic that isn't on this site.

If they redid the rear end of the car, added a few changes to the front. It would be a GREAT redo on the origional 240z.

  17. I use to work for Fourbucks, sorry that is Starbucks ... while there I actually learned about coffee and this is the real deal. People really pay abour 300 dollars a pound (verse 10 for normal stuff at SB). I have also read about the coffee in GQ and Maxium when the were doing those, if you had a boat load of money, sections.

I hate to admit it, but i have been tempted to try a cup of coffee in the same way you would be tempted by a 10,000 bottle of fine wine. You just want to know what makes whatever it is worth that much.

  18. Well it looks like my wife and I will be moving to Europe (Belgium) during the year. It's going to be a permanent move, so I REALLY want to take my Z with me. I would like to hear recommendations for shipping companies? The costs involved, the issues, etc. ...

I am planning on shipping in a 20 foot container and packing some extra stuff with us (family stuff, clothes, etc.). I figure this is the best and cheapest method.

Thanks for any help in advance.

  19. Why didn't your friend like them? Do they fit your Z? If they truly have only a few thousand miles and he didn't blow the struts jumping railroad grades or such, they might be a screaming deal... IF THEY ARE WHAT YOU NEED/WANT.

I am not 100% on the condition of the springs and struts, so I will go new.

Why not rebuild/upgrade springs, struts and suspension bushings before deciding on sway bars? When a person has learned the handling characteristics of their new suspension, then a change in sway bars might be indicated. Any changes should be well thought out, so as to modify current handling in a predictable manner.

Thank you very much for you comments. I will delay any sway bar upgrades untill after my other suspension upgrades.

    -Gregg-

  20. I have a 75' 280z that I am going to do a suspension upgrade, but I am torn between if I should buy new performance sway bars or I should stick to the stock ones. I don't feel like dropping the extra 300 bucks. I won't be doing much if any racing with the car, just want the car to drive nicer ... I am already putting on Tyko HP and Edinbach Springs and new urethane bushings.

Also, I have the option to pick up some Edinbach Springs and Tokico HP struts from a friend that are used and only have a couple thousand miles on them. Is it a good idea buy used or just go new?

    Thanks for the help...
