  1. lol determination lol i cant help it i just love rb's ok guys need a name for her, i have a few got gismo for gmc and nismo or sky-noma or sno-line. I almost have her drivable just gotta replace the fuel lines, run the ecu and harness inside the cab, hook up the rad fan and put on the maf i have and hope it'll work til i get a z32 maf.

  2. nope hood fits fine got over an inch clearance and the engine doesnt really go any farther down, but it does run!!! i got her started today forgot to hook up the injector power last night. So just the small things and it'll move on it's own very soon.

  3. the front sump works just fine, With the rear sump pan it would be over the front cross member but shouldnt hit it either. I can get a little more height on the tranny now if i need it with the hole in the floor but the drive line angle is just fine so i probably wont bother as long as there aren't any other problems. I looked around and from what i could find the angle of the motor as long as it isn't too severe doesnt matter as much as the drive line angle. Plus my truck has air ride so it sits at different heights at different times, driving, sitting ect.

  4. yea i had to tip it a little to get it to clear the steering shaft and still keep it somewhat low in the engine bay. I did adjust it a bit more today and slid the tranny mount over about an inch making everything fit much better. The tranny plate is 1/2 thick plate and the motor mounts are 1/4 thick steel plate. The drivers side was added to but the pass side i just extended out about 4 inches. Best thing is this is basically reversable if i wanted to run the 2.2l again(cant imagine why). Now to pull the engine fix one of the coolant lines and paint the motor mounts. i'll have more pics tonight.....

  5. well i got the engine in and mounts made here are some pics..... im tired lol so there wont be much discription with these

motor looks like its on a heck of an angle but it's really not im gonna get my angle finder and see what degree angle it is really on....... more to come tomorrow

  6. update: i got the stock gm 2.2l out and am gonna test fit the rb20 tonight after work. A buddy and i got the engine out in three hours last night which i thought was pretty good. The engine should fit nicely, driveshaft should be fairly simple, clutch will take a lil work, none of the stock gauges will work so i bought the interface board and cable for the rb engines to see if it will work to tune it(doubt it but claims it does) and at least to monitor what the engine is doing since i have no more gauges. The nav unit i have has a speedo in it so a speedo is no big deal, the only thing that wont be listed is fuel level which i can mount a fuel gauge someplace im not worried about that. From my measurements i should be able to drop the engine in with minimal mods and a slight chance i will get to use the clutch fan. Its very slight i will get to use the stock fan but if not an electric will be just fine. Hey jitter u still got some small fans laying around?

  7. got the swap yesterday! man that was fast shipping from NJ to The tipof the thumb of MI in three days incl the day it went out! Well guys i am very happy with the engine so far everything looks top notch and the lil present was a blitz access ecu!!! i dunno the tune in it but i will find out soon enuf when i get her started. I plan to start the swap next weekend but i am gonna get things rolling in the mean time. I plan to sort out the harness label what i need to so it makes it go a little faster and sort out the trucks wiring. I wanna take a close look at the drive shaft and the rb yoke to see what i need to do to make it work. Im pretty sure i will have to put a new hole in the floor for the shifter but that is simple. I wanna get out my old clutch master cyl and make a hose for it to goto the new slave cyl. The one in the sonoma is an internal one and has a plastic line and the rb is external with a rubber line. The rb20 is shorter than the rb25 by about an inch so making it fit will be easier. It looks like i can get it in without moving the radiator. I was talkin with racinjitter and he brought up a good idea, i have two sets of rb26dett turbos with manifolds (got em for free) if i have turbo clearance problems with the stocker i can probably put the twins on it instead. I have to get the manifold off and see how close the rb26's are to it and if i have to flip any brackets or not but it's an option and i have yet to see an rb20dett lol specially in a sonoma.

  8. some guys have swapped the rb20 into their 240,260,280's so it's not the first smaller displacement swap. Plus my truck is a 4cyl and i think stock they make like 98hp with the turbo i think she puts down around 140hp. The rb20 puts down 210hp and is a 6 cyl so the tq is gonna help alot too. There is someone who has swapped an rb25 into their s10 but it was a 95 or so year mine is a 99 and i plan to hook up all the accessories like the ac and ps.

  9. the guy from the shop just called and asked if i was gonna mod the motor? I told him prolly not right away but i plan to. He said he's throwing in a lil gift i'll like and didn't tell me what it was...... hmmmm maybe a chip?

  10. shipping was 120 which blew me away! all the other places want like 300-400 flat rate!!! They seem like a great bunch of guys i called them first to kinda get a feel for the shop then i bought the one in the auction. It comes with everything i need to swap it in the truck so when i get started i will take pics

  11. i tried searching and could find very little i am wondering if the vg rods will work in my rb30? Im picking some pistons up from careless and i am gonna need rods very soon. If it's been covered can someone point me in the right direction?

  12. hey guys i just found out im coming down to texas on sunday thru wednesday for work and i was wondering if there are a few guys with rb's? Not sure exactly where the place is right now but i think it's by dallas if not in dallas. I know i know texas is a huge state but i figured id get the word out since i leave in two days and wanted to see some other rb's :D

  13. I dunno man... look at this pic again. The z32 wheel (on top) has the very top of each of its slots lining up with almost the very bottom of the z31's wheel. I couldn't give you an exact measurement unless I pulled stuff apart and lined it up again, but basically, what every the z32 slot 'height' is, is how far apart they are from each other.

So, you are saying where the two screws that hold the optical sensor over the wheel have bushing in them (under the screws). If I pull those out (which I haven't looked at yet) then the optical eye will have more "play" and be able to move in and out some? I may have to give this a try and see if it is enough. However, I have to figure out a way to tell if it is lined up properly. I don't think eyeballing it is the correct way to go about it.

ok what i did was take the three screws that hold the whole cas base into the housing out and i tried drilling them first but after the drill bit got a good bite all it did was spin so i pulled it out with the bushing still stuck to the bit making the bushing come out. I did it to all three holes so i could slide the whole unit back and forth. The thing about these is either its gonna work or not there isnt' going to be an inbetween. I took apart the z32 eye.... well as much as i could the two screws holding the eye in place do come out but there are hard wire leads holding the eye inplace but i could get it enough apart to see there are two sets of openings. i will try and get a pic so everyone can see later on tonite. My guess is that the eye is all one piece but with a metal cover with two sets of slots cut into it so it can focus the beam more. Since there is only one signal wire coming from the cas that the ecu uses im guessing it combines the two trigger window into something the computer can recognize. Also on this z32 cas i have one of the bushings knocked out from my early attempts to modify it so u can see how i did it. Did you happen to spin the z31 wheel around on the aem z32 wheel? if so did the home window line up with any of the trigger windows? From laying them on top of each other it looks like it only has to move a little bit and that much is definalty possible if your cas base plate can be modded like a rb or z32. Hope this helps
