  1. ya after finally seeing some pics and specs it seems i would only really need about 1- 1.25 in i think i would probably go 1.25 -1.5 just to push it out to the edge i hate wheels tucked up in the fenders which is my probablem i dont really know what to get to set the rims pretty much just like you have them - do you have any ideas the wheels are 17x7.5 witha 42mm offset im thinking 1.5 would do it right but im not quite sure
  2. those are for normal crossovers staying the same number of bolts 4 to 4 5 to 5 the 4 to 5s have to be 2in as they are 2 seperate 1in adapter to prevent hole overlap 279 for a st of 4 shipped where as the 4 to 4 is only around 150 for a set of 4 and i was looking at spending about $200 so i dont know if im gonna go 4 to 5 + 2in may stick out to far for me i think i only need 1.5 or 1.75 o well
  3. thanks tory is that about how they sit with them actully mounted and the car down or is it totatally diff - if you could throw some pics up tonight that would be awesome
  4. tory post some pics - and i dont know where you got your wheels but 99 cobras run 17x8 - the 99 cobras got the lamest wheel for cobras from factory but thats what i was thinking of getting was the 2in 4x114.3 to 5x114.3 - i want to see how far the rims and tires stick out
  5. im looking for a source for some adapters i would like to go from 4x114.3 to 5x114.3 so i can swap out rims and tires with some of my friend who have mustangs and have rims with slicks and track tires and stuff laying around and my other Z but i may just use 4x114.3 to 4x114.3 probably gonna need 2'' - if anyone has a source that would be great also looking for pics of s30's with aftermarket rims and adapters with rim, tire, and adapter specs as i would like to see where they sit with what size adapters im currently looking at some 17x7.5 Falken sceptors 42mm offset (stupid fwd garbage) any help would be great
  6. theres a bunch of notches but on both sides but i found one indent on top of the piston thats on every piston but only one side so that must be it the notch faces the front of the motor?? thanks bubbles
  7. allright perfect thats the way i figured the rod went thanks the pstion is the one im not sure
  8. well i searched and didnt find anything - this is my first engine build and its a 3.1 with l24rods with floating pins on standered ka24 pistons i know the pin in the piston is offset to stop thea slap garbage and the rod has to be a certian way for the oiler so now if im looking at the front of the block which way should the oiler be facing right or left? and should the short side of the piston be on the left or right? also according stonehinge i need to use a sealers on the rear main cap - what should this be just any regular permatex or dose it need to be somethign special?? also should i be using any certian kind or assembly lube or will anythign i pick up at a parts store be just fine?
  9. thanks i was planning on talking with the people over at rebello as they are just a drive down the road as far as hp goals im not compleatly sure - i would like to break the car into the 12s in the 1/4 - if i can hit 12.9999 all will be well as of right now im just using a n42 block with regular 9mm 240rod and regular ka24 pistons till i blow it up then ill probably look into some custom fordged junk i know compression is effected by cam but im currently looking at somewhere around 10.5:1 - 11:1 it will be going in a series 1 240 with early zx5spd and an open r200 3.54 which will be one of the first things changed probably over to a 3.70lsd but we shall see what happens with that as i think i would like 390s or maybe in the 410 area more but 3.70lsd is easier to come by the motor will be fed by tripple dellorto dhla 40s after all is set and tuned if i cant quite make my goal i plan to add a small direct port no2 system after some suspsion mods as far as head and cam im totally lost but am doing some research and getting oppions this is for all out performance and not to be daily driven any help is appriciated
  10. well the short block is done and now its head time what head do you guys recomend for what reason and what should i be looking for cam wise also where would you guys recomend getting the head worked i am looking for all out performance daily drivablity is no issue this is for a standard 3.1 fed by tripple dellort dhla that wants to go fast also what should my price range be? just rough estimate - i am also willing to ship the head off somewhere as i know there are a few guys that specialize in this stuff and i know rebello is fairly close by
  11. looking for piston rings for ka24e pistons 89mm for my L6 stroker should i be looking for any certian type should i call someplace up and get some special junk or do i just crusie ebay and find a few sets figured i would throw it over here as you guys play with the KA and could probbaly give me some recomendations
  12. ah great idea - that totally flew over my head - thanks
  13. i would clean it up and tune it up all to stock l28 specs then see what that gets you - your lope is probably from poor carb adjustment
  14. looking for piston rings for ka24e pistons 89mm for my stroker should i be looking for any certian type should i call someplace up and get some special junk or do i just crusie ebay and find a few sets
  15. ive got one waiting at a local shop for me to pick up tomorrow the motor wonte be ready to run with it for some time but ill let you know how it looks out of the box
  16. well i guess i wonte do it this time - after i blow this one up or build another ill take it to rebello and do forged junk along with other stuff like the knife edge - im not going for any crazy 500hp build right now - hopefully when i get a little older and have a bit more change to toss around
  17. ok well it sounds like it isnt gonna hurt much of anything if i dont do it and i had orignally planned on not doing it so i guess its not gonna happen - im just in a panic now that the machine shop actully has all my stuff - this is my first real motor build
  18. well they have done some l series work and when i first went ther ei talked to an older guy and he knew more about l series junk then i did they have just never done L stroker is knife edging not worth it then? or is it somethign i should do befor i get this pile all built
  19. here are the 2 clutches im looking at gripforce F1 racing stage 3 sprun 6 puck http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/F1-RACING-STAGE-3-CLUTCH-81-86-NISSAN-280ZX-300ZX-TURBO_W0QQitemZ150087757173QQihZ005QQcategoryZ33730QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem ACT heavy duty unsrpung 6 puck http://www.mach1car.com/Product.aspx?nav=4&p=NX2-HDR6-2 daily drivablitity is no issue wasting $150 bucks may be i am mainly looking at the ACT as my buddy has a act unsprung 4 puck in is to be turboed saturn and its awesome - very quick smooth shifts and it grabs like no other what do you guys think - unsprung or sprung or dose it not really matter? i want a good clutch that im not gonna have to replace a bit front now and is gonna be able to handle a few additional add ons (probbaly looking to go with some no2 after everythign else is squared away) any recomendations?? im really looking more towards an unsprung 6 puck as i really just want the thing to grab - i dont want any fade in junk when i launch hard - but let me know what you guys think as im deff no expert clutch guy
  20. ya i normally search but i didt want to search through 57639836986 pages and read a book about it - i just wanted a nice simple answer in quick time like you provided - thanks
  21. what is knife edging and should i consider it for the stroker build is there anything else i should look into - ive got arp main studs and arp rod bolts comming in and new main and rod bearings and i have been stressing balance balance balance - there a good shop they have built a ton of race engines and they know what there doing though its mostly chevy v8 stuff but i dont fear the quality of the shop
  22. sweet ill use the n42 block and ill probbaly go with some sort of crane ignition because i have heard people having to replace there msd junk alot anything specuial i should have done with the crank or rods? besides balance? whats this knife edge i hear about?
  23. well i normally hang out over at zcar.com but i figured befor i do the real motor i should stop over here and get the real info first i have the crank some reg ka24 pistions and a set of 9mm l24 rods block? - i have an n42 laying around and some ppl say n42 is fine and others say must use F54 - well what is it? ive got the n42 sitting here bur i can go yank an f54 if needed? now i have gone over this at zcar but i just want to make sure im not missing anything - what exactly do i want to have the machine shop do? and i am sure i have most of them but post any site that has 3.1 build tips and instructions and what now so i can re go over everythign one last time the head and cam i am still unsure of any recomendations as for what i do have - 240mm clutch surface 10.5lb flywheel, triple dellorto 40s, unsprung 6 puck stage 3 clutch kit its going in a 70 which i have an early zx5spd in and a 3.54 r200 out back which i will swap over to a 3.70 lsd later on what do you recomend for ignition? i would like to autocross the car some - it will be draged and the main reason for the build is to take it out and see if i can smash on some mustangs and cameros and maybe an older vett if im lucky with an old strait 6 and just have all around fun with a low tq motor for burnouts and swining - day to day drivablility is no issue nor is gas milage - i also plan on adding a direct port no2 system after i get everything else all squared away i plan on taking the short block in next week of the week after if i need to get an F54 any info you can give me i will be happy to take
  24. ok is 12:1 a streetable engine - not as daily driver but occassionanly i am gonna want to take it out and cruise the strip and maybe waste some stupid hondas or maybe even a stang or 2 what type of octane is needed as 91 is the highest i can get at the pump - i have heard about some tryc.... stuff you can buy at home depo that is some sort of super octane booster - or what about going to the airport and buying a few gallons of air craft fue and mixing it what type of octane would 11:1 and 10:1 requirer
