  1. First, congratulations on the new "Z"! Second and most important use the search function. There is more information here than you can shake a stick at, literally just about anything you can imagine you would want to do to the car. As far as rust goes these cars are magnets for the stuff. Off the top of my head I would say check the battery tray, frame rails, dog legs, rear fender arches, spare tire tub, and keep an eye out for bad repairs. As in almost all things electrical, use the KISS principal, start with the fuse and be carefull not to let out to much smoke. Post often and good luck!
  2. Thanks I knew I read it somewhere just could remember where. And in case there is any confusion this was meant as info about the vents. They were being sold on ebay, and I am in no way connected with their sales.
  3. Searched, but I'm not sure if I read it here or another "Z" site, but there was a disscussion about these vents (pic). For those interested they are being sold on ebay for $125 a pair.
  4. Don't know if you cared about door panels when you posted your question, but I submitted a Reply which addressed door panels. Sorry if this wasn't the info you were looking for. If you do care about door panels, I'm happy to provide more info and more pix -- just let me know.

  5. Does anyone know or have experiece with installing 280z panels in a 240z? I've used the search but can't find a specific answer. My problem is I have no panels from the 1/4 window aft. 280z panels seem to be more pentiful and from what I'm told are of thicker material. The panels appear to have the same contours as the 240, don't know about fit/texture.
  6. What about using one of those instant garages from PEPBOYS, Wally World, whatever? It's enclosed on all four side and top, just add a large tarp under the car . . . instant paint booth.
  7. Very nice and clean, paint really pops. I'm way jealous as I'm just getting started with my project, mechanicals first then . . .
  8. I haven't posted here much, but I have an issue about timing. At TDC, piston at the top, air blown past my thumb, and zero mark indicated. The problem is my dizzy rotor is pointing at the drivers seat not #1 cylinder. My #1&2 (exhaust/intake) cam lobes are pointing like a V not straight up like some report. If I rotate the engine so the rotor points to #1 cyl, the timing mark doesn't indicate. I want to assume the dizzy is off a tooth or so, but it's been awhile since I've done car maint. Oh yea, the car is a '71 240z, F54 block w/flat top pistons, E31 head, E46 intake, & a twin magnetic 280z dizzy. The engine has only been started 2x in 3-4 years, those being within the last 2 weeks. It will start and idle (sort of), but sounds very rough. The carbs are at 3 turns out, but are another issue on hold for now. The PO turned the vehicle over to me as is, but says the engine ran prior to shut down for several years. Any thoughts comments as to if I'm on the right track would be much appreciated.

    New

I have the opportunity to buy a '71 240Z, ported & rebuilt 2.8L fitted with flat top pistons (10.5/1 comp, can you say 100 octane) & fed by 2ea SU type carbs, MSD ignition, custom header/exhaust, Koni/Eibach adjustable suspension, ROH rims, reupholstered seats, new windshield. $1400. Originally wanted $3850 obviously for sentimental reasons, the car is in very rough condition, body is straight, interior as bad as you can inagine a neglected interior to be, all chasis seals gone, paint gone, some surface rust here and there. Deal, no deal?
