  1. Hey everyone, I was planning to do a chevy V8 swap in my 280z. However after reading into the SR20 swap slightly I am seriously considering this route. I'm looking for a write up or thread to read about what is required for this swap in terms of parts to buy and fabrication needed. Perhaps someone can just lay it all out as well. I'm wondering about: ECU hooking up sensors like the oxygen sensors and everything, are they needed when doing this swap? Parts such as the radiator, need a new one? can I re-use the 280z one? Is there a website about an SR20 swap? Can the drive shaft be made to work with an SR20 gearbox and 280z rear end? I don't plan to be undertaking this project for a while. I have a lot of research and planning to do. Thanks for any help
  2. Thanks for the info. I'm only planning on a t56 if I can get my friends otherwise I will probably look for something else.
  3. Alright, I have been lurking on this site for a while. I finally found a S30 in nice shape and I am planning to swap in a 350. My friend has one in his shop I can have, so one large part is out of the way. It's an older 350 however, he thinks it's an early 80's. The engine has a carb, which is fine with me. I order the JTR manual this morning. I have a '77 280z My goal is about 300 HP, the question is what tranny should I be looking for. I want to drive the car to work and around town, but be able to take it to the track once in a while. My friend and I get to the track maybe once or twice a month. From what I have found there seems to be conflict about the T5, my friend is swapping his Camaro to an auto and he said he'll sell me his t56 but I don't know how much yet or if it's a real option. I would prefer to stick with a manual transmission. What would you recommend for this car.
  4. I'm intending to build a 280zx turbo engine and put it into a 280z. I have been reading a lot of posts about using a z31 ecu and maf on a turbo zx engine. Well I was at the pick-n-pull in town today and they just got a z31 in. Is there anything that I would be smart to grab for my plans. Should I grab the ecu, wiring harness and maf? I am still in the research phases of this so I really don't know much but if I can get something now for cheap it'd be nice. I thought I read something about a z31 tranny on a l28et. I may be mistaken though. I know there is a z32 thread also. Any responses are GREATLY appreciated.
  5. Thanks for the reply, I had wondered about the fuel pump but wasn't sure. I'll do some more searching on all the new stuff. Also what about suspension? Wouldn't you want something quite stiff to hold the back end, I mean a V8 is going to put the nose in the air a lot more than the 160hp v6. Think a good aftermarket coil-over kit would work with that? I don't know if the SS springs are stiff enough or not. Thanks again, off I go to more searching
  6. Well since I have finally paid off my daily driver, finished high school and have the summer to save up some money I decided I am going to do a v8 swap like I wanted to into my old 280zx I had. My dad however didn't feel this was a practicle car for Michigan, so I sold it for my 200sx. Anyways I'm planning on getting a z31 and I want to put a 302 in it. From what I have been reading about the swaps in the older Z's I need the following parts from the same car to do this: Engine ECU Wiring Harness Transmission Clutch Accessories(power steering, etc.) Does that sound right? Am I missing something? I've noticed that swapping a v8 in the z31 is somewhat new, let alone a SBF. I want to end up with somewhere between 300-400 HP. Does that seem reasonable to you guys? I still have tons of research to do but after looking through the forums the past 2 weeks I finally joined to start asking opinions.
