well guys i'm really confused now and lets see if we can get a bit of a debate going here. i'm told that dished pistons decrease c/r and therefore allow us to run more boost from the turbo. this is older thinging. nowadays there are not dished pistons in turbo charged cars. so why would someone whos doin a turbo conversion get dished if they could get flat tops that would survive the heat at a c/r of 9.5. i was talkin to brian from wiseco pistons and he said most ppl are running flat tops at a 9.5 c/r. so here's the question. to dish or not to dish?

hey i to turbo the n/a 82 280zx f/i. the head is a P79 and the upgrades that would be done are: megasquirt, 370cc injectors, pallnet fuel rail, hks intercooler(for higher psi). to turbo this do i need: 1. do i need a 2mm gasket to lower c/r 2. can i run the bottem end completely stock except for 87mm forged pistons(flat top) 3. should the turbo be oil cooled or water cooled...if oil do need a turbo oil pan? 4. do i need the turbo clutch or am i fine? 5. turbo means no headers correct? 6. they are circle exhaust ports so wut kinda turbo can i use? 7. can i use the na exhaust manifold for the turbo^^^ Thanks for any help
-
ok guys here is the realistic goal for my 280zx gimme some feed back or lemme know some other changes that i should make -head ported and polished -intake ported to 60mm and polished -cam kit from arizonazcar.com -forged 87mm pistons from arizonazcar.com -headers from black dragon(2" mandrel bent downpipe ceramic coated) -exhaust system from black dragon -240sx throttle body -Pallnet barb fuel rail -summit racing fuel pressure gauge and thats about it untill i get more money.

if your looking for car parts or body parts here's a little list of places you should definetly check out! http://www.zcarparts.com http://www.thezstore.com/ http://www.zparts.com/home.html http://www.zcarsource.com/carparts.htm I'm sure thats enough to start with:)
-
like beandip said there are no cars that are problem free for 350 so i agree check all the fluids, lines, breaks, you get what i mean. and in terms of mods what most of us guys do is a turbo swap. find a turbo engine if you can and transfer it into your Z. easiest way to turbo your car. if you source all the parts yourself it'll cost loads and wont be worth the time (believe me you'll be looking for half the parts of the turbo motor). or you could find aftermarket parts and do it that way. most guys do the megasquirt. search and ye shall find. good luck on your project and let us know whatcha do!
-
right now im in the same situation as you. what i'm doing is rebuilding my engine and i'll be puttin in a turbo... i figure i got time for it to sit, my licence dont come till about march next year:icon45:
-
thanks guys thats exactly the feedback i was looking for and dont worry i'm moving it into my garage soon enough (its in my grand-parents yard:rolleyesg ) the cam seems to be in fine shape so thats good news! well im sure the fuel pump itself is completly clogged same as the injectors like you said. is there a certain way i'm supposed to clean them out or do i have to replace them altogether.
-
well heres the problem, my dads old 82' 280ZX was parked in a field and left to rot for about 13 years, its sad but true. Now im going to see if i can bring it back but i dont know where to start. havnt tried starting because im afraid i might just blow the engine so if anyone knows where i should start or if i should just start the old thing let me know.

hey guys i have an 82 280ZX and i'm wondering what turbo kit i should use if i want numbers around 300. the engine is an L28E and everything is stock in it. I've searched hours and i couldnt find a full list of what parts are needed to do this or what kits are available to use. thanks in advance Steven

I need some help with my 1982 280zx. First, this car has been sitting outside abandoned for about 10 years and i dont have very much mechanical experiance. Its an L28E NA inside there and im hoping to get a turbo into it once its fixed. I'm wondering whether to fix the stock L28E or to buy and put in a L28ET. I searched all the forums and couldn't find any advice on this but if i missed it sorry about that.
