  1. Well, i read up on the JTR site... Apparently no matter what i do i can't use the 327 i have ... Maybe if i get a new aluminum 327 block i have been hearing about... it may not have the same markings, and would be lighter... maybe by the time i have to get my car smogged i will be able to get a 240Z...
  2. Hey, i was talking to a guy whom works at a local auto parts store... he is in the process of doing a v8 swap, (350 engine) into his 77 280z... he told me that the JTR manual explains how to pass smog with the v8, is this true?
  3. i'll just go with the 327... i already have it, it has been bored and rebuilt, ( a long time ago) and that way all i have to buy is the tranny and the neccessary stuff for the conversion.
  4. i was told that the JTR actually explains how to pass smog on later year cars today from a guy whom works at a local auto parts store and is in the process of doing the mod himself, into the same year cas as i am too... (77) I was just wondering because i dotn want to battle with these damned tree huggin hippeis in Cali. life sucks, wear a helmet.
  5. Hey, i was wondering if the v-8 conversion is reversible... I have a 327 engine, but i would like to know, if i have to go back to an l-28 engine, for any unforseen circumstances, is it possible to reverse the conversion?
  6. eh, well... it looks like i wont be done until next weekend. i decide to rebuild the engines before i put one of them back into the car. quick ponderment. are the pistons in a 77 engine dished? if i put them into the 81 engine.... and grabbed a p-90 head, could i turbocharge the engine safely then?
  7. well, going into day 3... not much fun, but i am really looking forward to the end results... i have a plan MWAHAHAHA. exuent.
  8. hey guys... I started the removal process of the engine out of my 77 280z at about 11 am yesterday... heh, with certain problems i still havent gotten it pulled... And i still have to pull the engine from an 81 zx, which then is going to go into my 77... ( i'm using the intake and such from the 77 on the 81 engine to avoid problems.) anyways...Just letting everyone know so far, that this is a real big pain in the ass, the whole engine removal thing. do youguys think i could get the engine mounts from autozone? just in case... also, just to confirm... there should be no problem, as in, i should have a straight forward bolt in with the 5 speed tranny on the 81 zx to the 77 z. correct? anyways. i am just kinda taking a break, i didnt work all night, but i woke at sunrise to get started again, cherry picker rental isnt cheap.
  9. whole car, minus engine? heh, i will take it.. do you think there is any way we could arrange to have it shipped? then i wouldnt have to wait untilmy next vacation to try to go and get it.
  10. Well, the engines are most definetly not for sale... I guess i will have to part out my 83 and take the parts and sell them... then buy a 73 Z... sell my 77 for a small profit, and do the swap, or i could just save more cash and get a newer v8.. but do they really have the same power and torque?
  11. well.... hmm, california sucks, doesnt it though? i want all that beautiful torque from the older engines... i guess i will have to hold off until i can aquire a 70-73 240. [ August 29, 2001: Message edited by: joeinCA ]
  12. hey. I recently picked up a stock 77 280z... the engien is not too bad, i think a ring just went south but... aside from that i want more power. I have a 67 327 engine sitting on a stand in my garage, and i have another 68 327 that is really nice sitting in an imoveable 57 bel air... so i want to use one of these engines... the problem for me is, of course, living in california. do you guys think i could pass smog with the v 8 in there? also, what smog equipment would need to be installed? thanks for your time...
