  1. I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions on where to take my drive shaft out of my 76 280 Z 2+2 to get it balanced. I am in West Lafayette, IN (Purdue University). I called a few places around here but most said that they didn't have the right set up for my job. Am I going to have to go all the way to Indianapolis to get this thing balanced?
  2. I'm thinking that it is my air flow meter. I have had a little trouble in the past. My mechanic said that there was a bad wire or something electrical wrong with it last time, but he is about 9 hours away now, so he can't look at it. I might have to call him up and ask exactly what was wrong with it. Did you have to replace your AFM... if you did, how much did it cost?
  3. I forgot to mention that it is a L28 and is fuel injected
  4. So here's my dilemma... I try to start my car and all it does is turn over, but it doesn't fire. It's turning over real strong. I can get it started if i spray carb cleaner into the intake, but that is only if the engine is cold. I can get it cranked and drive it somewhere and then turn it off, and try to crank it again it never fires... even if I shoot it with the carb cleaner. It's getting spark to the plugs and gas is flowing through the fuel filter. I don't know that much about engines, but a friend said that the plugs looked like the engine was running lean.
  5. Well I deserve a smack in the head. I got under the car today and the two bolts that attach the rear of the diff to the mustache bar were loose. I crawled under the car when I first started getting the noise, but I guess I didn't check those bolts. My self esteem has plummeted... thanks for the help guys. Kevin Rodgers
  6. That's a good suggestion. If its something that simple, then i deserve a good smack to the head
  7. I replaced the front diff mount when I got the diff rebuilt. I also replaced all the bushings for the mustache bar
  8. Hi everybody. I have 76 Datsun 280Z 2+2 with a 4 speed manuel with an R200 diff. When I let out on the clutch i hear a clunking noise, but it only makes the noise once. It sounds like there is a lot of play in the driveline somewhere, but there isn't when i check it by hand. The diff was rebuilt 6 months ago, the halfshafts have brand new u-joints installed, and just put in a brand new driveshaft. I have no idea what else could be the problem. A friend said that it could be the throw-out bearing, but I don't know if it would make that noise if it was going out. Thanks, Kevin Rodgers
  9. I want something pretty simple too. I just want a very small lip that is blended really well into the body. Something that would maybe look stock. Nothing too flashy, but I don't know which direction to go. I need to figure it out fast. I only have a few weeks to get the minor body work done and the car painted before I go back to school. I guess i could make my own out of glass but I haven't had much experience with it other than patch jobs. Thanks Rodgers
  10. Just like to say its great to finally have a place for the 2+2 crowd. I have a 76 2+2 and I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with rear spoilers. I saw a post earlier that someone used a coupe rear spoiler, but I have no idea what that looks like. I saw a Datsun a year or so ago that had a bre spoiler cut down to almost half the height and molded into the body, so I was wondering if that would be possible on a 2+2. Also, I know that the 2+2 is longer, but is it wider also and is the pitch on the hatch different also. Thanks Rodgers
