81280zx

it has 190k on it now. i just took it for a drive and it is bluish for sure. but it has very good power on it. pulls hard from idle to redline but the smoke only comes on at about 2k rpms to like 3,500 rpms then goes away. unless im just going quick and cant see it. from what i see it happens only at high rpms if it is floored. i hope its not a head gasket cant afford to rebuild right now so i was hoping for just the valve seals.

i had a fellow z member follow me the other day and he said that it smells rich and it looks white but could be alittle blueish smoke no one that has followed me has said it smells like coolent i had a car that the gasket blew on it and it smelled like coolent and it had alot of smoke when it blew. when its cold it smells really bad and sometimes it will smoke just alittle at idle but goes away quickly. how do i check the valve seals to see if they are shot?

the rad seems to be fine. It doesnt have coolent smell from the exhaust it smells like it is rich and its pushing out blk soot. If i drive it easy the car sees to be ok untill it gets to half thorttle and it starts its smelling and when its floored it smokes. The power seems to be decint for having 190k on it. but i have another z an 82 with 212k and it seems to have a better power band than this one to and its bone stock! Well i will consider changing the head gasket or just a total rebuild on it since i would be taking it mostly apart anyways. Thanks fo the comment keep them comming!

hey all i have a 81 280zx n/a and it smokes only when u hit the gas off idle and when floored and gives off a weird smell but at idle its ok and nothing and when cruzing nothing only when u need the power or its been sitting for a bit it will just when u take off but the rest of the time nothing. I was thinking maybe the valve stem seals are gone but wouldnt it smoke all the time then if they were shot? Let me know what u think thanks P.S. the smoke if white also

all i have is the blaster 2 coil and accel racing 8mm wires on it

i know this has probably be talked about before and i have searched and saw a few recomendations on this. I just wanted to know what u guys are gapping at. I have a l28 n/a with headers port and polished intake mani cold air intake and muffler. The chiltons manual i beleve it say between .39 and .42. thanks all for ur opinions

hey guys i found a msa header in the junkyard about a week ago and was woundering what are the pros and cons of the msa header thanks i am also putting the 60mm t/b on and port matching the mani and have a cold air intake on it also with a 2.25 muffler so far

how come people are also flipping the t/b over is it just so u dont half to have the spacer?

oh yeah forgot can i put the old tps on the t/b if i drill new holes for the screws or not

where is the peg at on the t/b and yes i do have the one with cruze control i think cause it has areas for 2 cables to be put on it

hey all i was woundering if u can use the stock linkage on a 8 280zx n/a insted of switching to the cable. i have searched and people have done the cable but wanted to know after i got the spacer if i can just use my stock linkage at all. thanks all

so if i dont need injectors then would the air flow meter from the turbo z help at all along with the pump and pressure regulator. i have searched for a bit and i really dont find anything that im looking for.

Hey all u guru's! I was woundering if this setup im thinking of would work on a n/a 280zx. I'm looking at the zxt injectors, fuel pump, mass air flow sensor. Or do i need to get them from different cars? If so what cars can i get them from and what year and if i need anything else to make it work.

i have a 5 speed in it and its starting to make noises in 1,2,3,5 so i was just trying to figure out what tranny would give me a good holeshot and top speed.

what kinda muffler do u guys recomend i see alot of u run magna flows or the ricer style muffler im trying to have it kinda quiet but a little noticeable when it is cruzin on the freeway but not to worried about how loud it is getting up to speed. sorry if this has been answered before im still looking at more threads about this. thanks exhaust gurus

hey i was wounderin what size pipe i should go with on a n/a 81 zx ive read some other threads but wounding what would go best with mine? i have a high flow cat, cold air intake and soon to have a header and port matched and polished head and intake. im not sure if this goes as a slightly modded motor or if it isn't thanks all

i have a problem with the tail lights staying on. i have a 81 280zx. im not sure if its the brake lights yet that are on or the parking lights i saw it when the battery was almost dead so that doesn't help at all. any input would help thanks

so in other words just get the basic stock replacements for it.

Hey all i found some solid engine mounts and i wanted to know what the benifits would be and the disadvantages of this moount or should i stay with the rubber style

could the timing chain be one thing i should change on the car since it has 189,990 miles on it and i dont know if it has ever been changed since new.
