  1. This was my first attempt at "reconditioning" a 1977 280z. When I got it, it was running though, so I didn't do alot to the engine other than upgrading the previously rebuilt 6 cyl, 4 speed. All the time and work that I spent on that car was time well spent. I spent all my awake hours thinking of ways I could upgrade and update it. To me it was cathartic. I am very new to working on cars and used this as a learning experience. This site has been worth its weight in gold! I changed everything in it from the brakes/suspension to the interior and paint. I spent about 2 years with all my spare time going into it. Sadly I sold it when I was in desperate need of money and am now acheing for another to while away the days. I think this time I am ready to try an engine swap though, and think I'll be going with a 350 SBC. (yup.... got the JTR book)
  2. So... in going back to autozone, I think that they had givin me calipers to an 86 toyota and not 79-84 calipers. I reordered them and hopefully they will turn up with the right ones. Must have been the wide ones. Just means the Z is again out of commision for a few days!!!!!!
  3. So, I'm in the process of upgrading the front brakes. Did all the research on here. Great site! But the new calipers seem like they are to big for the rotor? are they supposed to look like this? Did I get the "wide" version? All the pics I've seen of the calipers have the W beside the 8. There is a stamp on it but it looks like a triangle. If they are the wide version would it be easier for me to change the rotors to 300zx rotors or just bring them back and search for "non-wide" versions? A little help goes a long way, and thanks in advance. chris
  4. If it's for sale I might be interested. Are they the calipers stamped s12+8 or the s12w? Rotors for sale aswell?
  5. Mabye a spoiler? Jsut don't like the MSA BRE spoilers, and since searching I haven't really found one that looks factory like I want.
  6. What Armand, no dragon stickers? No fart can muffler or lighting under the car either huh? Just kidding, but I do like the black shrome though that was suggested. I kinda just want to dress it up a little cause once I'm finished shaving the back I think that it'll look kinda plain you know, no bumper and all. Thanks for everyone's opinions.
  7. Just bought my first 280z about a 2 months ago. I have always wanted one since I've been in highschool but haven't been able to afford it until now. What I didn't realize is that buying the car was probably one of the cheaper things that I've done, restoring the car is killing me!!! So far I've switched out the suspension, upgraded to Tokico shocks and struts, changed bushings to poly-urethane, changed front rotors and want desperately to change back to rotors. So far this site has been my saving grace as I'm really not that mechanically inclined. (damn-it, wish I didn't listen to my friend in highschool and taken shop instead of freakin music!!!!) Anyway, a few weeks ago I saw that a father and son sold their project z on ebay. It was really gorgeus. Kinda like I'd like mine to eventually become. The auction has long since ended but they had the back tailight panel chromed. Or atleast painted chrome. It looked really cool. I kinda wanted everyones opinion on this. can you chrome plastic like that? And if you did paint it chrome, would it not tarnish almost instantly? I am in the process of shaving my rear panel now. It is a 77 280 btw. Also through searching I've found Globerunner513's car. At his age I wish I had half his talent! Makes me sick! But seriously he does have a great lookin car. Anyway, I'll post pics of my progress soon, just wanted ppl's opinion and to try my first post.
