I still prefer to have a bumper on it. It looks ok, bumperless, but I think it looks better with the bumper and an airdam.
-
I would leave the AFM alone and check the temp sensor that is mounted in the thermostat housing. If it goes bad the ECU thinks the engine is cold all the time and dumps more fuel into the motor, causing it to backfire and stumble.

i want to see more pictures of this car.. it looks damn good!!
Thanks!

the car that ran before me spun and whiped out a bunch of cones... I got waived off so they could re-set the cones.. I got a re-run but it didn't get recorded.
Sounds like me at the ZCCA Convention last year in Dallas. I.........uh, over corrected coming out of a tight turn and ended up sending cones flying with the ass end of my ZX! I got a trophy for "Most cones taken out."

would ZG fenders for a 240z fit on a 280zx? if not does anyone know where to find 280zx flares? i cant find em anywhere
If you can find them, there's always the IMSA Style flares.

I found some pics of te old IMSA days of racing 280ZX's. Thought it would be fun for everyone to post up pics of ZX's racing. Wether yours or someone elses.

too bad Nissan discontinued the wing a couple years ago, and sold off their inventory.... there was a thread in the body kits and paint section when all this happened.
I managed to get one of the last OEM wings to replace mine wich had been RIPPED off the car before I could take it home from the junkyard...
I think the thread names a company that makes a fiberglass reproduction of the wing though if anyone's interested
This one from MSA is similar.

The following is from the The Z Car Home Page.
"The 1979 DATSUN 280ZXR Contributed to the Z Car Home Page
by: Carl Beck, IZCC #260
(as of 24 Mar. 98)
The Special Edition 280ZXR
was limited in production to only
1000 units. They are very rare today indeed!
This summary is intended to give you general information about these special edition cars.
If you own one of these Limited Edition 280ZX's, please contact me at: beck@becksystems.com
Or if you like, you may add it to our Register, at any time by clicking here
Pictured at right - the front of the 280ZXR had blue racing stripes on both sides of the hood and around the "power buldge".
INTRODUCTION:
The DATSUN 280 ZXR's were produced by the NISSAN Factory to homologate the large rear wing for racing. This car had to be manufactured in 1000 unit lots to meet the qualification requirements for "Production Class" status. Thus only 1000 were produced. The ZXR was a standard 280ZX coupe with blue stripes on a silver mist paint scheme. The factory registered special edition cost the new owner $399.00 extra.
The side strips shown in the picture below, were actually decals! Note also the large -R- designation after the ZX side emblem.
Here is a close up of that side emblem. Note also the two tone blue strips on a black backgound.
Pictured below is the large - Rear Wing - that this homologation special was all about.
280ZXR WING KIT - thats how it was listed in the DATSUN Competition Parts Catalog.
Here is what it said: Wing is made of molded rubber and is identical to the one used on SCCA and IMSA winning 280ZX's. Will generate over 370lbs of downforce at 100MPH. To counteract front end lift, an air dam should also be installed. Instructions, H/D deck lid struts and all mounting hardware included. Will NOT fit 2+2's and requires modification to clear rear wiper.

$49,900 OBO???????

Found these on Austin, Texas Craigslist.
-
MSA and Black Dragon both sell the Headlight covers for around $50 U.S.

I'll add my two cents.
My 83 280ZX(The bumpers are from an early model and were on the car when I got, but it is an 83.) Not much special about but I love it. It's got KYB struts and Eibach springs. 14"x 7" A.R.E's, custom 2.5" exhaust, Erebuni Air dam and a cheapo intake. That's about it for now, but it runs strong, the A/C works now, and It will be turbo eventually.
And I just thought I would post some pics of the hottest 280ZX I have personally laid my eyes on.

No rust and running for $800 is a smoking deal. Makes me want to drive to Vegas to steal it from you cause that's a sick deal!
-
Wow, What was nissan thinking when they did those bumpers,
Was that a safety issue?
Looks like the bumpers you expect to see on a volvo.
The big ass bumpers were due to the US Department of Transportation requiring all vehicles sold in the US after the 73 model year to have bumpers that could with stand a 5 MPH impact with no damage to the body of the vehicle, so Nissan was forced to add these huge, ugly bumpers, that had shock absorbers built in. They weigh a hundred pounds with the shocks, so I took all that crap off and pitched 'em. I just run bumperless with and MSA Aero II front air dam and nothing on the rear.

Have any still pics?
-
Nice! But what's a VP Commadore engine? Is that a V8?
-
For which years though. The 2+2 cars I recall seeing have the vertical line plastic type found on the 2 seaters in.... 83? I forget. Not really documentation on this kinda stuff, just gotta figure it out.
Oh that's right, I forgot they changed them on the 2+2 as well. I had a 79 2+2, that was my first Z and it had them, so I'd imagine 79-81.
-
Interesting B-Pillar covers.
That's one clean 2+2. I personally don't mind the large pics
It's a sunroof model too, don't see many of those. Is it a 79'?
Those are the stock 2+2 b pillar covers.

Wow I didn't realize their were so many nice looking
ZXs
out their I thought most people shunned them in favor of S30s. Here is a pic of mine:
I wish I had a more current picture of it (probably 6 months old) but my camera is out of batteries at the moment and I don't feel like driving to the store right now. Anyway now it has a nice crack in the
due to a 3" long chunk of
sticking out of a parking stop at a 7/11 and a whole bunch of paint chips due to a rather flaky paint job that is now quite old, oh well just an excuse to paint it again, what do you guys think? I would like white with two black or blue racing stripes or maybe solid black and tint the windows.
I think those wheels are nice and exspensive and it would look really good lowered.

Cozy, you should swing down to Austin sometime. We have a strong Z car community here and there is a lot more entertainment than in San Angelo.
Out of curiosity, why did you move to San Angelo?
