  1. Thanks ever so much for your input! I have to say I am amazed the moderators do such an outstanding job at this site and still have time to play with their toys. Thanks again! BOHNZII!
  2. Thanks for the info. I was hoping 60s would fit. 15 inch tires are right in there with flat heads and inner tubes---or so I am discovering.
  3. A friend of mine purchased these wheels from motorsport for his 71 Z but never used them. I bought them at a great deal and want to put them on my 74 Z. Can anyone tell me the largest tire I can mount on these wheels with no rubbing problems? My suspension is stock with no modifications. Has anyone out there used this wheel and what sizes front and rear did you use?
  4. Thanks for the Idea/info. I had a friend call a few minutes ago with the same suggestion. I've been putting this car together for the last eight years and at the moment of truth--- I go brain dead. I've played with 3 deuces in years past but never 2 quads. Basically a carburator is just a controlled fuel leak right?
  5. Would someone out there please share their knowledge and experience with two four barrel carbs? My Z has a 400 sbc with two Edelbrock 600's on a vintage Weiand low rise dual plane manifold. When I started it for the first time the engine sounded good and water temp never went over 180. But after less than 5 minutes idling at 1000 rpm the #8 header pipe started to glow red. I shut it off and let it cool off. I unhooked all vacuum lines to the carbs and capped them off at the carbs thinking a vacuum leak maybe was causing a lean fuel problem. I started the engine a secomd time and the same thing happened with water temp never going over 180. I shut it off and the engined dieseled to a stop. The heads have the proper steam holes for the 400 block and fuel pressure is set at 6 psi while running. Is it something as simple as opening the idle circuit screws a little more? Does it sound like that rear carb is too lean or do I have other issues? Any ideas, suggestions or recomendations would be greatly appreciated--thanks
  6. I'm not wealthy so my Z car project is taking a few years. And I'm almost illiterate about computers. So when I come to a point in my project where I need some help, this is the place. I don't come that often but when I do, it's great not to have some idiot insuating what an idiot I am for asking a stupid question. You guys keep up the GREAT work!
  7. I have an early 74 Z. In the JTR manual it says to install a 15K ohm resistor to the blue wire going to the tach. My question is: Does the 15K ohm resistor replace the existing resistor already in the blue wire or do I add the resistor and leave the old one there also? Thanks

    Shifter

Thanks for putting the photos on. That's exactly how I was hoping it would look. Thanks to everyone for your input.

    Shifter

GREAT! that's exactly what I was looking for. I needed some info before I laid out the hard cash for the right shifter. A picture is worth a thousand words. Can you email the photos or regular mail? I thank you for responding and if I can reciprocate in some way let me know! BOHNZII

    Shifter

I've come to a point in my project I hope some of you guys that have 'been there done that' can help me with. I have a th350 transmission in my Z and I need some info on which shifter to use. I have an early 74 that originaly had a manual transmission. I want to use the console that came in the car. The opening in the console is about 6.75 in. long and about 4.50 in. wide at the top tapering to about 3.50 in. at the bottom. If I plate the opening on the transmission tunnel closed is there a shifter that will fit in the console opening or am I looking at recessing down in the tunnel a bit to make something like a Hurst quarter stick work? Am I going to have to cut the console some? Any suggestions, info, ideas and input are much apreciated! Why reinvent the wheel if someone has already done it?
  11. I'm no authority, but mine lift the hatch by themselves as soon as give it a nudge.
  12. S&S makes a long tube block hugger header that fit my Z well. You'll have to put a dent in one primary tube to clear the steering rod but that's all I had to do. I used the JTR conversion kit. I think you can find them on the web using ss headers--They're in Arizona.
  13. Let me add my two cents worth. I'm new here but the grumps right. Always live by the old saying "bigger is not necessarily better". The old saying that brings more heated discussions is "there's no replacement for displacement".
  14. Thank all of you from the bottom of my heart. I've become so scepticle about posting anything at websites, I was expecting the worst. At most other sites I've been on,and not just Z car sites, I get some very cynical replies. This is without a doubt the best site ever I've landed at! Mike kZ, You hit the nail on the head with your paint scheme. I plan a dark blue with white stripes if I live long enough. I won't tell you my age but let's just say I,m putting an automatic in it to be a little easier on my arthritic knees. Again, RacerX, V8Zracer and Mike kZ thanks
  15. I,m sure some of you are familiar with the "Shelby stripes" that run from front to rear over the top of the car. Would someone give me a quick lesson in painting stripes? My 74 260 is now in Flat black epoxy primer and about ready to paint. Is a base coat/clear coat the best way to go? how do they make the edges where the different colors meet smooth togther without ridges? When we were married in 73 I had a 71 240. Now that the kids are raised I'm back to the Z car I've missed all these years. I have experience painting but not with stripes. Any tips, advice, or two cents worth from anybody would be much appreciated
