If this has been thoroughly covered before, feel free to delete this. However, I couldn't seem to find anything on the search for this. "AC" is only two letters long and so it won't even take that query.
I know there are members that have done this before. I even remember reading some posts, but like I said, I can't find anything now. SO . . .
What are your experiences with these kits or other options? I know Vintage Air has servo driven units. I don't want the hassle of the vacuum controlled systems. Has anyone used an aftermarket system like this or adapted one from another vehicle?
Thanks.

Looks good. Are you planning a hood scoop or are you leaving it open as is?

3 pages of this? THIS IS THE BEST THREAD EVER!

Having done a lot of welding on my project, fires are the rule, not the exception. A good set of lungs works on undercoating, etc. for little welding fires. If you are not welding bare metal, it is to be expected. Just don't be foolish enough to think it is safe. I have 3 fire extinguishers in my little 2 car garage, just in case something really lights up. Good advice.

Looking really good. We need a video!

My oil pressure does that too and goes higher as rpms go up. LS1's do tend to run higher oil pressure and temperature than previous generations.
-
Very nice. No revs? Maybe you can save that for the next video!

He was probably running your info through the computer. He didn't have you clocked but he probably was checking you out. I got out of a 70 in a 60 on a lonely toll road because he saw that I didn't have any tickets or warnings on my record and probably figured I wasn't a menace to society. He told me as much and gave me a warning.
On another note, I have a friend looking to sign on the Dallas Police Reserves so he can get a badge and a gun. He said he wants to ask for extra pairs of handcuffs, and if possible the whole shackle get up for his crazy out of control kids. He was joking of course, but there really are different sorts out there.

Congrats! That'll show the nay sayers. You are a master. I wish I had the eye/talent so that I could finish my project.
Not to bust anyones bubble but i have yet to see a datsun z win showoff. The older z is basically unheard of to most people on cardomain and they dont recieve alot of hits. Usually a more common vehicle becomes showoff like a "honda", "toyota" or "nissan".Although I did log on and vote for him!
See! I voted for the Texaco one as well. Keep voting! Maybe Terry will share the gas!
-
By the way, vote for the Texaco one. He is in 6th place for th '70's decade.

Registered so I could vote. Hope he wins!

Interesting discussion on this one. How do you guys feel about walking a batter? Or, maybe you just hit the batter with the ball and give him a base? The latter makes for better TV when the batter rushes the mound and the dugouts clear out to join the insanity.
I don't really have a point, just thinking out loud.

Didn't you know, owning a Volvo is better than a Ferrari
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/61689/volvo_kids/
I looked all over for the commercial that was just race footage and a volvo wagon flys by and it pauses and rewinds and then the caption says, "Yep, its a Volvo Wagon."

It looks like you are off to a good start. I don't see any holes in the floor. Is the metal compromised? POR-15 loves rust. Are you sure you need to replace them? Good luck either way.

I agree that it could be done. I have put in and out enough times on the stock tank to study it. I ended up rotating it in the stock tank almost 180 degrees since my tank is rotated too and I have no problems. The stock tank has a small flat circle area for the pump that would be similar to a cell.

Why wait? A couple of zip ties and you are ready to roll! I still have an orange juice jug as my radiator overflow tank.

That is what we were all doing before JCI kits for the LS1.
-
You guys are both confusing me. Kidi, the first time you ask about the $14K you were quoting 73DatsunZ from post#14 in post #26. Aux's total was $7K or so in post #20. Then you quote Aux from post #27 but you are still asking about 73DatsunZ's $14k figure. Go to page one and I think you can get a good total for each car. For what it is worth, I believe 73DatsunZ meant including the engine, but he has yet to respond.

Great. . . now that you pointed that out, he is going to have to stamp out another plate!

Unless you have had the experience, it is hard to imagine the excitement of those few moments when the beast comes alive! Congrats man. Very cool!

I did the '80's T-bird, swap, same basic rack as Mustang2 that all the hot rodders use with the stock Camaro pump. The racks can be had junkyard for $40 or new for about $200. Blueovalz had a nice writeup about his setup. There is also a Subaru rack and probably a few others that can be swapped in. Mine won't apply to JCI kits since I did not keep my crossmember stock.
I am surprised this site is still up. This was like 6 years ago that I did this.

Questions are fine. Just understand you are kind of getting the red carpet treatment here. Nobody has sent you back to the search engine yet.
Go here: http://www.hpsalvage.com/
Click on LT1/LS1 and read up on the motors. What was mentioned before about LS6 vs. LS2 is a displacement issue. You can basically turn an LS1 into an LS6 with a cam and heads, both are 5.7L. However, LS2 is 6.0L, LS3 6.2, and LS7 7.0L. So, mod for mod, there is no replacement for displacement.
But here, just bid on this and your problems will be solved. Maybe they have a low reserve. It is close enough you could probably pick it up. Then just zip tie a license plate on it and drive it home. I bet the cops wouldn't care. Its a project right?

eBay, or search for salvage vehicles. LS1 on eBay can be had for $2K-3K+, LS2 for $4K-5K+, and LS3 $8K-$10K+ roughly speaking. If you are not planning on going over 400 hp NA, you don't need the displacement and can use the saving for heads and cam etc. and still save $1000. I bought a Trans Am with salvage title and parted it out. $4500 before LS2 ever came out. Parted it out and so I have less than $2500 into my LS1. The best way to go in my opinion. If $2K+ more is not a big deal to you, go LS2.

It sounds like you are going to be driving this mostly on the street. If that is correct, I would echo what others have said about the LS1. I have an LS1 and I am running a much bigger tire than most here with LS1. I do have a 3.7:1 differential which may make a difference, but I can break the tires loose easily from just about any RPM in first and second without dropping the clutch. Granted, I have old rubber on there, but right now I am not looking for more power. I had a 100 shot nitrous kit and 273 heads that I had bought thinking about cam, heads, and nitrous but resold them on eBay because I was fine how it drives currently.
What I am saying is go cheap with LS1 and you can always do a cam/heads/reprogramming later if you are found wanting more. Now, if you can find as sweet deal on a larger displacement LSx, take it!
