  1. I was already planning on making frame rails. I'll look more into doing a tube frame especially since so much of the front end needs replacing anyway...
  2. I'm fairly good with a welder. I did all the welding on my truck (1984 Toyota W/ Chevy springs rear, 3 inch lift springs up front, flatbed, 33x12.5 ssr's etc etc) I feel pretty comfortable with it and I have access to a nice MIG. The only thing that scares me away from doing a tube frame is the suspension geometry part... dont want to mess that up...
  3. Thanks. Yeah I just didn't want to toss it aside and go for something nicer... Working on it is at least half the fun.... I just wish I could have more time to work on it :S Maybe this summer I can get something done on it. Its just sitting there taunting me right now... haha Will it be structurally strong enough to media blast on a rotisserie? One person I talked to said that I may have to replace the frame rails before i put it on one. He didn't see the car though. I just gave him a description over the phone.
  4. yeah, i was def going to have it blasted first... I just need some money first :S I will be reusing this shell as the back end is in great shape. The rear quarters are brand new and everything from the seats back on the floor is in great shape too. So its just the front that needs work. At least as far as i can tell now :S haha
  5. Alright well.... Finally had some time to get a reply with some close-ups of the rust.... Architecture has been keeping me super busy :S anyway here they are...
  6. I do have some close up shots of the worst rust... but I continue to forget to upload them I will remember one of these days... I was planning on having it blasted, but I'm pretty strapped for cash right now... So we'll have to see what I can afford... How much does blasting run? Could I just get specific areas done?
  7. So I finally get around to posting this... Work and my classes have kept me too busy to even post this. Over the summer I took a week off of work and my girlfriend and I tore into my z. Here are the photos. The tear down went well, but it looks like I have my work cut out for me now with the rust I found :S Where would the best place to start be? I was thinking the frame rails, but I'm not positive. The beginning Some progress, engine coming out The end. I have more photos of the progress and the rust on my harddrive at home Ill up load those later....
  8. Im looking at a little bit longer time frame than you are, I'm hoping to be done in 2 or 3 years depending on finances. But yeah I wish I could work year round on it.
  9. oh I know, college is waay too expensive. I wish mine was that cheap.... but i cant wait till this summer. Its gonna kill me to have to wait that long to work on it.
  10. Yep it definitely will be go time, I have a lot of stuff I want to do to this car, but I can't afford any of it yet... college is stealing all my money.... lol so it might come together a bit slower than I would like to see but it will get done.
  11. Thanks, yeah I really hope that there arent any suprises under the primer, its all probably coming off anyways, just to be sure. -lowrider, bummer about your car, saw that tonight. Really good that you weren't hurt! You'll get everything worked out, probably end up with a car you like better in the end, as you can change anything you didnt like about that one. I def know, as do many people on this site im sure, how easy it is to get attached to vehicles. So I'm sure its no fun.
  12. well the frame rails arent in the best of shape thats for sure, but I am probably going to use some rectangular tubing in place of them if they are too bad to be saved, the floor is far from pristine, and there is some rust up in front wheel wells. As well as some in the spare tire area. I wasnt expecting the car to be perfect, and I *think I should be able to handle what needs to be done. If not it will be a fun learning expierence, Seems like an excellent knowledge base here that has helped me out a couple times already.
  13. I picked this car up in May. This is my first experience with the z's and I'm really excited to get something done. Kinda made that I haven't had the Finances or the time to really get much accomplished. So what you see is pretty much how I bought it, aside from one important detail. I got it to run. Still needs a lil tweaking to smooth it out, but running rough is better then not at all. It also moves on its own, thanks to a new clutch slave and master cyl. Now next summer will come the underbody rust repair, and maybe some paint. But until then, its just going to have to sit no way for me to have it with me at school... a huge bummer. But this summer its crunch time, hopefully get it torn down to just the shell, but I've gotta drive it first! haha Comments welcome, thanks for looking, Adam
  14. Thank you, I will replace the fusible links and try it again, hopefully that will do it. This car is a wiring nightmare, nothing in the interior works... but that will get fixed later, I just want to drive it I will try bypassing the resistor once I get it to run well and see if it makes any difference at all, Right now I need to get it to run consistently. Thanks again!
