  1. You guys are right. I looked closer to find a boss that could be drilled for a dip stick tube. The hole for the pickup is not quite drilled all the way to the oil galley and the mounting holes aren't threaded. It must have been intended for use in a JDM Maxima. I thought the L24 block was used in the US cars but I'm pretty sure I saw a 280 engine in a Max at the jyard. Anyway thanks for the info!
  2. Very funny, here's the other F54 block
  3. This block I have been working on is different and can't find any reference to it. It has two oil pick up locations. The serial number is 755092. I got it as a long block so I don't know the donor vehicle. The other block I have is serial is 625766 that I pulled from a '82 zxt with AT and only the one oil pickup. All the other block features are the same. It must be for a car that used the F54 block but has a front sump. No big deal I can make a block off plate since it didn't come with one.
  4. The motor could be mounted above the diff parralel to it and bolted to the existing holes/studs in the diff itself. The drive could be a timing type belt similar to the Harley. This way the whole drive would move together and be isolated from the car. Number of teeth in the pulleys could be varied to determine the final drive ratio.
  5. Just found out this is already possible with the Transwarp 9 http://www.evsource.com/tls_motors.php The mag clutch between idea would probably not be strong enough for performace driving. I think the differential could be replaced with a 4-1 right angle spiral bevel gear box to one wheel that would save some more mass. I think the biggest burn on this project is the nearly $5k for the controller and cooler-wtf, there must be a cheaper way!
  6. You are an inspiration to us all. Since you don't need all the power all the time, how about 2 smaller motors inline (tandem)? One main motor with the booster motor in front of it connected with an electro magnetic clutch. Then a 2 speed overdrive on the main motor to the drive shaft. All on the same plain or common shaft. Main motor for cruisng in high gear and booster engaged in low for acceleration. Then maybe the savings in motor size would make the regen motors more reasonable. All could be controlled with a PLC.

    W24?

I saw a '82 Maxima in the j-yard and was wondering if anyone knew the internals on this engine. It was a W24 block with n47 head. I'm sure it is a 280 but what pistons are in it? The engine and bay are in all original status, wires, hoses, air cleaner. 112k on the od.
