Wow John, XJ15 isn't really my type... But the P4 is definitely my type and the price is great considering what you get.... $37k is less than we have in the GTO.. honestly though I do enjoy doing my own work. This engine is not modified much on the inside really yet. Of course the big chain driven oil pump is gone. The cams are currently stock 850 cams. The intakes have been extrudehoned and have larger throttlebodies. Of course there isn't a giant BMW alternator or A/C compressor or P/S pump on the engine anymore. Also the intake and exhaust is way less constricted.. Throw in a hotter ignition and everything a lot more programmable.......and I assume it's going to put a lot more power to the ground We're still talking about the "smoothness of the BMW v12" so what we post on modifying the engines ought to be useful to others here Chelle

Thanx John, your project sounds fun too - I'm thinking next maybe an Enzo replica.. I don't even like the Enzo all that much but do like the idea of annoying FNA I settled on the Electromotive.. all around I'm very happy with the choice. I'd love to have 12 individual throttlebodies, and may make a custom intake this winter if i'm not committed by then lol The covers are pretty simple to turn on lathe - just have to remember to cup out the backside to clear the ends of the cams. I'll likely make more when I get to starting the next project keep us informed how your build is coming Chelle

well, take some comfort in this, you wouldn't be able to fit that engine in the car anyway without dramatically re-engineering the chassis - longer wheelbase, modified floor, crossmember, firewall, and front strut towers.. the flat 12 is just too wide. I have personally measured one. Chelle

Here's a couple pictures from the first car show for the GTO .. sorry - no sound or video's yet... soon though Chelle

lol.. I think I can do the posting sound - maybe I'll do a short video clip soon. I have never posted/hosted video or audio so that may take a few days.. We took it to a show yesterday and had lots of fun I'll post a few shots as soon as I upload them Chelle

Thank you both neet thing is if someone is handy and has some decent tools the BMW V12 can be either an affordable swap or a downright scary expensive.... it all depends how you decide to do it Chelle

Well the car is cleaned up and ready for drives and shows Thought I'd post a few engine shots from yesterday as an update Chelle

If anyone wants one I am getting rid of one of my V12 BMW's.. Interior got soaked (it was my daily driver) so I'm getting rid of it. It has a clear title and I also have a parts car with perfect interior but if someone wants a V12 that absolutely runs to do an engine swap this is a good way to get one. I'm in Chicago area. e-mail me for the details Chelle

Well the Vette is a beauty, not mine though. It's owned by a local Vette nut I'm not sure how many others he has, but I know he also has a very clean ZR1 as well. Some really high dollar cars are in my area. A couple months ago there was also a alloy body cobra replica in the shop owned by a local racer here's a pic of it http://members.core.com/~sysadmin/personal/MORRIS0028.JPG Chelle

Sent ya a private reply with more suggestions on where to find an engine.. Chelle

Here's the engine with no pan,and stock pump removed. Here's the windage tray attached to the pan Pan sitting on bench Pan sitting on the engine, in some of these you will see the custom engine mounts we made. I made some changes and recessed the firewall to set the engine back further and lower.. Chelle

hiya, it uses a chain for timing and another chain to drive the oil pump. It has a front oil sump so you need to either make a custom crossmember for it to clear or you need to convert it to dry sump (that's what we did) Dry sump will add a LOT of money to the cost. Figure the pump is $800, tank is $400+, a few hundred for lines, filters, and brackets even if you make them yourself. The engine is pretty light and all aluminum, weighs less than a iron block chevy V8. here's some info clipped from previous posts here's a couple other pics.. Firse is a decent view of the engine next the new RonDavis radiator then with the filters and dry sump tank fitted, finally, a couple pics in the shop where you see it and a few others like a Grand Sport corvette replica behind the Vette is an insane Datsun with RB26DET..and the other side of the shop in the next pic is a 1000hp Harley that should do 228mph in the 1/4 mile it's more visible in last two We eliminated the distributors so had to make covers over the end of the cams where the stock dist. drives were. Made a new drive hub and mounting bracket for the drysump pump, and put in a new RonDavis radiator (which necessitated making a spacer to redirect the waterneck as the radiator now has both inlet and outlet on the left side).. here's a pair of pics of the changes to the front of the engine . The throttles are off and intakes taped shut in these pics as we are making some mods to them. Here's some images First one - wow.. looks too big! (but don't worry - it does fit) Here's the massive front sump: And here is why the pan needs to be so huge: With the pump out and tin bottom pan off, there's a lot of wasted space! Here's a dry sump external pump on Jay's Ultima Here is what he did to modify his oilpan. He sawed off the kicked out sides and made a flat pan.

The V12 BMW is a wonderfully smooth engine when running right it is almost turbinelike.. speaking from experience - we have a couple V12 bmw 750il's as well as the same engine in a 280z based ferrari replica. Their original commercial for the 750 had a coin balanced on it's edge on the engine as they revved it and it didn't fall over - and this is not hard to duplicate. and yes they are plentiful and cheap and will fit in a 280z... but it takes a lot of work to get it all in there and working. lol, well we did RHD just to be different - I had a Fairladyz a while back and like it Thanx for the compliment.. as far as adding the 3rd vent to the fender, some had three, I prefer the look of two... We might consider trading it for a TVR Tuscan T440R here's a couple other pics.. Firse is a decent view of the engine next the new RonDavis radiator then with the filters and dry sump tank fitted, finally, since you mentioned the Halibrand wheels - there's another car here running those - it really looks right on the Grand Sport corvettes behind the Vette is an insane Datsun with RB26DET..and the other side of the shop in the next pic is a 1000hp Harley that should do 228mph in the 1/4 mile it's more visible in last two

Smash, here's a couple pics of ours..

We had to deal with that... brought the paint shop the car with no glass, trim, or interior ... the ONLY things they were asked to mask and mask well, was the wheels and engine.. and we were forever cleaning red mist off the wheels and engine We've just been doing some detail work and some things on the engine. We eliminated the distributors so had to make covers over the end of the cams where the stock dist. drives were. Made a new drive hub and mounting bracket for the drysump pump, and put in a new RonDavis radiator (which necessitated making a spacer to redirect the waterneck as the radiator now has both inlet and outlet on the left side).. here's a pair of pics of the changes to the front of the engine . lol, hiya Glenn.... I feel your pain. We fit our V12 in pretty quickly, and have hundreds of hours in on all the little details it took to make the thing run.. Several large aluminum bricks were sacrificed (as well as entire weekends) making brackets for everything needed to make it work. Making the dry sump pump bracket and hub alone took like 3 days. how many hours did you spend on your headers? Chelle

Smash, as far as using a 2+2 to have the wheelbase right that is NOT the solution. The extra length is in the wrong place. It is in the doors/roof and instead needs to be longer between the firewall and the front wheels. If I was doing this again I would even have shortened the cab 2-3" and added that much more to the front framerails Who knows, I might do this again - but likely when I decide to make another car it's going to be something different - Haley loves the Vector, so maybe that or - just to annoy FNA, maybe an Enzo lol SpeedRacer and Bill and the rest here have some wonderful cars and are an invaluable treasure trove of knowlege. Keep asking questions, it's a lot cheaper than the alternative Chelle

Thanx Rob Some reason this site seems to have been removed from the filters at the base. I hadn't been able to log in here from the office for such a long time. Till they notice and block it again maybe I'll be able to post a bit.. Smash - yes, we are kinda insane, but it's a fun ride and worth the sacrifice. Doing all our own work we probably have $70k or so in ours. We redid the dash in ours and lately have just been tinkering with detail stuff like the door latches, a new radiator, and modifying the injection system.. I'll post some new pics sometime soon Chelle
