  1. Have not had much luck searching and finding threads on performance oil pans for our L6 motors, so went out on my own on this one and am currently building a higher capacity oil pan. Do enjoy quite a few track days in my old beater, have had good luck with current oil pan on tracks with long straights such as Road Atlanta, and tracks with some banking to them such as Daytona on a stock pan. However have had the inclination to do a pan ever since getting a LD28 Maxima pan when I pulled the crankshaft out.

This pan definitely has more capacity and with the "wings" has some metering to it when the oil sloshes from side to side. Looking at it to me seemed like it could be an improvement over stock. There are a couple of questions though such as the inside of the pan and the baffles, does anyone here have any suggestions on them or do they look good as they are?

  2. Keith, hope to see you there, took car out Saturday and ran with some Porsches and a viper this last Saturday ran pretty strong so good to go for Friday at Road Atlanta. Who else is going or am I only one representing the HYBRIDZ group?

  3. Just got my bottom end back from local machine shop, had been talking to Slovers a while back about doing my head but after reading your post I am very concerned about trusting his shop after reading your post.

Would you do business with them again?

PM'd you if you want to answer there.

  4. It is that time of year again to start making plans for the Z Nationals, great event last year, with a huge car show and awesome track day at Road Atlanta.

Hopefully Keith wont have any excuses not to attend this year.

Not sure if I might bring the 510 this year for something different at the car show, or bring the faithful Z to have fun with on the track.

    Let the smack talking begin!

  5. Not sure why the quote is not coming up, but referring to the comment about OP being irritating to someone for asking about pictures.

Any thought to the fact that this gentleman said he was currently deployed to Afghanistan, so it might be a little difficult to go crawl around a Z and analyze these spots your saying for him to study?

Thank you sir for serving our country.

  6. Did some searching and found several post's for similar issues but did not find specific answers so here goes and thanks for any answers that are given.

I have a old 72 240Z that I track when I have the opportunity the issue is it wont start, starter motor is not turning over.

Checked voltage at solenoid on small wire when ignition switch is at start position, no voltage

Checked voltage at black and yellow wire at starter switch when on start position and am getting 12 volts

There is a relay on passenger side under dash by the blower/fan motor, this relay clicks when turning ignition switch on and to start position White and red wire has constant 12 volt supply and then the other wires have power when ignition switch is turned with exception of black wire. Looked up P/N for this relay 2530-E4100 and it was listed on the microfiche as a back window relay?

Looked at the factory Nissan wire diagrams and see that a relay is listed for a A/T car.

Took a screwdriver and went from positive terminal of starter from battery to small wire on solenoid and car started.

Just wanted to clarify couple of things:

If I put a ohm meter between BLK/YEL wire of ignition switch and starter should there be continuity or is there a relay between these two points that would show an open circuit?

Does the relay on the passenger side previously described play any part in this?

Once again thanks for any help tat you can give me, absolutely hopeless with electrical stuff

  7. Just took the 510 out to run it this year after being laid up for the last 3 years, went to turn over the motor and find that I get a 1/4 revolution on it and it is locked up on either side of the revolution. Guessing I have some valves also hanging up. First time I have ever had a issue with Datsun motor like this.

  8. Usually there are 4 mounting points on the engine stands, bolt these to the back of the engine block 2ea at the top of the flywheel (12 oclock position) the other two mounting points are on the side of the flywheel (3 & 9 oclock position).

You can use head bolts from L series or head bolts from a Honda civic motor if I remember right and then just use spacers and washers as needed.

    Good luck

  9. Are you aware that the Z seats are only fastened to the body with four small bolts through sheet metal?  The seat would simply rip out of its' attachment points in an accident. Note that  the Z seat belts are attached to the body with large bolts.

What ever seats and seat belts you decide on, use the stock attachment points.

Keep in mind that the seat has four attachment points where as the buckle for the seat belt has one! With that said the floor mounts are pretty thin use discretion in your final install

  10.

That is definitely the preferred failure mode.  Years ago, I had one fail by fracture (different set-up than I am currently running).  Not a pretty thing.

You can see the bent TC tube on the ground in front of the car.  It had fractured in the threaded portion adjacent to the attachment at the LCA.

    Remember it well!

  11. Toyo Proxes R888. Things hook like crazy. With a 245 wide tire it'll be hard to find anything. Your other choice is the nitto NT555R which is again another streetable track tire.

As for the Fuzions, they're crap. They perform more like an all season performance tire and they are labeled as a summer performance tire. They are cheap, I'll give em that.

With you on the R888 on my 3rd set used for track days, however think that a LS1 will definitely spin any tire in a 245 size without too much issue

Run Fuzions on my RSX Type S, for $70 a tire really nothing to complain about they are round plenty f grip for street driving and never squeal when pushed

  12. I went from the 1" to a 11/8" bar that I found at a wrecking yard, honestly felt no difference, car does roll a bit as pictured. But does feel very stable, and predictable. Have the old AZ springs with the Koni 1152 shocks in front and some Koni's that AZ Z Car was selling, urethane bushings all around. Power output is probably pretty low considering I have a 30+ year old wrecking yard motor in it. So sounds like advice JHM gave is in keeping with my set-up
