  1. When you say 'Replacements for CAS and dizzy can get expensive', do you mean with MS or stock?
  2. Sounds like stock is the way I want to go. Now, will an '82 harness off an l28et mate up with my '83 or should I find an '83 harness? Also, is the z31 ecu and maf just a plug'n play upgrade or do to have to mod/tune them based upon the rest of what you're running? By the way - thanks for the help everyone - this site is infinitely valuable.
  3. Thanks. I'll look into MegaSquirt a bit more closely. I'm wary to go throwing together a hodgepodge of electronics, that in the end, might limit the overall performance. I'm seriously not looking to make huge amounts of power (I've got an LT1 260z conversion that should sate power impluses). I'm more looking to have a 'good' 225-250, good thottle response, good idle, 'problem free' Z that is easily mangable on the street (and for my girlfriend to drive, as I won't let her drive the Lt1). And, as you can guess where all my money is going, I'm trying to do this on a budget.
  4. I've been searching the forums and have seen a lot of debate on wiring harnesses for doing a l28et swap into a 240z - the most notable seem to be keeping the 280zx harness and supplementing it with z31 bits, such as the ECU. Many people seem to be going with MegaSquirt, and then I've run across some swearing by hooking up a Ford v6 system. I've heard little on how these stack up next to eachother. Given that I'm now in the process of trying to figure out a harness, can anyone help me on the pros and cons of each, or inform me of other options? I'm looking go pretty much stock l28et, though do a custom innercooler, 240sx thottlebody - smaller stuff like that - I'm not shooting for anything over 250hp. Also, I read that the fuel tank from the 240z will need to be swaped out due to possible fuel cutoffs due to the higher pressure pump. Anyhow know if this is a necessity or something you can get away without doing? thanks -
  5. The hybrid forums are new to me, so hello all. Basically, I just lucked out and picked up a L28et out of an '83 for next to nothing. I've currently got a '73 240z that I can put it in, but seeing as I've already got a 260z that I've been doing an LT1 swap with which is sucking away all my money, if I do this one, I'm going to do it on a low budget. What are the recommended upgrades that I should do and, should I put in the extra 200 and get a t5 to go with it, or just swap on the 4speed that is in the car now? I don't have a wiring harness for the 280zx, but I have one off a 280z - would it work? Also, what are the ideal ECUs, etc. should I use? I've heard that some stuff off 300zx work well. Any help or ideas would be great.
  6. he assures me that its a turbo, because the owner took the existing t3/t4 off of it for another project. My main worry is, like you said, compression - I really don't feel like under taking an entirely new engine rebuilt project, after having done my existing l26 about two years ago. But, throwing money and time to the wind - what's a Z for if not for making it faster?
  7. forgive my igorance - but what does 'egr' stand for - thanks
  8. I came across a l28et through a friend - a body shop near him pulled this out of 240z to replace it with a v8. The owner of the shop says everything about the engine is fine, as far as he can tell - he drove it before he removed it. Got my friend to take these pitures for me. Basically, my question is, I can see the intake/injectors look to be custom, but beyond that, I don't really know what else might have been done to this -looking at the pictures, does anyone have any ideas? He's asking 600 for it, plus 200 to ship. Right now I'm running a stock l26 with early SU and I'm fairly happy - but this seems like it might be a pretty good deal. Doesn't come with turbo, but he will include the 5 speed with it. Thanks all -
  9. thanks - overall cost and ease of working are really the top priorities for me; I would like something quite a bit quicker than an L28, but I'm not looking to make a drag car and I would really like to stick with a nissan engine.
  10. I'm new to the Hybrid world of Zs. Having pushed my L28 about as far as I can go without turning it into a stroker, I am now trying to determine what my best bet if I end up doing a swap. I've always heard a lot about the rb26 but after a couple searches, I've noticed that they tend to run a good 2500 more than a vg30, with only a 30 hp difference. I was just wondering if anyone would be willing to outline the major selling points/drawbacks of each as they are generally understood. BTW - this is an amazing resourse and my apologies if this topic has been covered a lot before - thanks
