Hey just a quick update i know there are alot of pictures in this thread but when i was looking for z32 lsx modified sumps i could find ANY so to help anyone who is going to undertake this here are some more of the completed sump.
It may be modified in the future to have additional capacity.

that Autokraft pan that BRAAP has up here ^^^ gave me a ton of room. i have a few pics in my thread down here vvv
how deep is your pan? i already have a corvette pan and will be modding it. i want a fair bit of clearance for the sump as it will be tracked and driven hard.
i took my pan of today to look at the clearance side of things before i go chopping up my new pan. looks like im really not gonna be able to achieve a hell of alot with the windage tray in the way? the f body doesnt run it at the front would it matter that much if i didnt run it at all accept right near the back over the actual "sump" section?

Ok my fabricator is finally getting his ass into gear.....some time soon. so my freind is a sheet metal fabricator and he is going to do the sump for me. Now i want the engine sitting as low as possible. can I make the sump res almost on the crank scraper? this car will be tracked hard and have an accusump for reasurance? i want to know basically how low i can tell my freind to make the sump?
Here are pictures of a drift zed with a ls1 fitted it is turbo making over 550rwhp.

how did you/are you going to mount the gearbox are you going to use the stock mounting holes?? my motor/gearbox and all should be going to the fabricator soon to get everything put in place and just want to know what other people have done. thanks

sounds like a very interesting project you have going make sure you post up some pics??

Hey guys i have a z32 lsx project car and my dads nissan patrol rolled into the back of it. There has been significant damdge and stripping the car has revealed rust were the damage has occured.
My panel beater thinks that he will just hammer it out though i think its past the point of no repair and needs to be cut and welded to make it look and actually be structually strong? any advice greatly appreciated

Ok, I've done some searching and reading, and still trying to make a decision - and I'd like to hear from you guys what your thoughts are. In my previous post, I asked about inquiries of summit fuel cell vs. camaro tank, and I decided to stick with the fuel cell since it's already in place, already have plumbing set up and fuel pump. I can add a surge tank later.
Now, the next part is about fuel rails and feed to the motor. Here are some things I had questions about:
1. Should I opt for replacing the stock fuel rails with aftermarket units? Pro: would make everything easier. Con: more money
2. Does anyone have experience with these summit lsx fuel rails? They're $189
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-240050/
3. Does anyone have any experience with adapter/conversion fittings like these clicky here
These are designed to convert stock compression fittings on the stock rails to -6an feed.
4. Is it better to run a parallel or sequential setup for fuel rails? Do I run:
a. fuel pump -> fuel line -> pass side fuel rail -> fuel line to driver fuel rail-> return to FPR -> return to tank
b. fuel pump -> fuel line -> Y splitter -> 2 lines, 1 to each fuel rail, 2 lines return to FPR -> 1 line return to tank
Thanks!
Sweet cheers for the link for the adapters been thinking about how to solve this problem.

Hey everyone i have done some searching on the forum and read a few posts but there is nothing specifc for the z32-ls1 combo so this will be it! A very basic thread from stripping to the final product i will take picks and ask questions along the way. Here are the two harnesses
z32 alternator/Battery harness
1. Power to left handside of engine bay
2. Z32 original manual wiring harness (reverse, speed sensor...i think??)
3. Z32 alternator combo
4. Z32 starter connection
Ls1 alternator/Battery harness
1. This is the starter motor connection
2. This is the alternator connection combo
If there is anything to add/corrections please let me know. I would like someone with electrical knowledge to advise me on how to combine the two?? at the moment i am slightly confused on how to initially attack it?
Thanks

LOL!
Turbo + Displacement = Still no replacement for displacement!
Oh this is sooo true

Is this a kit that will have to cut the firewall???
-
hehehe well when you put it like that maybe not then lol. I will put it like this, i will try and get the engine sitting as far back and as low as possible without touching the suspension geometry ie lowering the rack because ideally i want it to be a street registered track car.
So i will be getting the pan modified, cutting and shutting the front part of the pan so it run really close to the windage tray and possibly extending the bottom section for a tad more capacity. i will post pics up when ive done it. should have this sitting in there soon!!!!
btw if had to move the clutch master cylinder so will be looking into floor mounted pedal boxes.
-
PICTURES!! engine still needs to be dropped 150mm and alot further back. opinions anyone?
My dad amazed by the amount of room!!
-
So i lowered it in today sorry thats theres not pics couldnt find the battery for the camera Because my zed is right hand drive it looks like I will definately have to move the clutch master cylinder. The sump will have to be cut significantly to fit in basically totally rebuild the sump. Someone really needs to develop a pan for this swap!!!!

Salivating....
Cheers mate. So i got a whole ls2 sump kit (supposed to have better baffling ecetera??) ive put the whole kit on but nothing is torque up yet as im pretty sure it will need to come of and be modified for sure. will post up some pics tonight. BTW took a quick look at the piston walls and general engine internals looks very tidy and am quite impressed.

If you are willing to go that route I have a build thread that my be of help. Just click the link in my sig.
Yeah you thread is awesome i love the turbo setup!! hopefully one day i can weld one up myself with ALOT of practice i guess lol. I picked up a brand new TR 6060 gearbox with remote shifter linkage. I am just cleaning up the engine as it is very dirty. I am going to make a big order from GM parts direct as there prices seem good?? any other places to sugest?
heres the box

The firewall will be getting cut up and moved back significantly.

There is good information on the thread below for an S30 but I don't know how that relates to the 300ZX (Z31 or Z32?). I imported an LS2 sump (pan) but they are now in Oz on the LS2 engines.

Here are some photos which highlight the differences. My donor was a 2005 VZ Ute.
Hey mate so i found the perfect engine and bought it! has mafless tune, cam and textralia z grip button clutch that is nearly brand new.
Now i have found this pan and pickup for sale. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ls1-ls2-L98-L76-gen3-gen4-alloy-sump_W0QQitemZ220349624089QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item220349624089&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
Does anyone think i should not purchase this?? It looks like the correct sump to me. ive done a few measurements it looks like it will fit maybe with a tiny bit of shaving. please any advice greatly appreciated.

That was a great read thanks! Its going in a z32 BTW. Just curious as to what wiring system you used?? I would like to retain the factory ls1 ecu in order to use ls1 edit. I really dont like the idea of the marine ecu's some companies use. .

Hey from Australia i have been approved to have a ls1/56 fitted to my zed. It will be sitting back as far as possible but im aware that people have trouble with the sump. Would a kicked out morroso sump avoid this issue?? I really dont want to mess with the cross member. any help greatly appreciated.

Head to vq30det.com great website heaps of info. need vg gearbox. and adapter plate with spigot bearing spacer.
Hi guys,What 5 speed manual gearbox can I use to run a VQ30DET in rear wheel drive.
What vehicle would the donor be from?
Are adapter plates required?
Any comment would be great.
Thanks

Hey I have google'd and searched but no luck. I am looking for pictures of turbos mounted in the old battery location. I remember a blue 240 or 260 with a vg30det in it which had the turbo mounted in this position.
Looking at putting a VQ30DET in my z32 though I want to use a large turbo like a t04z so I dnt think it will fit in the stock location and the battery bay seems big enough to accomadate it??
Any reccomendations appreciated
Thanks,

Hey mate i am looking at doing the same thing. In Perth, australia we have 2 drift cars and 1 drag car all pushing massive numbers on unopened engines. I was listning to the drift car below smashing the limiter the whole way around the track!! reliability is there i have seen it with my own eyes (not internet crud). This in a 180sx (240 in your country).
