  1. You must be talking about the pintle caps. The general word seems to be that they don't significantly affect anything if broken. Broken caps certainly wouldn't keep the injectors from injecting.

If the injectors have fuel pressure and they are energizing then fuel has to enter the head. Are you sure that the injectors are firing? People have been known to remove them, attach them to the fuel rail and place them in to containers, then crank the engine to verify fuel flow. It takes some work but if the engine runs with fuel added through a vacuum port or the throttle body then lack of fuel through the injectors is the obvious place to look.

You can also turn the key to On, connect a jumper wire to the coil (-) and tap it to ground to hear the injectors fire. Credit to Tony D for describing the method, the basics of why are described in the FSM. Basically you're telling the ECU that the coil has fired three times and the engine has made one revolution. I just tried it to be sure it works. Three sharp taps to ground and you can hear the injector solenoids. I have a 76 but the electronics are essentially the same as your 78. The wire from coil (-) to the ECU Pin 1 runs through the tach by the way. So the 280Zs won't run without the tach installed.

this is what I've done so far, pulled the rail and injectors but they have power and just arent pulsing open best I figure....

I was going to jump off the + of the battery since it's right there unless the current isn't stepped down before the injectors...

  2. As you all know I was having quite a time with the damn harness on my 78. The injectores are firing, it's in time and I have spark...

Now the question, Is there a small cap on the end of these injectors that has some function? Mine have deteriorated and the injector will deliver fuel when the needle houseing is depressed and the engine will fire when I throw gas into the head so any idea guys? Is it these simple caps?

  3. Yes it turns over but won't fire then promptly fries an ecm....

everything checks out as far as I can tell and I have the diagnostics. It seems as if it's just frying them some how for no logical reason.

The injectors are hitting, pull a cap and there's fire at the plug so I'm at a loss here fellas

  4. Everything has been tested, including the fusible links, I was under the assumption it wouldn't be elementary..

My question directly relates as to what can be frying theses ecms. It has spark, fuel and air and is in time. My question as originally stated is what may be frying these damn things before I go insane-r:lol

This ain't my fist rodeo, just my second but I'm tryin for a buckle guys... I'm about to say to hell with it and just get mega squirt and ditch this crap.

  5. I received two working ecm's off a member here on the site and just today got around to throwing one in there. Both are known good ecms and I'll be damned if I just didn't fry one.

I've got the test light out and can't get anything at the starter or relay and at a total loss as where to begin. I've read the endless accounts of this headache and have searched my butt off already.

Anyone care to point me in a direction as to why it may be frying the ecm's and where to start trouble shooting?

Thanks in advance for everyone's time and patience.

  6. just carbon fiber over the Stock lights was embarassing. Might as well have mounted Trailer lights on the back.

I had no idea they did that, I missed the first 30 minutes of it. I've always had a problem with those dang tails on such a curvy car. I search around all the time for round tail conversions and one-offs

  7. Whats with all the smack talk on the Datsuns? Those people ruined a perfectly good car. The red one wasn't that bad, kinda liked the tail lights wont lie.

I'll agree the show generally blew but I loved those tail lights also. Any of you guys have some info/tech on those, it would be appreciated :)

I'm a sucker for that original modded red one even if the paint was a bit off. Those guys had crap for prep time so you know both of those cars will look hideous in a couple months.

I'd be interested to see any of the paint jobs 6 months later that these overhaulin shows do. I am just a layman, but I thought those chemicals needed to evaporate before you put on your color?

  8. As I stated in my other thread the 77 was lifted last year so I have a completely stock car and am going through the suspension build again.

What I need are the vented calipers and maxima rear brackets to convert to disc and a set of tokicos, and coilovers. I'm not conforming to any set of race rules as this is merely a street bruiser so

if any of y'all have spares laying around I'm in the market so drop that PM or reply. As always any and all information is appreciated

  9. Hey OP I feel your pain. I'm really not that concerned with any of the aluminum LSx engines since the cost never sees to out weigh the benefits of going with the iron block... I would seriously consider the 5.3 and 6.0. That being said, the T 56 is always a problem cost wise. Like many others have stated the cheapest route seems to be waiting until somebody off loads one on LS1tech.com or searching craigs list for months for a deal. I had one in a 96 vette and I have to say I was not impressed with the shifting one bit. I will be taking a closer look at the TKO 600 because it's lighter, costs roughly the same, and from what I have read shifts smoother than the t56. Note that last comment is pure out of my ass since I have not thrown a single gear in one.

I also researched the T-45 out of late model muskrats that Keisler offers with a gm input shaft but the first gear seems too deep but if you were running a high rear gear it wouldn't be an issue IMO.

Good luck and post up what you find. I'm always pinching pennies and have never been a fan of purchasing any items I can't put my hands on.

  10. Yes I am sure. Everything else is fresh, new wires and plugs. Plenty of pressure and the previous owner had the same problem and confirmed today. The coil also has power.

The hotter it would get, the sooner it would not start. Sent back to motorsports and had a lose wire. As previously stated I am looking for a 78 computer, the one under the left foot.

  11. Looking for a computer off a 78 280Z. I have been having nothing but bad luck with the reman from motorsports and am just going to replace it. All info appreciated.

  12. I'm sure the Admins would like it if you donated :P , anyways I am not totally sure but if you get camber adjusting bushings you might not be able to adjust it as much as you could if you had camber plates, so you might want to research that. Also its been slow around here lately because summer time is here for us guys in the more "wintery states" and we have been on the forums and such all winter, time to work or take the car out. :D

I have researched, sent e-mails etc... I planned on donating, seriously! I've lurked over here since 2001 before I ever had a z :P

I planned on going adjustable lca front and back but being a working man and married, I have a budget as you can imagine :(

The honest truth is that a great deal of this info is scattered worse than my poor brain after 12 hrs of UV light...

  13. Good luck on the build. My DD since late 09 has been a Ninja 636. It's nice to have excessive amounts of power when you want.

Keep us all posted on your progress.

Thanks man and awesome avatar:lol I've been on GSXR's for the last two liters but I had a 600rr that was to be the track tramp so to speak...

I've sold off the last bike to pay for this build so we'll see how far 5 grand doesn't get me :P
