  1. Well, I havent even seen it yet, so I dont know what he has on the engine to back up what he is saying. Im sure he would go lower. But, he is willing to take payments. I have no need for the body, except for a couple lil things, but mostly need the motor. I dont know if the tranny is auto or manual. If its a 2+2 and a manual, the clutch is bigger. Mine is a 2 seater, than the clutch is smaller? If his is a auto and I wanna keep my tranny which is manual, it wont affect the mounting of the engine to my tranny. If none of that made since, if I take the motor out of a 2+2 and put a 2seater tranny on it, it will mount right up?

  2. Ok, Ive been thinking about selling my Z due to the fact of the horrible engine work that I paid for and got ripped off on. Well, the bottom end is going out on the motor.

Tonight, when I was leaving work some random guy walked up to me and started talking to me about my Z. He told me that he has a 83 280zx 2+2 that was smashed in the rear by a falling tree. He doesnt want to put anymore money into it and wants to see it go to someone who will put the parts to good use. I haven't seen his Z, but he says that he has a rebuilt port/polished and boared out with larger pistons with 20,000 miles on the motor. He also has a extra block with 800 dollars of machine work that he would give with the deal.

My Z is a 83 280zx coupe, the other plus to this is. Mine has a digital cluster and so does his. So everything except the body is a match! I have not seen the car yet, I will see it sometime this week. He said he will start the motor and everything for me and will take payments.

I think the Z gods are answering prayers today. What do you think?

  3. 1983 280zx GL 2 seater 24x,xxx, just had the head redone, exhaust system, digital cluster. Runs pretty well. It needs a new key made, I currently am bypassing it(no damage done), new shocks-very bouncy, has dents n both quarter panels- I have been told they can be pulled, distributor timing needs to be set- it is a lil off, and last it is leaking small amount of oil.

I also have a parts car that is a twin, same color except its auto and no digital cluster. Plus I have extra hoods, windows, seats and some smaller items for it.

I have it on craigslist for 2500 obo., but im mostly trying to trade for car with backs seats and 4cyl. just had baby.

Does this sound like 2500 is too much?

  4. When I start my Z if I tap on the gas pedal it putts and wants to die, about 2 min. of driving its fine, but I have a ticking noise and I notice a loss of HP, after driving for about 30 min. the ticking goes away.

Oh yeah, also when I park the car it smells kinda like a rotten egg almost like somethings burning(as if metal).

    Running too rich?

    Burned cat?

  5. Test drove it around the block full throtte and came home to check and I have no leak that I can see. Will check it in the morn.

Also my lifters are clicking. I have oil in it and they are still clicking, I might have to get them adjusted, but I did that 1 month ago. Should I already be doing them again?

  6. ok, the bolt that is broke off in the waterpump that goes through the timing cover. When I was taking off the waterpump and radiator I did have oil in the system. I believe that broken bolt is the reason for that. Well, I have to have the car running by Monday for work. I was wondering for a temp. fix if anyone knows of anything I can do to seal that hole? Like a sealent I can fill the hole that I would be able to fix later when I have the time to pull the timing cover. I could really use the input soon, I have to have everything put back by tomarrow. Thanks for reading.

  7. Ok, I got the head done and everything ran great. Until now....I noticed oil in the driveway. The blue circle is the bolt that broke off when the timing cover was put on, it runs through the waterpump and into the timing cover, I know this needs to be fixed. The red circle is where I noticed a hole for a bolt. Is there supposed to be one?

From what I was noticed with how the oil is leaking, I think it may be the seal for the main pully and crankshaft, I dont know what the seal is called. Any ideas?

  8. I cant find any picutres of it done to a 280zx, but it looks like it could be done. Ive seen it mostly done with the intercoolers with other cars. I also knew someone with a 86 300zx and it looks really clean. So I was wondering if anyone has any pics of a 280zx with a tilted radiator(where the top of the radiator is pointing at the front bumper)? I would really like to do this mod.

I have a l28 N/A. I think the open space would look nice and give me so much more room to work for future fixes. Thanks for reading.

  9. I have a 83 280zx N/A and I also have a parts car that is exactly the same. I noticed one day when I was messing with my motor, that I was able to turn the fan blade with my hand. So, I checked my parts car and the fan blade wont turn. Is there something wrong? I think with my fan turning while not running means my waterpump is bad?

  10. Ok, this is weird. In the 2 years ive own my Z (which has only been driven about 8 months of those 2 years). Ive never filled the gas tank on it. Well today I picked up my wife and we got gas and I filled up the Z and now that sqweek is gone. Is the pump a possibility? I dont think it would be, but ya never know..

  11. Well, this just started a couple days ago. I think it might be the bearing in my clutch. So, what its doing is.......when im in gear and on the gas pedal ever so lightly I start to hear a sqweeking noise and if I give it a lil bit more gas it stops. It sounds as if medal is rubbing. Kinda like when the heat shield for the exhaust pipe is loose. I havent found what it is.

Anyone have any idea's they can give me. Thanks for reading.
