Nicely done.

More likely alternator is dying. Mine was doing that before I replace alternator with 240sx alternator.

Frame rail looked intact. Collision on rear driver side. Doors, hatch, hood open close no problem with consistence gap distance. Sound like i am a sale man but owner willing to lower but my wife didnt allow me to have another Z. And also i dont have parking in my condo to park all my toys.

Just recently found a 75 280z car on CL locates in San Gabriel. I came in person to check it out.
Paint is not in good condition. However, car have all stock and comes with a 5 speeds. I wouldn't let it go if I can find out a way to stack all my toys. Owner said he want to part out, but car have no rust, battery tray, rocker panel rear and front, rear wheel well, frame all in good condition ( tap with screw drive). Just a dent in the rear driver side. Car come with top G nose but lower haft no where to be found. has G nose HL pocket. Owner is nice guy and he said he can help with the tow too. Price = 1k and negotiable .
Don't want this rare thing go to junk yard or part out . It is very rare to see a Z in this condition in San Gabriel area.
Admin: if i post in wrong place please move my post. Thank you.
PS: Car locates in Commercial ave, San Gabriel CA.
Owner number : 661 877 8752.

I would buy them in stamped steel. I have to always tell friends do not lean on my flare ( Fiber glass) , or it will crack.

I could be wrong, how about antenna switch? Mine has a switch on pass side to control antenna up and down, and could drain battery if it shorted.
-
Pretty basic, but have you checked your grounds? A corroded ground caused a myriad of problems on my 83, included sensitivity to load (voltage gauge would dance when the signals or wipers were going), overcharging at high RPM, eating through batteries and alternators, and eventually melting the fusible link box.
I did check my ground. My alternator is dying. I can hear whining sound, using stethoscope I know it from the alternator not the engine.

I know this is an old thread but I've recently done an 85 300zx alternator swap. The problem is it doesn't use the t plug but uses a newer nissan plug and although it seems to be ok I do not understand why with just a turn signal on I can hear my fuel pump change flow with the blinker. This symptom is what lead me to the think the alternator in the first place. I then followed the shop manual and found my alternator wasn't pushing enough volts out. Under the new system I get somewhere in the 13.7v across the battery when idling and I do get a jump in the amp meter then it goes back to just a titch above zero when cycling lights and other things. On top of the fuel pump I noticed the higher load I have the lower my idle. To the point it has died at stop lights. Now I understand the higher load buts more pull on the motor but isn't there a way to increase the idle while under load? Similar to when the ac is on? Or should I just adjust my idle to compensate? Also this is an almost completely stock 75 280z with the five wire voltage regulator. The fuel pump is aftermarket as well.
My 1975 have the same problems as yours. I could hear my pump change flow with the blinker , and died at stop light if I didn't rev the engine up enough.I have the 240sx 90 Amp alternator ready to swap in but my car is away from me at this moment, I will get it back next week and doing the swap and see if swapping new alternator will cure the problems.

You need to cut and make a pig tail connection for the L wire.
Here is the post from member in classiczcar:http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/electrical-s30/24161-240sx-alternator-swap.html

I just take a look at this old post and believe 83 ZX is external voltage regulator. Hence , they said no wiring mod for the swap for 83ZX .
so I take it as you already slice your VR then you can just bolt the 240sx one in there ( need pulley mod)
-
I am not quite sure but your Alt may not have internal regulator , correct me if I am wrong. I am going to swap the alt too but I will use 240sx 90AMP internal regulator. You can use a multimeter to test if your car current is in its range.

Fuel leak where I connect my fuel pressure gauge. Not a big deal I can tight it up. I left my car and using another car to drove back , not daring driving wife and me with car having fuel problem. I will go up there and see what happen. Thanks guy.
-
Do you think problem caused by my bad alternator? I am planning putin 240sx alternator this week. Fuel leak at the straps because i use the old ones. Thanks guys.
-
I have 1976 280z. I will try to do as you said. Thanks a lot.

I turned key to all the way off position and still hear my fuel pump humming, verified , FPG went all way to 42psi. Check afm flap all good. Limitted internet cant aearch more. Nothing swap or done recently beside a bad alternator , wont charge below 1500 rpm. Everything run good till now , have to take off battery post . pressure cause leak in my fuel line . Thanks

I will swap the alternator this weekend. Here is the link if any members choose to go that route.

I bought my 240sx alternator for $40 at junk yard and brought it to autozone to test = passed. Ola and see if I can mod the pulley.
-
I don't think anyone will take the pulley out of the alternator and sell that alone. And the 280zx alternator is pretty hard to find around my area. Anybody knows any alternative way to make the pulley that work for 240sx alternator?
-
My stock 280z alternator gave out soon since I heard all the noise and wouldn't charge if RPM below 1500. Found a thread about 1995 240sx alternator would fit in the z with some wiring modification. However, I couldn't find where I can find the pulley to swap it. Can someone tell me where I can find a pulley shop or auto shop that have pulley. I live in SoCal Los Angeles area but I always travel all the time from Santa Monica to Fontana. Thanks guy.

My friend at YLM junk yard has 1 . YLM located at next to Irwindale speed way. You can google it and give him a call.

AFM , or idle screw or , brake hose leak. Wires problems? AFM problem? All that can cause from a swap. I swap couple cars in life to now. Common problems is wire , when you putting new wire in your car . Should have keep the old one even it is rusty.

76 Ca 280z no sensor.
Cat light on dash..where is it? Never seen it in my life even newer cars.

^ good post.

This is weird, the blinker in my driver side is for the blinker and hazard light. My Z is 76 280z. I wonder if there is a difference.
Edited: My mistake, I mistake with ignition control unit which is on the pass side. Yes, the dual relay on the driver side for the fuel pump.

The dual relay on driver side control the blinker and hazard light.

Anybody has a busted 5 speeds trans for sale ( wide ratio ) . Local pick up prefer in solcal ( 626 - 714 and Victorville area)
I need some parts from the counter shaft to rebuild mine. The best is if you busted just the gear itself then it will be great.
If you have one already opened up, please show me some pic to be sure the part i want not busted or I end up with another 100 lbs junk in my garage. Thanks .
PS: if you have one good use 5 speeds for cheap ( around 300) I will take it. Thanks again.
