  1. Have a short in my 1972 240z... so my hazard lights and brake lights do not work. Other lights in that circuit work fine. I unscrewed the cap for the hazard switch and fed it back down throught the dashboard so I could get to it... now I can't get the switch back to its original space on the dash! Is it easier access if I remove the heater and radio section on hte console?
  2. OK thanks for the info... just a different feeling with an older car.
  3. I'm new the driving "older" cars (pre-fuel injection) and have some trouble starting my 72 Z in the morning. I let the fuel pump work for a minute, adjust the choke, then crank the engine, usually to just hear it crank. It takes two or three tries before the engine turns. Is this usual from a cold start with carbuerators? Once it gets going, it idles rough for a minute and then runs fine. It seems once it sits overnight and fuel sits still, the Z doesn't enjoy waking up. Thoughts? Is there something I'm missing or could do differently?
  4. I have a 72 240z... mostly still original, so I can't imagine this is an added switch (but who knows...) On the passenger side of the console, there is a black switch with 3 wires attached: blue/red, blue/yellow and green. The only electrical modifications I've noticed that have been done to the car was when the heater was removed by a previous owner. I flipped the switch several times and can't figure out what it's attached to. (I'm thinking it's a remote control for my neighbor's garagedoor opener.) I checked over my wiring diagram and can't find it. Any thoughts?
  5. Just got a '72 240Z - first time owner... car sat for a bout a year in previous owner's driveway. Ran new fuel lines and ran new wiring to the alternator and VROOM she started up immediately. While driving around this weekend (first time out) there is a noticeable "thump" in the rear end when I let go of the gas. Is this normal? There is no loss of engine power, no loss of steering control, no effect at all. Just a "thump". A friend used to have a 260 and said it did the same thing. Anyything to be concerned about?
  6. I just bought a '72 Z, had it towed to my house (loss of electrical power), and the back wheels won't spin at all - can't even push the car to a new location. The previous owner let the Z sit for about a year. I believe the parking brake was on the whole time. Is it possible the parking brake either rusted in place or is just stuck? Once I get the engine started, could I just use the engine power to move the car gently to another spot just a few feet away (for more convenient access) or would I risk damage to the axle? A friend suggested just removing the wheels and attacking the parking brake with a hammer to free it from rusting (if that's the case) I've never worked on brakes before, and am looking for a simple solution before having to tow it to a shop again. Is there another possibility why the back wheels won't turn?
