  2. Just wanted to make a quick update on the z!!! First i finally got my BRE spook/ airdam installed. I love how much more agressive it makes the car look. Next I repaired the cracked dash and got it back in the car. It was a fun little project Cut all the crack "moutains" level and did a quick bondo job... yea i know its cheap but im a broke single dad haha. So it will have to do till I save enough for a new one haha. Came out pretty decent looking. Also got my fender mirrors mounted on the fenders!!! Damaged my airdam but I gave it some stitches and it looks a lil tougher imo lol. This is how the vehicle currently sits. I put back on the driver fender cause the fiberglass one wouldnt line up flush with the door. and these are a couple pics of my flares mocked up ... I think they are just right! Install and cutting will begin in the morning. Any tips on the install would be awesome. Have a good one Hybrid Zers!
  3. Trying to get my BRE front airdam mounted but im have a lil bit of trouble mocking it up myself. Anybody know any tips or tricks that would help with the install? Thanks in advance guys.
  4. Hi everybody on HybridZ! I picked up my first Datsun about 3 months ago. It was in pretty bad shape, not running, and the interior was completely gutted. I Talked the seller down and got it for $1300 cash. . The motor is an L28e and it also has a 5 speed swap. It has SU carbs on her. I had to clean and balance them, clean the fuel tank and the dizzy shaft was installed 180 out. Got all that fixed and she started right up with a little fuel in the carbs. Suspension was done and would bottom out on a regular so I put some used, but much better, struts on her. The body is rust free and fairly straight with the excetion of the roof, a fender and the hood. Nothing a lil bit of elbow grease and some TLC wont take care of. Ive slowly been going through her replacing wat needs to be and re filling her with fresh fluids. Replaced the clutch kit, starter, spark plugs & wires, dizzy cap, K&N filter, 20w oil in the carbs, ngk copper plugs, new oil pan gasket and valve cover gasket, brake pads, bleeder screws, motor and transmission mounts, and bushings. With what little work ive done on her she has come back to life. it ran ok when i first got her up but now its like a totally different car and is so much more responsive! The brakes were a little tought at first but with a fresh bleeding of the system they came back. The car also would not go into gear so i had to adjust the clutch and it shifts smoothly now! It came with almost all its badging and the dash which was removed and cracked like crazy. I sanded down the "mountains" that the cracks had formed and leveled it off as best i could. did some bondo work on it and now i have a smooth dash that is at least presentable lol! Rattle canned the dash black, looks pretty good IMO. the wiring on the vehicle looked like a rat nest so i just took everything out rewired it myself and now i have my home made harness that works and didnt take long to make . I still have a decent amount of wiring left to do though. The tires were bald and had slow leaks to i had to replace em. I just picked up a set of wheels with tires and got a great deal on em so i threw it on some racing steelies. Looks nice and a little bit aggresive at the same time ! My plans for the vehicle as of now are to get my flares installed, my BRE air dam, and get a wing aswell. Coil overs, paint, interior, racing seats, carbon fiber hood, oil and tranny cooler installed and mounted. motor wise i just want a mild build. My goal is anything near 200-250hp to the wheels. I was thinking upgrade carbs, cam, pistons, valve train, headers, intake mani, dizzy and msd ignition. Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated! ... Now for some pics. This was the day i brought her home. started cleaning her up cause she was really dirty Here is the motor after I got it cleaned and polished up as best i could. You can see the wiring headache I had to deal with. Installed the straight fenders. Here it is with the new wheels. Bart racing steelies, 14x8. offset unkown As she sits now. I will upload some pics of the interior and with the air dam installed asap. Will update as often as I put work into her. Thanks for looking and have good one HybridZers!!!
  5. Thanks for the info guys. I got a FSM finally and that the reason i was able to start it. Im not too sure which dizzy im using. Ill look it up and try to figure it out. Wick Humble book has been ordered, very excited to get it. Now its time to post my car. Thank you guys for all the info and I really appreciate the literature your sharing with me. This is by far the best z forum with the quickest and most informed replies!
  6. ok so she is running and running great ... until i drive her for a while ... then she start to have a lack of power and hesitates when i first hit the gas... im thinking my coil pack is going... just wanted to see if u guys thought the same ... any and all input is greatly appreciated!!! thanks in advance
  7. THANKS TO DADDYDONUTS!!!! I got her running and back on the road... appaerantly the guy whom i purchased the z off had the shaft for the dizzy installed 180 and he had it running like that when i bought it lol... got it all back to normal and got to adjust everything in there to spec.... now shes running like a top... just sounds like she need a lil more gas on idle... thanks you guys for your thoughts and input.... i really appreciate it!!! this forum kicks A$$! good day
  8. where can i get the download for the fsm... im also not sure which manual to get ... im not sure wat year the motor came out of... i just know its l28e with su carbs and a 5 speed manual
  9. smh... ok my buddy told me to put it in there smh... ill get it as clean as possible and put the proper oil in it ... hope i didnt ruin my carbs
  10. this was how it was when it ran... kinda hard to follow the wires but it looks like its not set up the way it shoud be... could this be issue?
  11. well my battery needs a charge from trying to start it.. got drained... my ignition coil is getting really hot... like burn yourself if you touch it hot... and the little thing under it is cracked in half (looks ceramic has 2 prongs).... could this contribute to the problem?
  12. thanks for the reply...i checked my first plug for spark i figured one meant all... i will check them all now... and ill see about adjust the carbs as well
  13. ok first im sorry if i posted this in the wrong section ... im new to forums ... ive searched for a while on what it could be but im having no luck... the car ran fine before i parked it like 2 weeks ago... i had it in my garage doing a clutch replacement... never turned the motor counter clockwise or nothing like that did that and the oil pan gasket... the only thing i did to the motor besides the gasket was change the plug wires, spark plugs, and remove the intake (orange air box) from the carbs... one of the tubes on the intake(orange air box) that the hose from the carb to the intake(orange air box) was bent shut so i put a new one on ... now my car will not start... it turns over but wont start.... i get small backfired out of the exhaust... a couple from my carbs aswell ... i have checked for spark wich i have... put fuel in the carbs... i put the motor a tdc and it pointed to the number one plug... i know my firing order is correct 153624 and they are plugged in to the right cylinders... 123456 front being number 1 my plugs are gapped at .040 im at a loss ... any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! i havent put my intake box back on ... could that be part of the problem? im new to the z scene and new to carbs... ive been in subarus and nothing else .... please someone shed some light on this issue... THANKS IN ADVANCE
