  1. Posting to update and close out the thread. Yeah, the clutch was stuck to the flywheel because the car sat for so long. Got it loose and it shifts now. Thanks.
  2. This is just to close out the thread. Appreciate the post Hines, looks like it was stuck to the flywheel. I was able to start the car force it in first and drive a bit and it loosened and I was able to shift it. Thanks.
  3. It is literally one thing after the next, new problems found before the old problems have been fixed. Tried to start the car yesterday and lots of smoke. Figured it was because of the open headers but then I saw it was coming from the battery. The negative terminal MELTED. It was a new terminal and new battery. So got a new terminal and the car was still hesitating. Checked where the negative cable went to and it goes to the starter and that nut was loose. Managed to tighten it up, but there was almost no clearance to get a wrench in there. I finally got it running and going under the assumption it was the flywheel and clutch stuck together because the car sat so long, I got it into first then drove forward and it finally seemed to break loose. Drove it up and down the street and it shifted in all gears, but reverse grinded quite a bit. Also it has virtually no brakes. We noticed that yesterday that the master cylinder had no fluid so I added some and bled the front brakes as best I could by myself so I could limp it up and down the block and it was ok if I pumped it, but there's got to be a leak somewhere. Don't think the alternator is charging. My dad said it needed a connection to a light to show it's charging, so maybe that's tomorrow and that will be part 4, figure I'll lable these as I check off one fix. Battery terminals seemed pretty hot once the engine shut off and while the battery is in the stock location and that's next to the headers....I don't know if the terminals should get hot. Do they?
  4. Ok the "adjustment" I mentioned in my last post was not to the slave cylinder but the master cylinder at the clutch pedal. It looks like it was loose and after moving it as far as it would go out, it looked like the slave cylinder did move enough, but the clutch still didn't engage. Here's a video and is this right? Is that the right kind of travel? It's a camaro 5 speed, not sure the exact year, but figure early 80s model. Looks like its moving decently and my dad thinks that means the clutch is stuck to the flywheel. The car has been sitting for well over a year. Is that enough movement or should it go even further? Appreciate any help.
  5. Oh please no..... Supposedly the slave cylinder is new. Also my dad had heard you were supposed to replace the stock master cylinder with a "bigger" model so he did, but then he read you were supposed to use an even bigger one. Not sure the exact one, but it's the size just smaller than what people recommend. Something about 5/8 vs 3/4 and I think he went with 5/8. Could that have anything to do with it and is there any adjustment to the cable on the pedal?
  6. Hey folks, as I said, this is just the first of MANY posts begging for help. Hopefully I won't make too much of a nuisance of myself. As I said, I inherited this project from my dad and lots of things still need doing. It needs so many things, if I stop and think about it I'll never get it done so I'm trying to focus on one thing at at time. Now it's the clutch. The clutch won't engage, but supposedly it would when my dad first did the swap but only when it was almost all the way down. The engine is a 60s era 350 chevy and the transmission is a more modern 5 speed out of a 85 camaro. We bled the system the other day and nothing. He then said we could try and adjust a screw on the slave cylinder to get it to travel further and hopefully engage then. Here's a pic of the slave cylinder from top and bottom. Only see two bolts holding it together so is that adjuster accessible only when I remover the slave cylinder? I know my dad would know, but I only have access to his help on weekends and I want to do as much myself as I can. Appreciate any help.
  7. Sound should work. Yep folks that's the venerable 1st gen 350 chevy small block and the reason why it sounds good is because it has open headers. I seriously had to turn the mic's camera down by 70%. In person it was SUPER loud. Here's my flicker folder: http://www.flickr.com/photos/26576099@N07/ I just put 4 pics there. One is of the engine, one of the dash before and after pull out and the other is of the tach. Basically I was given this car as a "gift" from my father. On the plus side the car has a decent paint job and the engine, tranny, driveshaft swap is done. The negative is that NO gauges work and NO lights either. Also the clutch is down for some reason. Part of it is, when my dad did the swap, he put a master cylinder smaller than what people recommended. We've bled the system again and now I've got to jack the car up and try the clutch cable adjuster thing. While I'm not mechanically illiterate, I am far from an expert so my "epic" posts will also be major cries for help. I'll take a lot of pics and video so hopefully I'll be able to amass a decent record that people will be able to call back on for their own projects, but looking at the dash pics...this will probably turn into a cautionary tale. "Don't do it like CR did it."
  8. Sorry, haven't used vimeo before and didn't realise the video was privated. It's active now.
  9. Hows it going folks? I'm new to the boards and I'd like to say a quick hello and to start the first of what will become an EPIC series of posts documenting my upcoming "adventures" in the hybridz world. (Video is uploaded and public, it was private before.) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AOWQ80QT (For those that can't wait you can download the file here. When the vimeo link is active you'll be able to download it there also. It's only 9 meg and 14 seconds, but it's in 720p. Apologies for the dirt, it hasn't moved in a while and....keep your volume a bit low.) This is just a little preview of things to come. And to give you a hint at what's under the hood...well I did post this in this section didn't I? I had hoped to make a longer video but I want to start posting now and that's all I have right now and I've been working on the car for 3+hrs and I'm beat and time to hit the hay. Hopefully I'll have some more video or pics tomorrow. Hope you like it and talk to you again soon. CR (EDITED: Video link fixed)
