  1. i'm running an rb25det engine and would like to put a coilover setup for my '72 240z. most people are using this kind of setup Ground-Control coilovers with Tokico Illumina shocks and camber plates up front. are there any other coilover conversion available besides the GC setup? are silvia or skyline coilover possible even if my engine is an rb25? the shop owner said the engine might be difficult to put in if i use this kind of coilover. hope to get an answer fron the experts here thanks!

  2. U can but I believe the Silvia diff is a short nose r200 and the r200 out of a datsun is the long nose r200. You would have to modify everything to make it work. You can make it work though. I know I have read about doing the swap on this forum. Check in the driveline section

i'm checking it right now thanks :2thumbs:

  3. thanks for the info guys you are really a big help! LS1?? hehe i would love that sadly it's hard to find one here. if i'm going to import it custom taxes would really cost me an arm and leg(if you only knew corruption in our country).

so the cost of modifying the rb25 and l28et is almost the same? am i right? how bout the l24? how much hp can i get if i modify it? do you also have an idea what's the specs of star roads s30z? http://www.starroad.co.jp/home/fairlady_z/

  4. The head on the rb25de and the head on the rb25det are different.

The port sizes are different , smaller on the rb25de

Also the pistons are different as you would expect.

I would get an rb25det and put n/a pistons in and drive it for a bit if you really want to go for an rb25de and not a det.

what would you suggest? should i go for the turbo?

  5. If you are planning on changing the turbo for more performance i am assuming you will be using an aftermarket ECU,injectors, exhaust manifold, etc if this is the case you may be ahead money wise(the NA cams work fine with the turbo)

however if you are going a more budget build route it would be cheaper to start off with the turbo rb25 version....even if you do end up upgrading the turbo (garrett gt30r makes a good street turbo choice with the 0.82a/r turbine housing)

btw the NA does run higher comp which when turbod makes a very responsive street motor, however you have to limit the boost and timing to avoid detonation.

if that's the case i'll go for the rb25det. youll never know when to stop once you've started to upgrade the engine

  6. Although I am not an ezpert on the RB motors, I know that most engines have some major differences between their N/A and turbo assemblies. I'm sure the N/A RB will have a higher compression ratio and the turbo RB will most likely have dished pistons. Also, the Turbo model will have a specific grind for the cam shaft.

I would buy the turbo version because in the long run you will have saved more money, and have a stronger engine. You really want the one that is built for running a turbo, they were built to be boosted. Also, think what a pain it is going to be trying to find all the misc. turbo parts to adapt an N/A motor to turbo, thats just more $$$$ to spend.

    thanks for the info sir

  7. Haha, I'm impresssed somebody noticed! I just noticed it a couple days ago.

I wish I knew more about webpages so I could just build them on my computer and host them, but I always use these silly page builders. Im a little scared my current site will get wiped out in the same way. I still have all my build photos so it would be nice ot make one large site.

Ill prolly wait till I build another car though, this time Ill build it right the first time :)

to all those who are restoring their z and using 240hoke geocities site as reference, let's convince him to re post it or upload them again (to a diffrent webpage??). it will be a great help to everyone who enjoys looking at you're car built detail by detail. thank you sir and i hope you'll find the time to do it again:burnout:

  8. I believe the Geocities site got shut down/incorporated completely into yahoo, so a bunch of sites went down.

Here's another useful site that went down: http://www.geocities.com/Z_design_studio/

Anyone know the owner? It'd be great if he put it up somewhere else, the transmission calculator was very useful

i hope they won't shut it down my '72 240z is still not finished and i'm checking 240hoke geocitites site for tips on restoring my z. wish he will re-post it:(

  9. :-D The first picture is for the 240Z and the second one is for the 280Z. I prefer fiberglass over the other (urethane) for two reasons. First, it will not flex as much as the other (you will have to brace the urethane model to keep it from flexing) (check out this site for talk on the subject) at speeds. Second, I do body work and can fix it fairly easy when it is fiberglass. The model is pretty common for sale by most retail part stores that carry them. There is one other model out there that has a flat area to mount the plate on (its the one I have). I got my spoiler from Premier Products in CA, before it went out of business. Good Luck on choice, Rich.

    Thanks for the tip:-D.
