And mine is a 75 280z
-
I have almost completed the Saturn Vue electric assist steering in my 240Z, just waiting on the wiring kit from ebay Bruno, I had to cut and modify the steering shaft/pedal box to fit it in and then reinforce the box to stiffen it back up, the pics will explain it better then me. The unit weighs 14lbs and then add a couple more for bracing and a u joint, so far I have $144.00 in to it, looking forward to trying it out in parking maneuvers.

Holy crap, very very smart idea fitting it inside that box. I wish you could show some photos of how you cut and reinforced the steering box.
Also, what adapters for input/output and all that did you use? I'm about to start mine really soon.

Perfect. I thought so after I googled for saturn vue power steering issues. Shows that when power steering went out, it just was hard to drive.
-
Ah yea that is correct. First glance at that design made it look like the fail would cause a complete loss. It's still the worst design of the bunch because if the motor seized, as can happen with overheating, then you lose control.
So you're saying the saturn VUE is the worst design for this? as in it will lock up when overheated?

There are a number of posts about this already on HybridZ. I myself had it mounted on the engine side of the firewall and just fabbed up a new linkage. You get the controller of of eBay for the Saturn Vue motor, and attach a potentiometer to get variable assist. I got the idea from another member who did the same thing, and also sold a few setups so I know there are number of folks running it.
Have you guys gone autocrossing with this? I was told that you might not want to go this route in case it fails on something like autox. dangerous. I've been debating about this for a while. Gary Savage advised me to not go cheap and get the real deal.

Curious if the tunnel thing would be a problem for my ls1 280z. I know I had to bang out the tunnel for the reverse of the t56. -___- racking my brains out right now because i want these seats.
-
Please let me know if you have one lying around. Or if you have one from the junk yard.
-
Hey 280zcar, do you have a part number for the short feed and return lines you used for your tank?
-
Drone is almost inevitable with a dual system and no mufflers. However the note you get is just awesome. I have a true dual 3" system with an Xpipe and bullets at the very end (tips welded on the bullets) 3.5" would be tough to fit but it's possible. Your biggest issue will be wrapping it under the diff.
hey zguy, that might be what I will end up with. Your set up, except I want to use a dynomax xmuffler to help with drone. What you think? And instead of bullets, going to use the welded rounds.
-
Ah fudge... muffler guy can't bend 3.5. I might go dual to the dynomax x muffler to two dynomax 3 inch welded rounds.

Need help on how to wire the fbody tank to my 280z body. Including gauge wiring. I bought speedhut gauge for fuel.
Basically need to know how you guys wired your fuel tank to the ignition and ground. Photos of any kind are extremely welcome and alpreciated.
-
So i think i've decided on a single 3.5 to the
vibrant 3.5in/out resonator
to dynomax 3.5 muffler
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00029J38Y/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
and whatever folded tip i can get from the muffler shop. I'm hoping 3.5 will fit well under the s30 though....
Hopefully that'll sound right. I like the sound of the dynomax.
-
I have been listening to exhaust clips online. I'm liking magnaflo and dynomax. Mainly dynomax. Throaty, not raspy. I really hate the raspy sound. I'm not sure whether to do 3 inch collectors to a 3 inch y pipe to single out, or 3 inch collectors to 3.5 inch y pipe single through a resonator and a dynomax bullet. 3.5 from y collector out.
-
Socorob, if i remember right, you have a single 3inch?
-
So my build is coming to an end. Spare wheel well has been cut out for the f body fuel tank, gauges are ready to be installed. One last thing at the VERY VERY end, is the exhaust.
I've heard a lot of people go 3 inch. I'm wanting to learn towards 3.5 single from 3inch collectors to a 3.5 inch y pipe through a resonator and a muffler. I really really want to avoid drone. And i REALLY want to avoid having to do a true dual out setup.
Here's what I got so far.
4inch intake into stock ls1 from 2000 SS
sanderson block huggers from JTR, ceramic coated 3 inch collectors.
WANT TO GO TO 3.5 inch y pipe, to a resonator, and a muffler, then out.
What do you guys think? How would it fit under the s30 body? Am I looking for too much with a 3.5? ANY sound clips are welcome. I've been coming through youtube to find a good 3.5 inch exhaust note, but i've been seeing a lot of STATESMAN machines from australia.
PS, I want a smoother throaty sound than a cammed sound that seems to want to rip through the pipes. Maybe that has a lot to do with what tips? =T
-
Savage you still make these brackets?
-
Sent you an email with screen shot of my shopping cart. 5 gauges altogether.
-
Btw, it's all for an ls1 transplant with t56. Don't think that'll make a difference except the tach right?
-
I'm looking for 4.5" gps speedo and tach, and all 3 center 2 5/8. You do have a clock yeah? I'm going to customize now and get part #. I posted on speedhut's fb page and they replied saying they DO indeed have a sale usually for black Friday. Would your discount be on top of that too?
-
Is this the V8 grill or the V6? I heard they're inherently different.

Hello all. I just picked up a full brake upgrade set up from a guy on craigslist. s12w fronts, maxima rears, hawk pads all around. I was curious about the brake bias issue. Should I get a proportioning valve? Specifically for the maxima '88 I believe? Everything I got was brand new, came with new pads and rotors and master cylinder from 280zx.
-
i used fact. nissan master cylinder on my 83 280zx turbo with ls1 and t56 . bought clutch line from speedway and fitting from summit racing .
Domzs, what fittings and adapters did you purchase? I have a 83zx MC sitting around also. So I was curious if you could let me know what it is you used from ls1/t56 to your 83zx? I'm putting this into my 75 280z

I thinks I got it. Gates 21588 for upper. 22478 for lower???
-
I assume the confusion is coming from looking up the part number online and it saying "upper or lower hose", but since these are coming off another application that happens to work with the setup we have in our cars, it doesn't matter if it says upper or lower, just get the ones you need for your car. Does that make sense?
Savage, that makes sense. But when Socorob says "thats the one i used on the lower on a gto ls1", it gets confusing. I asked him about 2 different hoses, that's why. I don't know what "that" one is. To me, it wasn't so clear and concise.
Electric power steering. $100 > $1500
in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z

Socorob, regarding wiring, is it best to go directly to battery with a switch or relay? Or is it okay to do through the ignition column? I heard the old wiring won't be strong enough.
