  1. Ah I misunderstood. I thought the OP was staying around stock power levels. After looking at the swap links you provided, I still think it's going to cost the same (if not more) than the tried and true L / RB / LS swaps already done...

Hmm... Thinking about getting an Oddessy now :D  Interested to see how this turns out!

  2. I don't want to poo poo over your idea, as I admire the ambition and thought behind your swap. But if you're only going to be in the 200-270 range, why not just stick with the L28? You can get it in that range for not too much penny (which is the reason you wanted to go with the Honda vs the other Jap brands right?).

You can also get a clean VQ35 for ~700 with the added benefit of having other outfits like McKinney doing all of the fab work for you.

  3. 77 Datsun 280z

    Engine: 6.2 LS3 N/A (cammed)

    Transmission: T56 Magnum

Rear end ratio: 4.11:1 (R200H From an R34)

Additional info: Shorties, Borla ATAK mufflers

Observed fuel economy: 26mpg in 6th crusing at 70 (it's a shame I never drive it that slow...)

                                   ~18 in town

I had a turbo'd 5.3 LM7 in it prior and had roughly the same MPG.

  4. I'd grab a junkyard 5.3 for a few hundred bucks and pop the turbos on it. They are built like tanks and plentiful. The stock internals and heads will get you to 600 easy. I had that setup until I switched to an ls3.

Another thing to keep in mind is that with your hp/torque goals, you're going to have to upgrade your rear end. The diff may or may not hold up, but your stub axles and half shafts are going to shred to pieces. I had Wolf Creek CV's, Whitehead stubs, and an open r200 and they held up to the 600hp.

You'll need to convert the gas tank to EFI. If your caging the car, then you'd probably be more interested throwing in a fuel cell.

    Good luck with your build!!

  5. If its a 77, you shouldn't need to swap out the diff (it should have an R200 in it). The weak point will be the half shafts and stub axles.

A 350 will fit no problem. Not sure if the mounts will work, but GM has always been good about making their parts interchangeable. You'll need engine or boost management of some sort if you're going to turbo though (even with a carb). There is info in the v8 section for getting it installed, and I would head over to LS1tech for info on carb turbo setups.

  6. I grabbed a set of fiberglass fenders from a junkyard and they fit perfectly. (Even better than the original fenders IMO). The mounting holes had been cracked and damaged after removal, but wasn't that difficult to repair it. I've found that the junkyards in the northwest & northeast have a lot of fiberglass fenders... Probably because of the rain...

  7. I've got a cammed LS6 in mine. Don't know which Z you have, but an R200 diff will handle the torque perfectly fine. The weak point is the half shafts. I personally went with the Wolf Creek CV setup and the Techno Toy Tuning rear Wilwood brake conversion and they are fantastic (and relatively easy to install).
