  1. what are the ratings on the 2 different hoses you are talking about here? I bought some that was rated 50psi, and its being used from my pump to my damper, is this going to leak??? I guess ill have to get under there sometime and see what the ##s on it are
  2. I saw a thread once about the eclipse injectors and cant seem to find it now.. They seem to come pretty cheap so if you are looking for a new fuel rail anyways this is probably the best bet.. does anyone know if the Blue (1st gen) or Black (2nd gen) injectors from the eclipse turbo are any different in a Z setup? Ive read that the 2nd gen has a dual spray nozzle, but flows the same, its believed to have a better result with the 2nd gen eclipse dohc, but will this affect a z at all? Could I get either and they would be the same? this is my assumption I just dont want to "assume" I was interested in the RX7 Injectors but I do not know what years are considered the "early" and "late" injectors.. Id rather not have to modify them, or the intake to get them to fit proper. Anyone know those years? Thanks for anyones help in advance! Bryan

    E85

Sorry to bring this up from the dead, but has anyone considered or heard of a similar setup to what you are talking about in this thread, with the dual feul systems, but possibly doing some sort of Single point injection along with a normal fuel... something similar to a CFI system in the 80s mustangs etc. would you be able to put out enough ccs from only a few injectors? if so what would the possible boost gains be like with that? someone mentioned from 18 to 26 psi, running full E85, so im guessing the boost gains would be minimal and not worth it? this may have been covered already i was just thinking this might be an easier/cheaper mod, but would it be worth it... run some nitrous instead? hehe )
  4. Does your clear filter still have air inside it? Mine has and I thought it was normal, since the in and out hoses are smaller than the filter diameter.. Unlesss it was filled prior to installation of course.
  5. For those of you who think that it is not a common practice to install a filter before the pump, check this out: http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/fuel/g3filter/index.htm I have heard of many people doing this and its something I did to mine as well... Old cars... bad gas tanks... good idea! No tiny little "screen" is going to save your pump if your tank is pretty bad. Its going to get clogged, restrict your pump, overwork it, and burn it out faster. Also: Clear filters mean you can see that your gas is pumping, and how it looks, right out of the tank.
  6. Do you know where those threads are, ive been looking, I even pm'd Tony. I guess ill have to wait until I fully dissassemble the engine I to find out if this is possible, though I wanted to search for my parts before doing so..
  7. Ive been trying to find info on this but cant seem to locate it, Is a 3mm overbore safe for a turbo'd l28 with a n42 block? Here is my setup I am toying around with doing. N42 block P90a Head (why? because i already have one) LD28 crank L24 Rods KA24 Pistons (hence the 3mm overbore) 2mm gasket to lower estimated compression to 8.9:1 Is this safe with boost? Should I use different pistons/rods? If so which ones, I was toying around with the idea of the LZ24 pistons but im not sure of which will be the best for my setup, and those are alot more dished than the KA24. Possibly better for my turbo application? I could also use a STD or 1mm gasket with those if im correct? Brining my ratio to 8.09:1 (STD) and 8.25:1 (felpro/1mm) Hard to find info on people stroking/boring a l28 turbo, ive found tons of info from people with N/A engines and their setups, someone help please! Edit: I also heard from a previous post by I believe TonyD that the stock rods should be ok for a -400hp setup, what about the pistons? Im shooting for -400hp high torque. If the stock LZ or KA pistons wont hold up to 350ish hp, should I be looking for forged? Edit again: I heard from a good source found here:http://www2.zhome.com:81/rnt/L28conversion/3031FAQ.html , that the LD28 crank can be swapped into a l28 block fairly easily, with minor work, but he says nothing about the timing etc, I dont want to have to mess with my timing at all, with my N42 block p90a head, and ld28 crank am I going to have any issues setting up the timing, or will that be standard for any l series engine? ThanksBryan
  8. also, i am only asking because i may be able to get a p90a with hydraulics for very cheap, but i have a standard l28 from a 80 280zx that i am thinking of converting, would it be worth it to swap out the lifters from that engine? and if i do so, would i have to use the cam from the non turbo head? would that be optimal?
  9. Ive heard the differences, but which is better? I hear the hydraulic is better for reliability and wont need to be tuned as often? true? is this a good head to put on my l28 block (the hydraulic version) if im looking to go for the 250-350 hp range, nothing outrageous like 400+ I also read that its not good for 6k+ rpms, but I barely break 5k normally with my standard l28, am I really going to be doing much over 6 with a turbo head? Thanks for the help in advance. Bryan
  10. yeah I was watching the volts as I tried to start it, I saw a draw but not as low as I expected, I will try and turn it with a breaker bar and socket today, I didnt have a 1 1/16 socket to do it with. If it moves ill test the ignition system. I assumed with the new battery connections it wouldnt be that, but assuming is never a good thing with Z's. Im assuming the lady who sold it to me wasnt lying when she told me it ran 7 years ago, but that could be a bad assumtion too hah. So if it doesnt move ill move on to your EFI testing Daeron. Thanks for the info Daeron, much appreciated.
  11. I did also find this: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=84860 So before anyone screams that I need to use the "search" feature, I kind of found what I was looking for after numerous searches.
  12. yeah im going to try and get it running still, but it will not turn over as it is. I put a starter that I know works in, new battery cables, new plugs, wires, distributor, coil, etc. Wont turn, I hear a click, then nothing, im pretty sure the starter is trying to turn the flyweel but to no avail. the plugs had rust on the exterior of them, and the exhaust is very rusted, I am not sure if that is a sign of a bad headgasket or not, but i fear the worst. I am going to try and turn it manually tomorrow and see if it really is siezed or not.
  13. Before reading, if you have a link to a good L28 rebuild reference/thread, please post. Im specifically looking for information on a full L28 rebuild, or an L28->L28ET conversion. Ok so heres the story, I have a 81 280zx 2+2 running but in poor body condition. I got hit by someone turning right from the left lane while I was in the right lane.... yeah im pretty upset about it still.... but my entire left side is beyond repair Anyways, I aquired a 1980 280zx 2+2 for only $250 with a good body but im afraid the engine is seized from sitting since 02'.. am still letting it sit with penetrants and going to try and get it to turn in a few days. Since I think the engine is not going to turn im looking at my options. 1. rebuild the engine, but im getting alot of, just get a running engine, from others. 2. swap the engine from the wrecked into the new, only issue is, even though its wrecked, its still my daily driver, id like to avoid disabling it for now. 3. buy a running l28et and drop it in. My questions are If I choose to rebuild the engine, and want to convert it to a turbo, all I need is the p90 head, turbo, ecu, injectors? what else do I need? Can I use the pistons from my 80' L28? are they the best cost:performance option? considering I already have them. I know many people say this and get scolded for it, but what is the most I can do to modify the engine for performance with low cost? Should I over bore? how much? etc... I want to eventually swap in or rebuild a RB engine, so super power isnt so much of an issue, nor is how long this thing lasts. I want to get familiar with a turbo setup, and also modding/rebuilding an engine, while keeping most of the parts just modified stock. Never built an engine before but I think I am savvy enough to do so... tell me if im in over my head.
