  1. Thank you guys for the replays. I am ordering new wires for the front head lights, and I am working on a LED conversion (think GT-R tail lights) for my tail lights. I have used Rain-X before, and that stuff is crazy good (both for rain, and anti-fog). I have a buddy who is the manager for a tire shop, I will see what he can do for me. Thanks for the note on the weight. I will keep that in mind. Since my accident I have always driven 55 on the freeway when it rains. Thank you guys so much, This form is helpful. Anything else you guys think might help, I am all ears. Thank you all again.
  2. I am in the workings of doing the Honda windshield wiper motor swap(I was trying for the Mazda, but could not find a working one). I have brighter headlights but they are not HIDs. I just grab some rims I had laying around for my other Z that are wider (14x205x75). But is there anything else. Like adding more weight to the rear, (bricks, 45 pound weights, etc) That might help. Thank you guys. P.S. I really do not have the option to not drive it at all, since I have not cash to buy another car, due to the fact that I pay for college in cash. And they charged more for everything this year:fmad:.
  3. Hello, Well I have used the search function, and I can not find that much on rain safety with a Z. I have had a bad experience last February driving in the rain. I was driving, and it started to rain really hard (was a flash flood in that area), I was slowing down (speed was 65 MPH), and water and mug got under my rear tires (Tire size 16x265x60 I think), and I skid across 4 lanes then my car went under a 18 wheeler and was crushed with me in. I was lucky by that the wheels missed my head by a few inches. Since then I have driven my 4x4 Jeep when it rains, but It is gone now and all I have are my Zs. SO... How does one make a Z safer (in general, Saw a post, but did not have that much info) And How does one make their Z safer to drive in the rain. Anything you guys can tell me would be great. Thanks in advance. BigRedZ
  4. I am sorry for the miss understanding, my post was suppose to be sarcastic in a joking way. I realize I should of put that for you can tell how one is saying something on the forms. I did not mean to come off as a dick, though I can see how one can interpreted that way, I meant for my post to be a sarcastic response to yours. I understood what you meant, talking about having powerful computers on your car, just thought I would make some fun of it. Take care, BigRedZ
  5. Well if it was not then.... Why did you make a point of stating and just so we know it is not to be miss interpreted that you just used the word "Old School car Building", as I stated in the post before You also stated And more on the computers in cars with the statement. So if you were not responding to my post then you were making points no one else brought up, therefor you must of been posting in the wrong form talking about Old School Car Building and Advanced Computers, and about computer whiz bangery. The likely hood of all that falling in place would be astonishing and also vary sad, based off the fact that you can not remember what you are saying and where you are saying it. I hope that is not the case, and I hope you just wanted to look like you understood my point. Take care, BigRedZ
  6. You missed the point. Yes those are computing units, no that is not what I was talking about. Think 2008 BMW M5. It is a bad thing when someone buys a car, then comes to a networking center to have someone program their car so it will not have to be manually configured every time you start it. That is what I mean.
  7. Thank you. It is how I feel. I work on computers all day, and as a Net Admin, I do not want to be driving one. My 280z is my escape from computers. That is one reason why I love it so much (oh how I do love my Zs:2thumbs:).
  8. I will have to be replacing my wiper motor in the next 2 weeks or so (rain season in CA, not to bad, hell we wear shorts in winter:tongue:). I am thinking I will be making a video on this and post it on youtube. I have a few other videos I am working on with electrical items with the 280z that some of my buddies wanted me to make (I do not understand machanics, but I understand eltronics ). I think I am going to go with the mazda moter, and if that does not work, I can look for an accord one, but I shall see how it goes. I will post an update when I get the video up. Hope I can get it up soon. Just need to get paid so I can buy the motor.
  9. I also am one of the young guns. When it comes to cars I just listen. I do not know that much about how the mechanical aspect of cars work. I understand the concept of the engine, but do not understand how it all comes together to make the car go. One of the reasons I love my both my Zs is that it is a car I feel like I can work on them. It does not require me to have computer tools to tell me why my car will not start. It does not require me to have a load of specialty tools to I can work on it. It is an old school type of car. If you have a 200 peace tool set from Auto Zone, and the bravery to start taking things apart, You can start working on your Z. What I love about this is I leaterly learn something new about working on cars everyday (yes I do work on my car everyday, that can just be making sure all my bolts are on and are to proper torque. I have been on this form for about a year, and only have 3 post (including this one). If I have a question this is the first place I go. I look it up in the search and am on my way. I wish car makes would make cars, cars again, instead of gas powered computers. Did not mean to beat a dead cow, but I can say I love my 280Zs because they are cars. Quick, fun, little cars; and that is why I will try to always have a s30. Because, new cars just do not bring to the table what an older Z does. Just my little rant/story. BigRed. Word of the wise for young guns, like myself "Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something." Plato
  10. Well I got my break light problem all sorted out. I will give a quick run though. Before I start, I would just like to say that the first PO on this car did not know electronics for crap, and I have had to spend many hours sorting and taking out his crappy install of many electronics in the car. This is why I got the car so cheap. The owner of the car did not know car electronics ether, and had no clue why things in the car were the way there were. Good thing car electronics is really the only thing I really understand in cars. first thing I did was check the break switch. I unplugged it from the 2 leads that go to it (you can just unplug the leads, I just like to make things harder for myself ). I got the volt meter and checking it. When it first did it, i got nothing, but then tried it again and go the VM to jump. So I knew that was good. Then I looked at the wire diagram again and decided to follow the wires. inside my dash one fo the wires was unplug from a harness that the PO had in there before I bought the car from him. I uninstalled it and soldered the 2 wires back. Then I followed it to the fuse box. I never took a close look at it, but the PO had all the wrong types of fuses in there (SFE30), so I replaced all of them. Then from the fuse box, if followed the wire to the back tail lights. There were no breaks, nothing. so I check all the end points, and reset them in. At this point, I connected everything back, and they worked, but they just stayed on, I knew this was because the little pad on the brake arm was gone (ran into this problem with my other Z). I got a nickle and a dime and epoxy them to the brake arm. So now it works. Lest review what I just said. First check the brake switch, which can be located mid way on the brake arm. Check all the wires for any breaks, frayed, shorted, etc. Check the fuses Check the end points and reset them even in they look ok. If they come on and stay on check the pad on the brake arm, and if it need to be replace then epoxy a nickle and dime together then epoxy it to the brake arm. Hope this can help someone else that has this problem.
  11. Does any one have an update on this. I have this problem as well with my 77 280z. Any help would be appreciated. What I have done: Check the wire diagram. unplug the break switch to see if I can get them to say on all the time (nothing) Look for any physical damage of wire, ect. I have not gotten my volt meter out yet, but plan on that after I get back home. Thanks.
