  1. why is that? Im not very smart so maybe thats the problem
  2. i seriously cant even tell whats going on on this page here http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/260z/1974/1974%20Manual%20Electrical%20Diagram.pdf
  3. is that fsm posted for the 260z? This car is not stock. The motor is an l28 with su carbs and i believe it doesnt have points. I was not seeing any spark from the ignition coil(the black cylinder attached near the driver side front wheel).
  4. maybe im using the wrong terminology. The batter goes to the alternator and the alternator goes to the wiring harness which goes to the black cylinder which is the ignitor correct? that goes to the distributor and from the distribuor to the wires, wires to the spark plugs. Why cant I check to see if my ignitor is sending output by holding it to a piece of metal and looking for spark?
  5. So I disconnected the coil from the distributor and held it to the frame while i tried to start it and there is no spark. All the connections to the coil have not been tampered with and look correct. Any idea what would cause this to happen? Can i run some wire from the battery straight to the coil and see if I can start it or would this be a bad idea?
  6. I pulled a plug and attached a spark plug to it and tried to start it. I didnt see any spark at the spark plug. What do u think would be causing this? Everything was working prior to this adventure. I took the distributor cap off and it was pretty rusty inside. I tried to clean some off the rust off but it didnt seem to make a difference.
  7. just replaced the head gasket on my 260 but i cant get the car to start. Car was running fine before but now it just cranks. Made sure #1 cylinder was at tdc(the cylinder closest to the radiator) and I made sure the cam lobes on the same cylinder were pointing to 10 and 2. I made sure the little notches on the oil pump lined up and i primed it with oil. The distributor went in the 11:28 position. All my plugs are going counter clockwise 153642. I didnt really mess with the carbs. They were working fine before so i just put them back on. Fuel Is getting to the carbs. Idk what i did wrong but i did something wrong and id like to figure it out. Is there something im missing or is there a common spot where people mess up?
  8. lol smoking brakes does at a track sounds like a nightmare. So I would be replacing the brake pads and and rotors at the same time. Can I use the toyota rotors? If so, is there any benefit?
  9. "cheaper?" sure. Who's doing the work? What type of parts are you using? What are your power goals even? I clearly said if been working on the car. If I wasnt going to do the work then i wouldnt be asking about it. id just tell somebody to do it. I stated my power goals as well. If i knew exactly what parts im using then I wouldnt be asking this question in the first place. "None of us can answer your questions adequately, because you didn't provide enough information. This, despite said past efforts, shows that you have NOT done your homework." Other people seemed to answer the question with ease. I have done my homework "But it's the first thing they always want to do..." chimming in on someones thread just to say that they pretty much dont know what they are doing is being a smartass. You helped nobody in anyway with that post so why even post it. I do appreciate the following part where u talk about your own actual experience. Thats what I'm looking for so thank you. "Shed nominee, since searching is not his forte (everything asked is already copiously answered...) Asks for "OPINIONS" and then gets butthurt when HE GETS THEM! If money is tight, a performance sports car is not in your future." If you know where this has already been covered and its so easy for you to find then please link and help. As for the performance sports car is not in your future, well a 40 year z isnt what people call a performance sports car so ya i guess you are right but since im trying to build a car to my pleasing well ive done it before on the same budget
  10. can anybody feed more info then the typical search response. This is not covered on EVERYTHING ive read
  11. @cgsheen. Instead of making smart ass remarks that helps nobody why dont you throw in some info about your swap. Why did you choose to use the l28et
  12. I dont appreciate the assumptions and condescending tones
  13. your responses are irrelevant to my question but thanks I guess. I have taken that into consideration already. See comments: "My goals for this project(when/if it happens." and "I need to throw money into the rest of the car to support that power u know and if i have too much power ill be flying everywhere on the streets.". I never said i was only trying to turbo the car. the other stuff i already know how to do so thats why im not asking. What im asking is: " was wondering if it would be cheaper to switch my motor to fuel injected and turbo it or just buy an l28et. I know the l28et is a better motor but I like my motor and i also think i can do it in sections. By that i mean i can first make the car fuel injected, save up, and then turbo it. Have any of you personally done this or are familiar with someones work who did do it?" I hate the thread mentallity that people have where they think others don't search topics and that they know nothing. Ive searched prior to this in many different ways, but was unsuccessful. When you search l28 carb to efi you just motor swaps. Lets answer the original question FIRST then add our two cents about what we think about the approach and thought process
  14. your posts dont answer my question. ive alresdy read those. they say get new semi metallic brake pads and new rotors which is obvious. it doesnt say if they should be 260z rotors and brake pads or toyota 4x4 rotors and brakes pads.
