  1. Is this new starter spinning but not turning the motor over like the old one. Sounds like you got a bad rebuild. Take them both to get tested. Also just check the ring gear on the flywheel/flexplate to make sure there are teeth for the starter to engage.
  2. Finally got a chance to really work on the car. I found out that the old one has a copper washer between line and slave. It leaked down on me. The new line nor the new slave came with new washer. Anyway took it back aprt installed copper washer from the old slave. Then bled it down again. It was nice to get back on the road again. Didnt go anywhere to really open her up and hear that sweet sound but was a nice little drive none the less. Macambra that is exactely what I found rotten from battery acid and leaves and other junk just keeping everything nasty down in that area.
  3. Finally had a break in the weather and worked on the clutch problem. Like I said it was a catastophic failure. I had clutch one minute and the pedal stayed on the floor the next. The problem ended up being the metal line rotted and broke. I replaced the slave and rubber line along with about a foot of the steel line. I couldnt get the old rubber line to come off the old slave so replaced them both. Now I just have to finish bleeding it down. I got it working but not a hundred percent and the weather has turned back to the cold side again.
  4. Came home today and shifted into second gear no problem turning into driveway. Got to my parking spot clutch pedal stayed on the floor and wouldnt disengage. Luckily I was in neutral. So I shut off motor put in gear and drove around the parking lot to get in my parking spot straight. Still no clutch. Question is, has anyone had this type failure before? Is it possible that the line broke that goes from master to slave. Or has the slave failed. I am not in a place to lay on the frozen ground to look. I do know that the resovoir for the master is empty. So I am assuming catastrophic failure just unsure of which and how long it will take on the frozen ground.
  5. I am going to try doing that. The generic cherry bomb would be a cheap fix.

  7. I have seen these on the new Ford diesel trucks. Wondered if there is some validity to to this.
  8. Thanks for the replies. I think I will look into the pre muffler resonators and when I get into redoing the interior I will get some sound deadening materials in the cargo area to dampen the droning. At high way speeds the motor turns 2750 to 3k and that drone goes away and just the sweet sound of exaust. Its just the round town driving that needs help. Thanks again for the links.
  9. I have an 82 N/A. Love the exhaust note of my car. The sound is very european. I am not sure the brand of the muffler. Problem I have is at 2K the sound resonates into the car really bad. And it seems almost everywhere I go around town is around 2K. Is this a problem with the 280zx or is there a muffler that doesnt resonate so bad. Or should I invest in some sound deadening materials to quiet things in the cabin.
  10. been daily driving my 82zx. Lots of fun.

  12. What do I get for all the time I wasted reading your reponse. We all know there is a search but if it bothers you to answer then save yourself and dont. We come here to find answers and we all ask because someone has been there and done that. Thats what the forum is for. At some point you were a noob too. Why do people forget that.
  13. I am searching for info on swapping in a manual rack for the power one I have. I am trying to clean up the engine bay and one less belt is an easy way to do it. But what I have gathered is the racks are different. I have a 82 and there is no option for manual at the LPS. But I know that 79s had the option. Is it a bolt in or does it require fab work? If fab is there a manual rack anyone recommends.
  14. Here are the numbers I found. Chevy L6 194-250 cid 440 lbs Chevy small block V8 575 lbs with iron heads and intake Chevy small block V8 535 lbs with iron heads/alum intake I figured with an alum intake and a header that it should be real close in weight to the L28. With the added bonus of being almost twice the cubes.
  15. I have a motor sitting in my garage with no home in sight. Originally was going to put it in a 65 Chevelle but was thinking it might be a heck of a lot of fun in a Z. I found this post and thought it would work in my ZX. http://www.inliners.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=46408#Post46408
  16. This my 82. My first plans are to strip the body of all the chrome and make it all black. After that I will have figured out what to do with the interior.

  21. These clutches are very strong. They are used in 800+ hp dirt late model cars. My question is the streetabilty of it. Theres no slipping the clutch for an easy take off. They are on or off and they squeel but I am sure they used a different clutch material to address that.
