  1. Try not to be discouraged, you have a lot of supporters and followers, maybe more than you know! I for one am glad that you're still keeping at it when you can.
  2. Can you put your want ad somewhere else more appropriate?
  3. Sorry, I got caught up in my Centrifugal thoughts with "78 LS2 Z", no the LS9 has the roots style for sure.
  4. The boys at GM tried a Turbo in the '09 ZR1. The reason they didn't go with it is because they don't know how to build a turbo'd sports car. They burned it to the ground: http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews/chevrolet/0802_2009_chevrolet_corvette_zr1/index.html They just gave up on it and went with the easy way out with the super charger, probably because it seemed the safer route too since it didn't burn the car down either, a few liabilities there I'm sure. This argument between the Centrifugal S/C and Turbo is really a moot point since the Centrifugal is basically a belt driven turbo, the exhaust driven turbo could be sized to give a performance/power curve very nearly the same as the belt driven one with improved MPG's since there is less parasitic drag on the engine. The upshot of if GM HAD used a turbo set up would have been aftermarket tuneability, upsizing turbos etc. Now if GM had used a screw or roots style S/C, then there would be much more room for argument. Performance characteristics of Positive displacement Superchargers are worlds apart from Centrifugal.
  5. Just go with the LM7 or search a little harder for an L33 and buy one of those. You'll thank yourself for it later.
  6. Let me know how that electric power steering mod turns out, that's a cool adaptation. That could prove very handy!
  7. What dimensions do you need man? I'd be happy to measure my car for you. It's all stock. Are you looking for how much room the car has? I have '87 Turbo Seats so I could measure those, they fit pretty closely everywhere in the cabin.
  8. Just guessing here, I've never installed anything glass, but maybe you'll have to glass in some studs or some other mounts on the back side of your airdam in the areas you want to mount it in order to get it to fasten securely. Your project is looking good by the way.
  9. School's letting out, I'm looking forward to and update from you soon!
  10. Read these two threads, they should give you a good idea of what you're looking at getting into. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?/topic/73951-lsx-powered-z-32-go/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?showtopic=78369
  11. http://www.autokraft.org/products/ It comes with with everything pictured and you'll pay shipping to boot. You'll need an F-body dipstick and tube if you don't already have one. If you have a spacer on your oil pump like I did to use a double roller timing chain, you'll have to slot the mounting hole for the pick up tube since the pump spacer moves it forward a tad. In my opinion it's a pretty good solution. You can make the F-body oil pan work too. To use the F-body pan though you'll need to recess your engine/transmission closer to the firewall or create some clearance between the steering rack and the oil pan some other way.
  12. Autokraft rocks. The new Autokraft pan allows the engine to set a little bit lower in the engine bay without the sump hanging lower than the crossmember and that's about it. Can't really move it any further forward than I had it with the truck pan (not that it was going to be used anyway), just saying. It gives PLENTY of space between the pan and the crossmember and if you're brave you could lower the engine even more lowering the sump beyond the crossmember, but I'd save that for a track car. This will be my last mock-up type of update for a while folks since I'm changing what engine set up I'm using in this car. I'll still be using a 6.0L GenIII SBC engine with an Autokraft pan etc. Just going with the GTO eng/trans pullout as mentioned before. I hope this helps some folks!
  13. Yeah, I know of the 1sickZ guy's car, I've seen a few of the streetfire videos. Quick car! The Autokraft oil pan was supposed to ship out thursday, so hopefully I'll get some updates for everyone soon. Then it'll be a while before any new news from me most likely as I'll be finishing up the Jag and selling it to finish the Z!
  14. Still waiting on the Autokraft oil pan. I have nothing better to do than mock things up as best I can, so... Here are more pics of the engine pretty much fully dressed with the truck pan on. I have a set of TransDapt engine mounts on the engine, even with the engine setting farther forward the existing driver side chassis engine mount interferes with the alternator location using the Camaro accessory set up, the mount will have to be customized. There appears to be plenty of room for an A/C compressor though. Best part, there is plenty of hood clearance for the TBW! Downside, hoodlatch will have to go
  15. Also I thought since there were others doing LSx swaps in Z31's now too I'd include some of the research pics I have on file for possible headers to use. Enjoy!
  16. I picked up a blown B4C yesterday for cheap, so I decided I'd hook it up to my 4L65-E and take some mock up pics to see if the F-body oil pan would fit. Turns out it wouldn't fit in without hammering on the transmission tunnel and I didn't feel like doing that since I plan on staying with a manual transmission on this car. I then took the transmission off and tried fitting the engine down into the car to take pics for everyone. The F-Body pan looks like it could be made to work, but the engine would have to be set very far back, the closest head would be about 2-3/4" to 3" at most from the firewall and the driver side chassis motor mount would have to be either modified or eliminated to accommodate the F-body alternator location. I don't think the A/C compressor has any chance of fitting with the F-body brackets at all, but I'll check into it again later. But in the end, the Autokraft oil pan is the absolute best answer for this chassis. It is the perfect fit for this car.
  17. Hey thanks for keeping the thread alive guys. It's great to see others doing LSx swaps in Z31's too! Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but it's because I've been busy working on a way to get my Z going. I couldn't see ripping all the LQ9 truck parts off of my engine set up and having my computer retuned for a manual like I'd planned and letting all those "spare" parts go to waste, so I came up with a plan to use my complete pull-out LQ9 engine/harness etc with an automatic trans in another car as a swap to turn a buck and use the proceeds from that sale to pay for what I should have used in this Z to begin with... A complete pull-out LS2/M6 from a GTO or G8. It just makes more sense to go that route. This LQ9 now has a set of Comp Cams 918 valve springs, JLP Double Roller timing chain set, and a Comp Cams 224/224 - .581/.581 114 cam in it. Funny thing is, I was still able to use the C6 LS2 manifolds in this swap, just reversed. Here are pics of my LQ9/trans in it's new home, it's not quite done yet, but it'll be done soon. I just need a radiator, oil pan, and those various bits and pieces that all swaps involve. Make no mistake, My project 600zx has not died!!! This Jag is going to pay for finishing my Z the way I want!
  18. 523lbs with oil, manifolds, intake, water pump, and flywheel etc. Basically everything except the Harness, A/C compressor, Alternator, Power steering pump, Clutch fan, or accessory brackets. The Iron block engines add approximately 65lbs to the LSx package vs the Aluminum block versions. I've owned both, there is no great reason for the expense of the sleeved aluminum blocks IMO.
  19. Thanks for the update! Looks like you could definitely build an informative build thread now. My thread has been stale for a while due to lack of funds (Still unemployed). The only update I've got right now is a few replaced interior pieces. I have a question though, Did you ever swap your intake around for clearance or were you able to get your hood to clear without having to do that?
  20. Sorry for the super long delay. I ordered these LS2 C6 manifolds 6/28 and didn't get them until today due to a combination of backorder and the vendor shipping them to an old address, but they're finally here and mocked up. Driver Side: Looks bad.... Psych! Plenty of room for a kink! ha ha! Passenger Side: More cluttered... Must move fuel line. It's a minor update, but it makes me feel good to have SOMETHING to post up since I'm unemployed and all. Now I have to save for the transmission...
  21. A little history on how this started in Japan by Antonio Alvendia "For some reason, it has become some sort of trend for people to hang toys or other items of their cars' rear tow hook, but the origination of this trend came from the Bosozoku (street gangsters with fixed up cars) in Japan. It was a Bosozoku trend to hang a small tin bucket from their rear tow hook to show off how low their cars were- they got the idea from seeing cement trucks in Japan, which always had a bucket hanging off the rear of the truck. The cement trucks used the bucket as a "catch can" of sorts, so that excess cement from the truck wouldn't spill onto the pavement. Inspired by this, the bosozoku trend setters attached small buckets to their rear tow hooks to show how low their bucket could hang- if your car was so low that the bucket could scrape on things as you were driving , they thought it was cool as hell."
  22. I appreciate the input guys, but the GTO oil pan will not work in this case. If you'll note in Post #2 and in the last pic of post #12, only a rear sump pan will clear without raising the engine several inches. The truck oil pan comes close to being perfect, but the rear sump is too deep and objects in the road would hit it if I were to use it as shown in the last pic of post #12. Sorry I haven't posted much at all. I've been unemployed and my C6 LS2 exhaust manifolds have been on back order since before I lost my job. I did receive an email though that my manifolds have been shipped finally though, so that ought to give me some new pics to post soon!
  23. I've definitely been keeping tabs on your build and noted your oil pan measurements! My build is on hold for a while right now. 1) My exhaust manifolds have been on back order for 3 weeks now. and 2) I lost my job Thursday! Yay recession! haha. So, right now I'm job hunting. Let's hope the project doesn't have to go!
