I'm looking to put a 318 in my 280z. What transmission are you using? manual or automatic?

I recently bought a 1975 280z. The floor and frame is completely rooted out from the fire wall to the front mounts on the rear end. To replace the floor and frame should I brace the body up with 3/4" x 3/4" square stalk before removing the rest of the flooring/frame? Any advice or how to pictures, would be appreciated.
