  1. One of the body shop workers that painted my Datsun loved those things. He has two or three of them. He told me one odd thing about them was you couldn't lift engine out of the car without messing some things up, it had to be taken out through the bottom. He also said they were probably rusting when they came off the boat. Neat little cars though. The back looks like a mini 'Vette.

  2. Tony D - you know' date=' I should have asked you this directly a long time ago, you would probably know the answer to this...

On my setup, '72 240 with a turbo motor, stock '82 EFI, running an MSD 6A ignition box, I was never able to figure out how to hook up the stock tach. I was under the impression from various things I'd read that it was not possible to get it to work in this setup... true or false? How would I get it working?[/quote']

I was under the impression that MSD made a tach adaptor that was required to get the stock Datsun tach to work with it. It's PN 8910 I believe.

  3. The higher compression ratio means you won't be able to run much boost until you intercool it. You need to factor in other costs like a new fuel pump, the electronics, etc. I paid $1700 for a heavily modified turbo engine with upgrades turbo, intercooler with piping, FPR, and transmission. I still need to put another $1200-1500 into it because I'm going SDS or megasquirt for fuel, MSD 6BTM for ignition, I need a better fuel pump, different steering system, and other various parts. I'm expecting high 12's to low 13's out of my setup at ~16 PSI. This is an expensive little project, but I'm doing it right the first time.

  4. hey quick question what intake manifold is that?

Is that a stock intake manifold without an egr? what year is that?

It's a semi-custom piece. The casting is W-42 and I believe it came from an '81. The webbing has been plasma cut out and the EGR has been cut off and welded. All the emissions devices have been removed and it has a 240SX TB. The fuel rail is JSK.

  5. Not sure about the crossmember but, my power steering feels like crud without the pump hooked up. :icon11:

hmm...looks like I'm definately in the market for the manual swap. I was just wondering because the guy I bought the turbo motor from had all three steering systems in his '81. He started out with the ball, went to the power rack unassisted, and when I saw his car he had the real manual rack. He said the power one felt the best of all three but he's not moviated enough to swap back.

  6. I have '80 280ZX GL that came with power steering gear. The power steering lines gave out on me so I'm running it unassisted. It takes much effort to use at low speeds and has a lot of play. I'm doing a turbo swap and the steeing gear need to go because it's blocking my intercooler piping. I want a manual steering rack that came on the base model ZX's, but that requires a different crossmember which I cannot find. I was told the power racks on the 81-83's feel really nice unassited. Would I also need a different crossmember if I were to swap in that rack? If anybody has a manual rack assembly for sale with the crossmember, tie rods, etc., please contact me.

    Thanks

  7. The color is Chrysler Industrail Red. It turned out to be more of an orangish color than I expected. It's okay because my car is orange anyway. I still have much work to do with polishing the metal parts on the engine. The crank pulley is going to be swapped out for a different one, so I didn't touch that ugly thing. I mocked up the manifolds just to see how they would look. I'll post some before pictures when I get a chance if anyone wants to see them. Any suggestions that would look nice?

  9. Have I got a deal for you... I know where there is an EXCELLENT deal on a 340+wheel HP 95 Camaro for a steal and the price of a one way ticket to Richmond Internation Airport in Virginia.

Contact Jamie T. here off line... He has an awesome t-top 95 6speed camaro with a set of ported heads' date=' cam, headers, pumpin' system and it is CLEAN... Cheap for the money!

Otherwise I'm becoming a HUGE fan of BMWs... I'm falling for my wife's 328i!

    Mike[/quote']

E36's are great but the parts are so expensive.

    I would avoid the RX-7's and 94-98 Mustang GT's.

    Good luck.

  10. Borrow a MC helmet until the end of (Or at least MID) Season this year. The new SA 2005 rated helmets are coming out this year. Also' date=' IF you are driving a car with airbags that can't be turned off, then get an open faced helmet...

I'd buy a GForce and save the money... decent price and good quality.

    Mike[/quote']

My bimmer guys are telling Snell '05's come out in Oct. If I go ahead and get a '00, it should be good until 2010 when the SA2010 come around, but if I wait until '05, it'll be good until 2015. I think I'm going to get a full faced because I'm going to be using it in the Datsun which has no airbags and I can pull the airbag fuse on the M3. Decisions decisions.

    Thanks for the help.

  11. use a regular motorcycle helmet and make sure it has lots of vents and drive with windows down (which is required anyways).

AGV/HJC helmets are cheap and good quality for such use (i prefer higher brands for actual riding)

Can I run most tracks with a M rated helmet?

  12. I'm going to invest in a racing helmet very soon. I want a full faced one because I'm doing mostly track days with a little bit of auto-X and drag. I've looked at a G-Force Pro Force 1 that is a SA2000. It seems to fit my needs. Is there anything else I should look at before purchasing this one? Does anybody have experience with this helmet?

    Thanks

  13. I took it to the guy who painted my car yesterday. He said he'll paint the new panels and install them for $135. I'm off to Victoria British tomorrow to pick up my hood (turbo style since I'm doing the coversion soon), fender, headlight bucket, an aftermarket air dam.

For hittin' a deer... a front fender' date=' hood and a bumper isn't that bad! Seriously.

EDIT: Sorry, slightly off topic, but do you have any pictures of your M3 and Delta 88? I would love to see pictures! Both are something of my past. Thanks for the kind words.

    !M![/quote']

Here's a picture of the M3. I spent the whole day yesterday detailing it and went out for some pictures today. It really got my mind off of the ZX which was sitting in tatters next to me.

    9037M3.JPG

I don't have any pictures of the Delta on my computer right now. I'll take some tomorrow when I change the oil on it.

I've been in 2 deer incidents in Z's. In both the animal went OVER the roof of the car. And the second time, I wasn't even going all that fast. (First time my Mom was running a bit late.) Thank goodness we just had to replace hoods on both occasions. But the second one did bend the rad support a bit.

I think it has to do with the Datsun's shape. Mine went almost as high as the roof. It almost went through the windshield.
