  1. Ok, I started posting originally in the v6 forum because of the engine I am swapping in. they reccomended moving to over here or the s30 area just so it would be more out there. Right now all I have is a 71 240Z, a 1996 VQ30DET from a y33 cima, a Z33 6 speed, and some other parts. This project wont get started until around june july as I am overseas. Here is the motor: and here is my ideas for the body: here the shaded areas are where I want to have vents to either let air out or get it to the brakes. the wing is just a guess on placement as I have an APR GTC300 spoiler for it. you can see here about how much I want to widen it, and where I want to put vents as well. and the front and back view, I have a set of r34 tails that will get swapped in, you can also see where I want to put a vent next to the tail light to let air out of the rear fender. I will update this alot more once I get to the US, but until then I am here to learn and get ideas.
  2. Ok, you guys get to enjoy my horrible drawings. Its my ideas for how I would like the body to look when it is fully done. I know there are issues I will need to look at and decide how I really want to do it when I have te car in my hands but here goes: Ok, side view, on the door it is supposed to be where the widened fenders blend in and the shaded spot is going to be a brake duct. in front of the door will be a gap to vent air from the fender area, the wing is an approximation of the APR GTC300 mounted 12in off the deck. top view, you can see the radiator vent in the hood, th louvers above the wheels, and get an idea for how I want it widened as well as a better idea for the front vent. and the front/back view. I have r34 skyline tails to mold in, under the bumper I want to do a diffuser type set up, I know it would work better if the car was lower but it will be street driven. in the gap with the 2 circles the black one is the exhaust and the other is my idea to use a fog light for a backup light. the front you can see the start of an idea for the front airdam, the blocked upper hole for the radiator as I want to duct i in, the radiator exhaust and about how much wider I want to sit. Let me know what you guys think
  3. I think it is more of the oil drain and the seals. If you notice they are always mounted with the oil drain facing down.
  4. Engine made it to my friends house today. I'll see if he can get me some pics and itll still be atleast june till I can do any work.
  5. you can get alot of power out of them. but there are tricks to it. a 98+ ranger crank with the right rods and pistons nets you a .2l gain. with a mustang talldeck block you can get them to 2.9. a volvo DOHC head can be fitted. but really anything over 300hp is ging to cost as much or more than sticking with the l28 or getting a vg or a vq. I think he is more after being different and still able to get decent power for not too much.
  6. be sure to read up on the engine. there is alot of info out there. if you need it once I get back to the US I have one of the 87-88 hydraulic t5 bellhousings sitting around. I wont be back in the US till june at the soonest though.
  7. yeah, the lima is all cast iron, very strong but heavy
  8. That is why I am starting with the VQ30DET, factory turbo. add biger injectors, nistune, and turn up the boost and its easily over 300. you can also pick up maxima headers and adapt them for around $200. After having built a 2.3 turbo in a ranger, The newer VQ seemed a better choice. but check out the ranger forums for info as well as places like turboford.org. go into it fully educated as the info is easy to find.
  9. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2052265/2 I stand corrected stock for stock the 4.6 is 25lbs more. My memory failed me, but here is the correction. And before anyone brings up the 2.5 vs. 2.3 its a different crank, rods and pistons, same block and head. IMO, for the cost of the swap and performance parts you could go with a more modern engine. I picked up a vq30det and a 350z 6speed for it for $1200 total, 280hp stock tune. even a maxima vq30de has good potential and availability with a readily available 6 speed for it.
  10. It shouldnt be too difficult, it is a stout motor and essliner makes alot of good parts. wiring would be easy as the diagrams and pin outs are easy to find. transmission choices are the m5odr1 from a ranger or a t5 with th 87-88 turbocoupe bellhousing. it is a heavy 4cyl though. a 4.6mod motor weighs about 100lb less. the 87-88 manifold also flows the best. it is fairly tall though as well. by the time you hit the 300hp mark though itll have a decent investment in it. check out the forced inductiond forums at rangerpowersports.com/forum and therangerstation.com/forums.
  11. For texas people Jhot imports is easy to deal with and has very complete setups. I ordered a VQ30DET from jhot and they sent me pictures, year, model and milage before I even fully decided to get it.
  12. Its gonna be a while till any work gets done to it. Im over in iraq right now and just planning the build. so far the build sheet will look nice. I cant decide on a few things yet, like roll cage, prefab or custom. brakes, suspension, wheels/tires. but some of that can wait till I get back and actually start the build, but I am open to suggestions. the engine is a 1996 VQ30DET from a y33 cima turbonetics t04e 50trim turbo 350z 6speed with a shorth throw lightened flywheel greddy turbo timer HDi boost controller nistune HKS SSQV v3 synchronic 50mm wastegate 5 lug conversion parts APR GTC300 spoiler and things I still need to order, FMIC 750cc injectors(either side feed or make custom rails and run top feed, not sure) bosch 044 fuel pump 1/2in feed 3/8 return line sump for the tank brakes? shocks? coilovers? airdamn? seats? guages? roll cage?
  13. Ok, engine made it to the US today and will be sitting at my buddys house in about a week. Nistune will be ordered after the new year when they come back from vacation. for now it looks like the stock tank will get sumped to save money.
  14. Ok, thanks. thats just the info I am trying to find. I want to slowly order all the parts and take my time once I get back to the states to make sure it is put together right.
  15. Ok, I am deployed right now, but when I get home I have a 240Z waiting and a VQ30det. now for the engine I am going to get nistune, I already have a BOV, boost controller, turbo timer, 50mm synchronic wastegate, turbonetics t04e 50trim, and a exedy clutch/flywheel, and a 350Z 6speed. now, my question is on the fuel system. My goal is 450 or so at the wheels. I know the bosch 044 pump will support this and I will need 750cc or so injectors, but what is a good line size? does anyone know i the factory fuel rails are up to it or if they need to get upgraded? if they are good enough what fittings are needed to hook -8AN fittings to the fuel rail? what is a good size for the return line? I plan on running a summit 16gal sumped fuel cell where the spare tire is supposed to go. I want to run hard lines from thepump to the firewall. I want this to support my goal safely and be able to possibly upgrade later as I get more chance to goto track days. Thanks everyone.
