Hello right now I am to the point on my 260z where I really want to start planning on how I am going to build it. I "should" be done with the rust by the end of the upcoming summer and want to start keeping an eye out for parts, but to know what parts to look for I need to figure out how to build it. Trouble is me and my dad (neglected technical skills to long, good bonding and learning experience with my dad since he is really good with cars)have only worked with american muscle before and don't really know what would pull the best performance out of the z.
What I want minimum is about 06 mustang gt performance specs (I happen to drive one and don't want the z to lag behind it) and would enjoy having it compare with the newer iterations of the pony cars. Problem is I would prefer not to do an engine swap since i like the idea of the l26 staying in it. Its kinda unique since all the z's in my area are 350 cars. I also have a l28e laying around that i wouldn't mind cannibalizing. So any suggestions on how to pull the most out of the l26 would be love, or at least some enhancements that i can start reading on. I'd also like to keep to carburetors if possible. I figure weight is the biggest performance booster and plan on going with fiberglass fenders, bumpers and hood. I also have torn the entirety of the interior out and plan on only keeping the dash cover stock, everything else will be light weight custom made stuff. My problem mainly is the lack of knowledge on how to get more out of the motor.
Also is it true that souped up l26 sound like old school ferrari like some people I know have been saying?
