  1. Hello right now I am to the point on my 260z where I really want to start planning on how I am going to build it. I "should" be done with the rust by the end of the upcoming summer and want to start keeping an eye out for parts, but to know what parts to look for I need to figure out how to build it. Trouble is me and my dad (neglected technical skills to long, good bonding and learning experience with my dad since he is really good with cars)have only worked with american muscle before and don't really know what would pull the best performance out of the z. What I want minimum is about 06 mustang gt performance specs (I happen to drive one and don't want the z to lag behind it) and would enjoy having it compare with the newer iterations of the pony cars. Problem is I would prefer not to do an engine swap since i like the idea of the l26 staying in it. Its kinda unique since all the z's in my area are 350 cars. I also have a l28e laying around that i wouldn't mind cannibalizing. So any suggestions on how to pull the most out of the l26 would be love, or at least some enhancements that i can start reading on. I'd also like to keep to carburetors if possible. I figure weight is the biggest performance booster and plan on going with fiberglass fenders, bumpers and hood. I also have torn the entirety of the interior out and plan on only keeping the dash cover stock, everything else will be light weight custom made stuff. My problem mainly is the lack of knowledge on how to get more out of the motor. Also is it true that souped up l26 sound like old school ferrari like some people I know have been saying?
  2. Sorry didnt realize that was bad enough to upset anyone, so commonplace for me. But yeah I've checked those threads out and they are informative, just wondering now what people think that have done the turbo methods for the l26.Tons of that on the 28 but very few on the 6.
  3. So I have decided to go with my great condition l26 over the bad condition l28e I have. I am also considering a turbo for the l26 but really want to hear from people who did it and see what they say. A few question for those who have done this What method did you use? Did you blow through, draw through, or just convert to E.F.I.? What kind of gains did you get from it? What are your thoughts on the project overall? Been doing some research and I hear nonstop about the difficulties of a carbed turbo setup, wondering the most about peoples thoughts on that. edit Sorry for the little thumbs down thing but I kept getting a "lengthen your post by 1 character" thing and when it worked it magically put that on
  4. After doing some reading turboing it doesnt seem to be to bad of a job to do. Now the real question is efi or put on a pair of weber's, well off to do more reading...
  5. Yeah ours has a few upgrades to and is about 330-320. Ill search around here on what it takes to turbo an l26
  6. I'd be willing to change the heads and such but something along the lines/cost of stroking the motor would be to much. Also to remember its an l26, I have an l28e but the l26 runs so well im hesitant to swap it if I can get my target speed out of it (being as good as a slightly beefed up 06 gt mustang, so low 13's)
  7. Hello all Im rather a newb to the datsun scene and had a question for you guys. I recently got the l26 in my z running and it amazed me how good of condition it is in, leaving me to wonder if it would be more prudent to fix this up over the l28e I recently got ahold of. The big question is what can I expect out of the motor and will it be able to make my goal of matching the 06 mustang gt my family owns, for any kind of reasonable amount.
  8. The 260 has a working engine/tranny in it, and it is the 4speed. Looking at building the l28e right now since its in decent condition and I picked it up for next to nothing.
  9. That sounds exactly what I need, thanks a ton Daeron. The z32 does seem bulletproof but for my horsepower goals + the work it takes doesnt seem to coencide. So from reading other threads (kinda wanting to double check) to do the turbo Ill need the turbo with the exhaust parts, megasquirt and better injectors/custom fuel rail. You need a different cam in the l28e to? Dont imagine ill need to do much else since it has a 8:8:1 ratio and from what im reading about turbos thats pretty good.
  10. Looks like my idea for a t-5 is out. Sucks though since the z32 swap looks like a lot of pain.
  11. By moderate do you mean a turbo/megasquirt or do you mean bored out?
  12. Yeah im trying to figure up which is going to be the most cost effective. This l28e needs new injectors and a tranny. If its cheaper to go for a chevy 350 or a 1jz compared to getting the l28 ready and befed up, might have to go for it and get rid of the l28e.
  13. Did a search on the borg warner (my biggest question) and didnt see much about the less buggy versions the hot rod guys use. I want to base it off a mustang since my family has an 06 gt (best year) and im spoiled by it. It would be hard to have an awesome car like the datsun and have it feel slow after driving the stang. Offhand i would say mid 13's to 14's quarter.
  14. Hello I will start by saying that, though I have been around muscle cars most of my life I have never touched an import or messed with anything electronic, so this is a brand new adventure for me. That aside last fall I picked up a 260z and have been looking for an engine to swap into it. Just this last weekend a good buddy of mine came across a l28e and I picked it up for 80 bucks. Now I have this motor and have no clue where to start on it since its an e. My biggest concern right now is finding a tranny, I read that the borg-warner t5 went into the l28et and am thinking of putting that in. My question though is what would be needed for a more modern redux of the t-5 (like the ones the hotrod guys drool over not the buggy earlier models) work in the z? I imagine bellhousing but what else would be needed? Also any general advice on things to avoid or keep an eye out for this motor would be appreciated. Goal wise im shooting for something that is comparable to the 05-08 mustang gt's.
