  3. When everyone says the phrase "bumped compression to 8:1" on a turbo motor, what are they doing to get the extra .5 cr over stock? Milled head? Are some people just switching to the flattop pistons?

  7. No idea....from what I have learned there are three options so far: - Have stock T5 driveshaft shortened by a driveline shop(~$150) - Have custom driveshaft made (~$300) - Find automatic ZX driveshaft
  8. Yes a writeup would be good, something interesting I found so far is that you can use a 280zx automatic driveshaft with the zxt r200 and a t5 and not need to cut it. Also, there are no premade 3" downpipes, they will have to be done custom. MSA does sell a 2.5" DP however.
  9. I just ran a compression test on the motor(the one I won't be using) last sunday actually and the cylinders all came up as follows: 1# 130 2# 125 3# 130 4# 135 5# 130 6# 135

  12. There are people with listed parts, or patchy information on this or that, and some opinions. Other areas are gray areas, like which gas tank solutions there are, or driveshaft fabrication and ujoint mounts.
  13. When would you use high impedance? What would be preferred for when running megasquirt?
  14. I will be selling the whole donor chassis with whatever I don't use from it, not going to part it out....but it will be pretty cheap.

  16. I know very well how to search, just thought some people wouldn't mind providing direct input. This forum is simply cluttered with "how do i" or "what about this" posts with no answers or posts after...getting to the actual answer post is nearly impossible.
  17. Bringing this back from the dead.... this is making me have second thoughts about using the BW T5 I have, and just throwing in a nissan 5 speed for simplicity's sake. The question I have is what is the difference in 5 speeds from the 280z's to the 280zx's and which one is better to use? Will the r200 out of my 83 280zxt fit fine with my 73 driveshaft and a later nissan 5 speed?
  18. After searching and reading for almost 2 months now, I am getting parts together for the swap. I have a donor 83zxt complete that I drove home for $200 that I plan to swap into my 73z. I am going to basically type up my plan as it stands to hopefully get input and feedback...I found some questions hard to find a clear answer for even after searching all day. Will be using the R200, driveshaft(which needs to be shortened apparently), BW T5, and actually a different rebuilt l28et other than what the car came with. COULD use input on mounts/modifications to make tranny fit. I am still uncertain what to do about the turbo, the donor car has 200K miles on it and I'm not sure if the turbo has been rebuilt....Who would be the best place to get a t3/4 hybrid from? I am sourcing an N42 non-egr intake/60mm tb(which one to get?) and will be using a pallnet 11mm fuel rail with supra 440's. STILL unsure what to do about a fuel tank??? I will be running megasquirt, don't want to even bother with stock efi...I need advice on which MS components to get though? I will be running a 2.5" or 3" DP going through a full 3" custom mandrel bent with turbo style muffler. Does anyone make prefabricated downpipes? I need advice for an intercooler kit/plumbing and where to buy. Random MISC stuff: what else should be moved over...oil cooler? starter is dying in turbo donor...can I use 240z starter? Use radiator out of turbo or aftermarket? Thanks in advance for any help I may get!
  19. Interesting....I found someone on youtube who says that he used an automatic 280zx driveshaft and it bolted straight up to his T5 in his 260z?? Can anyone confirm this works?
  20. OK, so the flange is fine since I have the whole turbo driveline....but the shaft STILL needs to be shortened.
  21. I don't quite understand that...why would you need to modify the rear flange if swapping in the R200 with it as well? Isn't that driveshaft modification referring to if you are using the original R180 with it? BTW, thanks for the responses...I have been searching and reading for over a month and never seem to get actual definate answers/solutions to my questions.(yes I know how to use search and am familiar with forums).

  23. One more slightly off topic question.... When converting to l28et, if you use the R200, driveshaft and BW t5 the driveshaft does not need to be shortened correct?
