  1. Ooh this is some better detective work than I could have done. I'll pull it out this weekend if I can and report back. Throw-out bearing is rough and was looking to replace that anyway. Any particular kit to replace it with? I've been doing OEM replacement (whether through the various online Z shops or O'Reillys), for most stuff, but have splurged here and there and wouldn't mind doing so for a clutch. Thanks, all!
  2. I've never driven my Z Car, so I don't have any point of reference to how well the clutch might or might not work. I have the transmission off and while it's off was debating what if anything to do with the clutch/flywheel. Some photos of the pressure plate are below, but I'm not sure if there's anything you can tell from that. Searching hasn't been super helpful as it just returns results on replacing the clutch. If I have to take off the pressure plate, thinking I might as well just replace the clutch itself... While I have the transmission off, I'm tempted to just do it, but if it's in good shape, don't want to mess with it. Maybe I've just talked myself into doing it, but any other thoughts are helpful...   3. Super helpful everyone. Thank you! Here's where I ended up putting mine. For the Painless kit, the included wires from the fuse box to the ignition, dashboard, and steering column controls were short enough that I would have had to extend most of them if I installed on the passenger side. This will let me to trim everything down and not need to extend any. Had to pull the transmission, which got all my temporary wiring out of whack, but hoping to have it all dialed back in soon!
  4. Where have others who have done a Painless harness located their fuse boxes? A few locations I'm considering (generally in order of preference): On the bulkhead generally behind the cigarette lighter. On the outer wall of the drivers side. In the location of the old fuse box (I don't have a center console, so am a little concerned about placing this in a way that it won't have to be redone). On the bulkhead behind the glovebox On the outer wall of the passengers side (though, I think this may be too far from the steering column to work). Any recommendations? Any other threads with this (I've searched and couldn't find any). Photos would be awesome if you have them. Thanks!
  5. Thanks, other threads is where I got the information on the 280ZX and Maxima options. Those threads were primarily with the OEM wiring harness (and have work arounds to delete the external regulator) and I guess the difference in my question here is what would work well with Painless vs. OEM.
  6. Working on a rewire for my '72 240Z (moving to a Painless Universal 10101). My voltage regulator is crapped out (alternator tests fine though) and I'd like to simplify the harness a bit, so I'm looking for something that's internally regulated. I'm not planning to run anything outside of stock aside from a modern radio and LED headlights (will be using relays on the headlights), so a 60 amp option from a 280ZX would probably be fine. I'm also looking at the 90 amp option from the 1985 Maxima, but looks like that would require swapping the pulley? Does the 280ZX model seem like a good fit? Any other recommendations for something I can bolt on and run using a 12V power and an exciter wire?
  7. It’s not coming from the carb cooling bypass hose. Could be coming from the intake or exhaust manifold though? I don’t have the intake/exhaust torqued down, but would coolant flow through there? Shouldn’t it just be air and fuel? head gasket maybe? That didn’t appear to be wet, but maybe I missed it. any ideas would help. Thanks!
